SPECIAL BULLETIN
Sixth Annual PARENT-TEACHER WEEK in Lincoln, Nebraska
MEMBERSHIP ENROLLMENT WEEK
October 1st to 7th, 1934
It is the sincere wish of the Parent-Teacher Association that everyone interested in child welfare support thi.s splendid movement. Here is yo-ar opportunity to help, not only your child, but all children in your community. No finer service can be rendered than that of promoting the interests of childhood.
"EVERY PARENT AND TEACHER A MEMBER"
The objects of the local Parent-Teacher Association are identical to the objects of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers as expressed in the National By-laws, Article II.
FIRST, To promote child welfare in home, sahool, church, and community; to raise the standards of home life; to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children.
SECOND, To bring into closer relation the home and school, that parents and teachers may co-operate intelligently in the training of the child, and to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for every child the highest advantages in physical, mental, moral and spiritual education.
OUR NATIONAL PRESIDENT SPEAKS
''The crisis in education, fearsome though it has been, has had the effect of stimulating tremendously the work of Parent-Te3.;cher Associations. It has also provided a sense of security to the teaching profession in the realization of this lay interest. In the union of these two groups there is vast strength. The public schools of the United States will be saved, but it will not be done by the parents nor by the teachers. It will be done by the absolute union of these groups, and by a definite fusion of their efforts."
-Mrs. B.F. Langworthy, President, National Congress of Parents and Teachers.
OUR MEMBERSHIP
"Friends, we hope that the biggest year from the standpoint of achievement lies ahead of us for Parent-Teacher work. Our second Annual Nebraska Parent-Teacher Week,October 1 to 7, will soon be here. For that week, let us plan a program to educate the public as to the value and need of a Parent-Teacher Association in every community. Let us work for an increased enrollment in every Congress Unit. Is it too much to say that every association should have in membership every parent, and that e'very school should have a P. T. A.? Our mission of working for the welfare of every child is a sacred one, for his Life is eternal. May your fine services be rewarded with much success.''
- Mrs. Paul Bradley, President, Nebraska Congress.
CONSUMERS OF EDUCATION
"There are many agencies which in some degree are rendering helpful service to the cause of education, but there are none so uniquely dedicated to the interests of child welfare as are the ParentTeacher Associations throughout America. As a rule P. T. A. members are actual consumers to the work of the schools, because their own children are in attendance upon them. The P. T. A. is therefore in a most favorable position to render valuable and . sympathetic assistance to the teachers who are charged with the responsibility of maintaining opportunities and standards whereby every child of the community may have his chance.
Parent-Teacher Week comes from October 1 to 7 inclusive. The Lincoln Public Schools take great pleasure in cooperating with the Lincoln Council of Parents and Teachers in the observance of this week. Teachers and pupils extend a most cordial invitation to parents and friends to visit the schools frequently during the year, and especially during Parent-Teacher Week.''
- M. C. Lefler, Supt., Lincoln School .
