Over the 7 5 years of Northeast there have been many changes in academics, from the number of teachers that are on staff to the number of classes offered. Including all elective and special education teachers, there are an even 10 0 teachers on • staff here at Northeast. All of these teachers work together to educate the 15 4 2 students that attend Lincoln Northeast. Included in these 1542 are students that leave to attend The Career Academy, the science focus program, or the zoo school, along with arts and humanities: 5 2 students leave during the day to go to TCA, 9 leave for zoo school, and 2 leave for arts and humanities. Every student gets to choose classes that they want to take in order to graduate. They choose these based on their interests and also based on the requirements to graduate at the end of their senior year. St~dents can choose from 2 7 6 classes they have the chance of taking at some point in their high school career. Each class is different for every student and every student will do what they need to get through the class and have a good time taking the course with their teacher.

There are17 business classes offered here at Northeast. Each student is required to take two different classes from the business department. Every junior is required to have Take Charge, a career readiness class along with one other business class. All of these different classes help to prepare students for what will come after high school. They teach how to keep track of spending along with how to save for the big expenses each of them will be faced with. All of the different teachers are very passionate about what they teach and are excited to help students learn. Each of them = will take the time out of their day to make sure their students are successful and understand the material. Every single business class is a great way to learn about the future, and the skills learned will be able to help these students their whole life.

Northeast offers its students a variety of English options with l 5 teachers and 38 different classes. These classes not only provide students ·with life skills, they provide students with a look into other worlds and lifestyles. Senior Kayla Van Ness explains, "One of my favorite readings is Hamlet in English l OD. I love it because it provides me with a look into a different time period." Through these classes, students are able to place themselves in the lives of others, instead of just being told about it. -

Lessons

In Literatur

In all these classes students read different kinds of texts from short stories to textbooks and even each other's essays. The teachers of Northeast make sure to introduce their students to readings they normally would not choose for themselves. For example, Senior Victor Moreno says one of his favorite

units has been poetry. Moreno says, "Poetry is not a type of reading I would normally choose, but after

ebeing introduced to it sophomore year I found it is something I enjoy." Like Victor, students are always encouraged to be open to trying new things when it co.mes to

The family and consumer science department offers several different classes, from culinary classes to relationship classes and child development classes. The cooking classrooms may be tucked away in their own little corner of the school, but when ~the students cook the whole building can smell whatever it is they may be cooking. Every hallway and staircase is filled with the smell and everyone in the building knows that the FCS classes are cooking. Skills that are taught in these classes tan be used during the students' whole life. After they graduate and start living on their own students can use cooking skills and relationship advice during their everyday lives. Being able to use these skills is thanks to the teachers of the Family and Consumer Science department. These teachers are passionate about what they teach and are eager to have new students to build relationships with

On Monday October 5, 2015, Northeast students had a fire drill during their 3rd period class to say goodbye to Mrs. Holliday. The whole school, students and staff, were asked to wear as much pink as possible for breast cancer awareness and in honor of Mrs. Holliday's fight with cancer. As she drove by she was very happy to see everyone and knew that she was going to be greatly missed during the school year by both students and staff. She was happy to wave, talk, and hug anyone that came up to the car window. Unfortunately, Mrs. Holliday lost her battle on October 19. For 22 years, Mrs. Holliday was a very active teacher in the Northeast community and was always willing to help students with anything. Any former student will say she was an inspiration to all and everyone that knew her will greatly miss her. She was always walking around with a smile on her face and happy to talk with anyone that wanted to.

When thinking about industrial technology many people will think of mainly wood working classes . However there are different kinds of industrial tech classes here at Northeast. For example we offer automotive technology for those interested in mechanics, along with a variety of different wood working courses These classes are perfect for students who enjoy hands on and interactive learning experiences. Projects in wood working classes can range from CD holders to wall shelves and different sizes of boxes. All of the projects that students complete are graded and taken home. Even though each person works at their own pace, every~me completes the projects and are graded on their quality of work and how well they know the different skills.

In the automotive classes students learn about the different parts of cars and their engines. Most days the students get to work underneath the hood of the car instead of just learning material out of a book. If hands on learning is what students really enjoy, then industrial technology is right for them.

Some students really enjoy math classes while other students do not like it as much as their other classes. Whatever the case may be, the math teachers here at Northeast always find a way to make it fun and interesting for everyone. The teachers encourage and motivate all students to try their hardest on every single homework assignment and test. Most teachers are willing to stay after class and help explain different things to all of their students.

So even though math might not be everyone's favorite subject, all of the teachers try their best to make sure every student enjoys the time in their class.

Many students will say that one of the best gym classes to take is team sports. Lots of students take this class and most all of them have loved it. "Team sports is a very fun class, I got to learn how to play new sports that I didn't know how to play very well," sophomore Kevin Le said when asked how he enjoyed team sports. Team sports teaches students how to play team based sports. It might not sound very appealing, but it is actually pretty exciting to play against different people. Even if students know how to play the sport, it's still fun to play against other classmates and sometimes different classes Athletic or not, students end up getting involved because they get distracted in the fun, and class tends to fly by quickly. Most of the time on Fridays, the gym classes will combine and play games against each other or sometimes be on the same team as different classes. Sometimes they'll play One Pitch, sometimes they'll play Cone Ball, and sometimes they have free time. There are also many different gym classes students can take besides team sports.

Through memorizing the star cycle with Mrs. Martin, mastering the parts and processes of life with Mr. Connot, and barely escaping chemistry with Mr. Schlautman, it is safe to say Northeast has its' fair share of variety in the science department. With eleven teachers and twenty-five classes, students have no trouble choosing a class of their interest. Mrs. Martin, Ms. Clifford, and Ms. Odson help freshmen adjust to high school by studying multiple evolution theories and rock formations. For those interested in the study of life, Biology teachers Mr. Snoozy, Mr Connot, and Mrs. Kramer-Hansen take their classes through the ins and outs of cells Junior year can mentally and emotionally destroy students as Chemistry teachers Mr. Schlautman, and Mr. Skoda take students on a journey filled with significant figures, the periodic table, and element reactions. "Mr Schlautman definitely keeps us on our toes as far as the concepts go. He likes to give us a challenge," comments Junior Peyton Reynolds Then comes senior year where Mr . Hansen moves through the aspects of motion. On top of the core science classes, additional courses are offered. These courses tend to specialize in one or two specific concepts within the medical field. "I like taking Anatomy because I have a true interest in learning about how the body works. Mr. Stading also makes the class enjoyable because he knows how to teach the subject very well," comments Senior Jocie Towers Lincoln Northeast provides science classes any student can enjoy

Mrs. Schlake's Spanish class takes notes for an upcoming test.

r World

Most all students in a world language class would agree that their language class is much different from any other class they take . .Students go into these classes knowing almost nothing, while in their other classes they have a little bit of background information. All students have the opportunity to choose = from 3 different languages, French, Spanish, and German, and gain knowledge in this language for al ( of their high school years. Language teachers think of fun ways to teach their students about different cultures and a brand new language. These games range from bingo with no English words, to games that involve running around the classroom. Most classes play something like Pictionary that always gets the whole class involved and learning new words By the end of the school year each student knows a little bit more about another language and culture that they can take with them for future years of learning or with them for the rest of their life.

with the most school spirit at sporting events. Our sports might not be the best in the state, but at all the events there are a group of students cheering on the team. This year all the different sporting teams had great seasons, and for some even making history . The Star Strutters won state again this year in the high kick division and the boys swim team won conference for the first time ever and also were city champions for the first time in school history. The varsity boys basketball team made it to the first round of state again this year and were district champions. A lot of this success is due to the fact that the cheer leaders are cheering at multiple events and also the Rocket Rowdies. The Rowdies try to make themes for the games and bring as many students as well as parents to the games to support the rockets . At all the events with a student section , there is constant cheering during the game and great sportsmanship from everyone in the crowd , as well as the players. This year with all of the exceptional teams and supporting student section here at Northeast it is safe to say that the Rockets have a great athletic program .

Spirit Week

Spirit week is the week where every stt.Jdent in Lincoln Northeast High School can dress like a complete weirdo and not get judged for it, but also, following the dress code, of course. This year, our spirit week somehow landed on the same week as our fall break, so we only had 3 days of spirit week-sadly enough for students that enjoy Spirit Week. The first day of spirit week was Movie Monday where students dressed as their favorite movie character or anything movie related. Twin Tuesday was when students became twins with another person they chose. Rocket Pride/ Black&White Wednesday is when students rock out in rocket gear or anything black & white. There are students who will go all out to show their Rocket pride, while others are more subdued. Either way, we all root for the black and white in our hearts.

Through their hard work, the varsity volleyball team was able to improve their overall record from last year. They more than doubled their wins from five in 2014 to twelve in 2015. One of those wins was against Grand Island. Senior Megan Sattler said this win meant a lot to the team . This season they played Grand Island in Grand Island and lost after four sets. However, a few weeks later they came back and beat Grand Island in the HAC tournament. All twelve members of the team put in a lot of hard work to make this happen. The girls also worked to improve the team atmosphere. Senior student manager Sydnee Hunt said the team atmosphere is "very fun" and the best part is the "team bonding." After thirty-six games and countless hours of practice it is hard to imagine the team not bonding. With this bonding, comes many memories. These memories were made on and off the court.Senior Addison Sellon said her favorite memory is going to camp. "The team stayed at Megan's aunt's house and while there we chased pigs . I was able to catch one. It was all very fun," Addison said. Although their record was not what they wanted it to be, the memories they made make up for that.

Volleyball

All the players on junior varsity through freshman teams always work hard and do their best to make it to the top and win their games. They each put in lots effort and an abundance of dedication for this sport, both during practice and during games. Working as a team is the most important thfng that they can do at their games and at practice They do drills that help them trust their teammates and that continue to help them during games . All the players show the coaches they are physically and mentally ready to work with other girls and that they are willing to work with everyone else on the team . This teamwork paid off for the freshman team, who won the city championship at the end of their season. It shows that hard work at practice really does pay off during the games .

The jv and reserve teams put in a lot of hard work this season. The teams were composed of girls with all different skill levels, from very experienced to beginners. No matter where they fell, all of the girls worked hard to improve their skills . They constantly pushed each other at every practice and game. Every player earned the spot on the field. Not only did they improve their skills, they also came together to build lasting relationships. Strong relationships and communication skills are vital for a win. During practices not only do the coaches push each individual runner but they push each other as well. Being on a team requires tt1at each individual person work to set and reach new goals, and to also work as a team to accomplish a particular goal. Encouraging others and helping to give them the confidence it takes to do their best is also a must. Before races the boys gave each other pep talks and got each other pumped for the upcoming race Senior Wyatt McLeod, a returning state qualifier for the past three years, helped to push his teammates and help them all improve their times during the season The boys on the JV and varsity cross country teams show great support for each other and help to show a team atmosphere during every race and practice.

The varsity boys tennis team started out with pretty much a whole new team, with only two returning varsity players, junior Riley Kilzer and senior Zach Barnhill, and one additional senior Logan Peterson moving up from JV. These three boys worked hard to help all of the players improve their skills and help to better the team as a whole. The varsity head coach, Coach Wiehn taught the motto, "You bet." This quote brought the team a certain mentality for the season and was a fun inside joke between all of the players, on and off the court. Every challenge started out with, "You bet." When senior, Logan Peterson, was asked how tennis has impacted his life, he responded, "Tennis is the greatest thing to be a part of at Northeast. I learned many new skill sets, like how to not get angry at stuff. We have the most fun out of any sport doing what we love and doing more as a team outside of practice and meets. Tennis is the greatest sport ever." This season has set up a great future outlook for the team next year and many more seasons after that. You bet.

The goal of junior varsity and reserve players is to someday be on varsity. This season, there were only nine boys between both the junior varsity and reserve teams . Since there were only nine, this meant that these players were able to get more playing time on both teams.

All of the boys on both of these teams this year, worked really hard to improve their skills and become better players. They worked hard at practice and gave it their everything during matches. Some of the boys even sought out the help of the current varsity players for insight and pointers to help them.

At the end of the season both coaches and the players were proud of how much each player had grown during the season, and everyone is looking forward to next year, in hopes of making varsity .

With determination, passion, and skill, the Lincoln Northeast Girls Golf program finished an impressive year as Senior Tess Meyer and Junior Trina Barmore both scored under 100 strokes for their personal bests. Golf requires concentration on and off the course and requires the ability to make strategic decisions. The five members of the Varsity team along with the two members of the JV team put in long preparation days, and the hard work paid off in every tournament. Sophomores Sophie Hart and Emma Krause both made personal bests at the District Championships, and junior Constance Cushman scored her personal best at this year's HAC tournament. The team's best average was 508 for Varsity; 287 for Junior Varsity. "This season turned out really well. I am super proud of myself and my improvements over the past four years," stated Meyer.

Say cheese! The basketball girls get together for a large group selfie on the right. The JV girls take a Snapchat on the left. See? They have a little fun, too.

Girls Basketball

Basketball is not an easy game to play. It might seem a simple thing to put a ball through a hoop, but doing it while running at full speed through a pack of girls intent on stopping the ball or you, and it becomes a test of will and skill that only a few can excel at.

Here at LNE, all three girls basketball teams have been extremely impressive this year. They have displayed impressive amounts of skill and teamwork. All girls have shown that by using a foundation of fundamentals and determination, • progress is inevitable.

The girls on each team have put in countless hours of work both on and off the court From coming early, to staying late, to going to the gym individually , these girls have done it all.

These team put in their best effort during games and also during all of their practices. However, it's not all work. The teams managed to have a little fun together, too.

Ju ior Trn Mc fig ts • Bellevu est.

Wrestling allows athletes of all grade levels and experiences to find their strengths. Some wrestlers come to Northeast with many years of club experience. Others join the team with no experience at all. No matter which category one falls into, the coaches take the time to instruct and guide each one. They are also able to look to the veterans on the team . These members offer insight to the new members on everything from new moves to how to handle their first meet. This year's seniors lead the team at meets and through every practice.

The wrestlers are able to find their strengths, both physical and mental , because wrestling is often viewed as one of the most demanding sports physically and mentally Wrestlers have to make sure they are on top of their weight each week in order to wrestle . This requires a lot of mental toughness as wrestling season also happe n ; to be holiday season. Wrestlers are expected to come to every practice ready to work hard and push themselves farther everyday. These things have led to the team motto for this season, "Breakthrough." The wrestlers must break through any doubt tha t they have in themselves to get the win. Senior Kendrick Frazi e • says this motto means a lot to the teams. Whene v ~r they are struggling, they take a moment and think "brea k through."

The first matc h of the season for Northeast wrestling is the black and whiJe dual. A t this dual members of the team wrestle each other for varsity spots. However, winning at this dual does not guarantee a varsity spot the whole season. Wrestling is unique in that JV members are offered the chance to move up to varsity periodically throughout the season. JV members are able to wrestle off with varsity members in hopes of taking the spot. This opportunity is one of the many things that motivates JV wrestlers to work hard. It helps them pus 1 each other and themselves.

Wrestling is also unique because there are only two teams, varsity an< I :: junior varsity. Although some meets are for freshmen only, there is no set freshmen or reserve team. This allows the members of the teams to spend more time working together, instead of being divided. It also creates for a unique mix pf varying skill levels on the JV team. The freshmen are able to learn by working directly with more experienced wrestlers, instead of only working with other freshmen. Members of the JV team are able to constantly improve their skills by working with varsity members. This prepares them for the day when they step onto the varsity mat.

Motivated was the perfect word to describe the boys who were part of the 20 15-2016 swim and dive team. The group of young men was lead by their team captains Braly Keller and Noah Heiser, who have both participated in swimming for 4 years and have attended the State Championship Swim meet in individual events as well as relays The boys were able t win against every single Lincoln team they competed against, as well as most of the out of town teams.

Along with have and outstanding swim team, Northeast have a very impressive dive team even if it did only consist of 2 boys.

The boys dive team has always been exceptional and very impressive, and this year is no exception to that. Senior Austin Alexander placed 2nd in state along with winning conference and sophomore Aaron Haeffner placed 4th and placed second behind Austin at conference. Along with his fourth place medal, Aaron also won a majority of the regular season meets. With the help of the divers and every member of the boys team, the guys were able to do many things never done before by the program. For example, the team beat Lincoln Southeast and Lincoln East 2 years in a row they won the city championship, and they finished the season by winning the Heartland Athletic Conference. Each year the boys soccer team pushes themselves to get better. They condition well before the season starts and have pick up games with one another to get in some practice before the actual season starts. This year is no different. Boys not in a winter sport were practicing for tryouts and helping with soccer camps. They each spent multiple days pushing themselves to try and make the best team. The boys on this year's varsity team were the ones who showed the best skills on the field and demonstrated the greatest ability to lead the team. As the season goes on, the whole team must learn how to work together to accomplish their goals. All the returning players help teach the newest members the ins and outs of the game, while at the same time teaching them several life lessons regarding hard work and teamwork By the end of the season, the whole team hopes to have come a long way and end the season as a better, stronger team.

Boys Soccer

As members of the junior varsity and reserve soccer teams, these boys are always pushing themselves to do better. Some of the members on these teams are pushing themselves everyday at practice to hopefully be on the varsity someday. They try their hardest at all of their games and take the helpful pointers that older team members give them and their coaches. Soccer is a very challenging sport and to play it, the team members need to be in great condition. Both of these teams work hard at conditioning and also during practices to better their playing skills. Going up against some tough competitors throughout the year, all twenty-six of these boys work hard to improve their skills day after day, practice after practice. They do this in hopes of beating other teams and making it on the varisty team someday.

Tennis is a sport that a lot of people at Northeast have grown to love over the years. The tennis program, for both boys and girls, has continued to grow over the past few years. All of the girls on the varsity tennis team have a passion for the sport that shows in how they play. Everyone, including the youngest players, tries to give it their all at practice and during matches. In their doubles matches they play for their partner along with the rest of the team. The three seniors on the team are great leaders for all the other players, including players from the lower level teams. Thee seniors are very helpful with giving advice and giving rides to the players who cannot drive themselves to the matches. These seniors are great leaders for the whole team and have helped to better many players and motivate _ the girls to give it their all on and off the courts All of the girls work hard to have a fun and rewarding season.

All of the girls on the junior _varsity and reserve tennis teams strive to someday be on varsity. They practice hard and give it their all _ throughout the season. Occasionally some of the girls have the chance to move up and practice with the varsity team and sometimes even play with them at matches At their practices throughout the season the girls work on various things. For the returning players, they mainly work on things to help them make a higher team and better their current team. For new players the coaches are very good at teaching the basics of tennis to anyone who wants to join the team. As the season moves on, the girls bond as a team and for the players who do doubles, they find a good match for themselves . For doubles it is important to have a partner you can rely on and who will try her hardest during the whole match. So by the time the season comes to a close all of the girls will have made friendships with one another and found a playing style that works for them and for the rest of the team .

The athletic trainers room can be seen filled with athletes getting taped and iced and using heat pads almost everyday after school and before their sports practices start, during all seasons, fall, winter, and spring. They get help from the student trainers as well as from the head athletic trainer. Any student has the opportunity to help out the head athletic trainers and learn how to tape ankles and wrists and how to ice injuries. Most all of the students that take advantage of this opportunity really enjoy the people they work with and being able to learn more about the field of athletic training and medicine, in general. The trainers go to all the varsity football games, home and away, • along with home basketball games, volleyball games, and wrestling matches, and they are ready to help athletes that get hurt while playing or who need ice afterwards. All of the trainers are super helpful and ready to help any athlete who comes in with an injury or any other number of problems athletes can experience throughout their sports seasons.

WE'VE GOT SPIRIT

Varsity cheer can be found at any home event leading the school in cheers. Their goal is to help with school sp irit and sho \l\, the other athletes support. Two highlights to cheer season are football and basketball. These events usually draw the largest student sections. A larger student section makes the cheerleaders job more fun. Junior Fayth Jackson says she love ~ interacting with the students and the best part is always whe r everyone in the student section participates. The cheerleade r~ also build school spirit away from the sidelines. The tean:, g et • together to create many posters throughout the school ye ar These posters not only show support to athletes, but let th e rest of the student body know where to be and when. · Through cheering, the girls build lasting relationships. They become less like friends and more like sisters They know they always have someone to turn to when they need help. The memory making starts well before the school year starts. Fayth says her favorite memory was during the summer The veteran members had to teac h all of the new cheerleaders how to whip. They made many more memories once the school year started. Th girls will always have theses memories and friendship s thanks to cheer.

It is half time of the football game and a group of people all in the same uniforms come out on the field setting up colorful flags. The marching band is playing their music and the color guards start their performance. They're focusing on not dropping their flag and synchronizing with the music. The guards dance around the band players, careful of not running into them, but still doing

their unique dances while twirling the beautiful and colorful flags.

They try to make their flags go with the music to add another element to the performance as a whole. Each year the color guard gets new uniforms to match the theme of their show and to ?Jlso go along with their flags. The members enjoy finding out what the new theme is as well as getting their new uniforms.

Halftime 1s our time

It's halftime and the band is marching onto the football field. The announcer reveals the theme of the show , "Harry Potter," and then the music begins . The next ten minutes are dedicated to the marching band and color guard creating images to match the music they play. After the show ; you can hear the musicians talking about how the performance went and how they felt about it. "It is always an amazing feeling after a good halftime show. I love the rush you get when the hours of work you've done finally pay off," says drum major Josh Olsen

The band spends an entire week in the summer working on marching fundamentals and the beginning of the show The first day is solely focused on learning how to march and the different commands used. The second day is spent reviewing the first day and beginning to learn how to read drill charts (the grid that shows where a player is supposed to be on the field). By the third day the band has a couple different charts down . " It was hard at first to learn how to march and read drill charts , but after band camp, it got a lot easier to understand what to do and where to go, " says freshman flute Josephina Bacon.

By the end of the season the band has gone through three competitions and four halftime performances. During winter break, some of the band members went to London to march in their New Year's Day Parade. They got to visit some of the major sights of London, including the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey, and perform in front of millions of people and world-wide television. The band was able to show off its skill in many different places this year and made halftime a more enjoyable experience.

Being on stage in front of a big audience can be a very daunting task for a lot of students and also some adults. The students who are part of the various performing arts activities at Northeast really enjoy it and almost live for the fun of being on stage. They are filled with passion for the activities, including show choir, band, orchestra, theater, and musical, which is what makes our performing arts department so talented. All of th~ students are ready to give their best performance and make sure to give the crowd a performance they will remember forever. In our performing arts department, throughout the different options, all of the students put in a lot of hours of practice. All of the activities will practice outside of school just like any other sport in order to perform at their best when it comes time for a concert or the night of a show. Many of the students who participate in performing arts will be part of multiple groups at the same time, including things outside of the performing arts department, like sports, during all seasons. The passion in the students in the various performing arts really shows during all performances as well as on and off the stage.

All the Comforts of Home

This year, the cast and crew members of the Northeast Theater Department came together to perform All the Comforts of HorrJe, an English play written by William Hooker Gillette. The play takes place in the Pettibone home where Edbert and Rosabelle Pettibone experience several misunderstandings along with daughter, Emily Pettibone. Other key characters include Alfred Hastings who turns the Pettibone house into a housing facility, and the Bender family; one of the families renting out a room in the house. Director and drama teacher Bruce Chapman has directed thirty-one years worth of plays here at Northeast, but says this play was especially fun to direct. "This year, I was able to show off the wonderful talents of my students and cast members. The size of the cast allowed for everyone to be fully acknowledged, 11 states Chapman.

Opening night took place on October 6, with around seventy-five people showing up for the event. "Every night was incredibly packed . We even had an overflow on our last night with over one hundred people in attendance. The audience always makes it so much more enjoyable!" stated Senior Hailey Bowden. Every year Bruce Chapman and his theater students amaze the audience with their talents, and this year they did not disappoint. Senior Tenaj Jones and Junior Dawson Michel say they had an amazing time working on this play, and they "look forward to the spring. 11

able a great opportunity. You are eing surrounded by friends. Being the many ways to make new friends . A lot tudents suggest that everybody should try trying out for a play is highly recommended by many upper classmen. It really helped them come out of their shells as freshmen. Students practice for several weeks leading up to the Spring play. It is a lot of fun where you can goof around but there are times where you have to be serious and do what you're told If you join the play, you get to wear fun costumes and act out famous books and movies like Grease or Sherlock Holmes There is a play for almost every season. The spring play, Sherlock Holmes by William Gillette and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, was held between March 1 and March 4 . The 1899 mystery, based on Conan Doyle's character of the same name, was a thrilling mystery with suspense and intrigue The play·s director, Bruce Chapman, is known for choosing interesting scripts. Beside being a talented director, he is a very friendly guy who gets along well with a lot of the students, and many students say that he is a fun teacher. So, if you 're thinking of auditioning for a role in one of next year 's plays, that decision should be elementary .

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Talented students who auditioned for the Wizard Of Oz musical, spent many hours running their lines and practicing for their big performance. The main characters had a lot more lines to remember and had to be prepared for every scene that they were a part of. For the people chosen to be a lead role, they were ready to take on the challenge. Even the oth er individuals who were part of the cast were ready to do their best work.

Each cast member worked hard to put on an enjoyable musical for the audience, which included family, friends, and classmates. The whole cast, main characters and everyone else, knew they played a very important part in making the whole show run smoothly. The musical had multiple nights of performances, and each one was better than the last. The newer members of the cast got over some of their stage fright and things ran smoother with each show

Audiences loved the familiar story and characters, from the Dorothy to the Wizard of Oz, from the Cowardly Lion to the members of the Lullaby League, which was made up of students and siblings of students. Every cast member, every crew member, every musician, worked hard to make the musical each performance one to remember.

Lincoln Northeast has many talented students. Some students sing, dance, or act, and some students excel at playing a musical instrument.

Some of those excellent musicians had the opportu"nity to go out and play for people at Gateway Mall. The Lincoln Northeast Band members have played their musical instrument at many other locations, too. They even had the chance to play in the New Year's Day parade in London (that's in England!!). Students also have the chance to compete in state competitions, like solo and small ensemble.

Practice is a really big thing for all the musicians, no matter how long they have been playing. All the musicians understand that they need to know their part in order for the song to run smoothly, and they put in the time to make sure that happens.

If, as Ella Fitzgerald supposedly said, "the only thing better than singing is more singing," than nobody has it better than the Rockets. With so many students involved in vocal music, between Show Choir and performing groups , not to mention several other classes in the vocal arts, Lincoln Northeast offers a number of opportunities for student to lift their voices in song.

Of course, vocal performance is not easy . After all, not everyone has a voice like a combination of Fergie and Jesus, but in LNE music, there is a place for everyone. Mrs . Thorpe_can guide you in Concert Choir. Mrs Sipes can show you the ropes in LNE Singers. But, whichever you choose , you'd better be prepared to put in the work Nobody gets better by doing nothing, and the vocal music teachers here at LNE expect you to do your best to improve.

So, what does it take to be a singer? First, you have to have good posture . No slouching No slumping. No staring at your feet. You want to be able to fill your lungs with • air, and the best way to do that is to stand up straight.

Next, you need to breathe. Sounds simple , right? Singing, however , requires deep breathing. You've got to make your voice clear and loud. You need breath to do that.

You also have to know what to do with your face. You have to shape notes with your mouth . You have to relax your jaw. You have to stretch and prepare all ten of the muscle groups in your face. Wait. You have ten muscle groups in your face? Wow

There are so many things a good singer has to learn to master. Here we have only touched on a few We m ight have talked about the knowledge of anatomy that a good singer needs. Knowing how the diaphragm and the lungs work is important. We might have talked about harmony, range, hydration, or a hundred other things. It's a lot.

That shouldn't stop you. What you don't know, you can learn. And, while Ella didn't say it, it's still true: the only thing worse than not singing, is not trying

Junior year is notorio:s: ::::f:::~:~ty e r

difficult years for all high school students

Lots of big important tests, like the ACT, and a lot of AP classes for many students, looking for colleges and going on visits, and even everyday school work is put on the plate of all juniors. Even with all of this mess happening, students manage to make it through the school year and look forward to being a senior and only having one year left of high school. With the help from all of their teachers, counselors, and . administrators , juniors can make it through their toughest high school year. Even though it is one of the hardest school years, it is also a big milestone. Students finally get the privilege of parking in the lot, and going off campus for lunch. Being able to attend prom and being an upperclassman. Although it is a very hard year , it is also a big turning point in students' high school

Sophomores are on the borderline from underclassmen to upperclassmen. Technically they're underclassmen but they occupy a special place in the class hierarchy. Sophomore year is a transitional year ' in many ways. "Sophomore year has been an adventure for me so far, I'm stuck in between the choices of what I want to become in the future," sophomore Cindy Le said.

The_ change from freshman year to sophomore year can be a shock for some freshman. The support of teams is taken away, and sophomore students have to learn how to be more self-motivated. It's not easy. They feel like they're totally done with school and can be frustrated by it, but they know when next year rolls in, they're going to have to really start thinking about their future.

Welcoming th

Freshman year is a scary time for all students It's the beginning of high school and the first year at a new school. Even though it seems to take forever to get through, by senior year, most all students reflect 6n how fast it all goes by. Enjoy the easy freshmen classes before they start to get really tough. Freshman year is here to help you transition into high school. The classes aren't too hard but are still challenging enough to show how the rest of high school will be. Enjoy the first year as a high school student. Make new friends from different schools and in other grades. Go to school activities like dances and sporting events. Make the first year of high school a year to remember

Ms. Janssen and former Rocket (and Inside Out subject) Hadgi Kero celebrate the Community Art Night in the Commons.

Teachers team up to show school and community diversity

During first semester Ms . Janssen and Mrs. Elsener's students participated in an eye opening project showing the diversity of nort heast Lincoln. Ms. Janssen's ninth grade Geography students and Mrs. Elsener's Digital Art students created portraits telling stories of northeast Lincoln residents. Janssen's students selected 40 people from Northeast High School and northeast Lincoln to participate in the project. Ninth grade students used a series of interviews to capture the subjects oral history, as well as their connection to northeast Lincoln. Digital Art students used photographs of the subjects to create a portrait to reveal each subject's personal story. The students had a community art night in December to present their artwork and inform all of Lincoln about this service learning project.Their work even appeared on the Channel 8 news, as well as in the Lincoln Journal Star . Portraits have been displayed in the Media Center during second semester, with hopes that they will soon be displayed in local businesses this spring.

With the stress -caused by classes, sports, community activities, and jobs, students need a way to focus on a subject they enjoy in a fun and leisurely way . Clubs provide the perfect way for students to relieve all the stress while participating in activities that interest them

At LNE, there are currently 27 clubs ranging from topics in languages , lifestyles, and hobbies. These clubs meet at various times and locations, and on differen t days . Clubs such as National Honor Society, Pershing Pals, and FBLA participate in events within the community. National Honor Society secretary, senior Addison Sellon, states, "One of the biggest events NHS gets to b e a part of is Relay for Life. We get to join other community members for a whole night to help support the American Cancer Society". Other clubs including Asian Caucus, Rocket Crew, and Student Council hold special events here at school for every student to get involved with. For Valentine's Day the members of Student Council lined just about every hallway wall on the first floor with individual hearts for each student and staff member. "We wanted to make sure everyone here at LNE was recognized on this special holiday", said junior council member Cole Meyer.

When a part of a club, students have the opportun ity to learn additional skills or life lessons that may not be taught inside a classroom. In debate and speech , members get to focus on their communication skills, while students involved in Razas Unidas can learn another language and culture Whether looking for an enjoyable way to help other people, or searching for a fun way to gain new experiences, Northeast has a variety of clubs to keep any student interested.

Members of Studen t Council get ready to l i ne the first floor hallway with a Val ent i nes Day heart fo r every student and te acher.

LIFE ON THE LAUNCH PAD

Life for students at Northeast has many different components. M9ny hours are spent between the walls of Northeast for students. Although the daily life of every students varies, there are some common parts. There's the watchful eye of Snoozy in the commons during lunch or administrators checking for IDs as students walk through the halls. Then there's the class time. Not every lesson takes a whole class period, so this leaved down time to socialize or do work. This time allows students to build bonds with eachother. At some point in their Northeast career every student will find him or herself hanging out in the media center with their friends, whether it's during lunch or after school. Another part of a student's life is going to sporting events. Not every student is able to participate in a sport, so they get to go and participate in the student section. Every' student can remember their first time being in the student section. Students at Northeast are provided with a wide variety of activities to participate in. No matter who a student is, they will find something for for them to be involved in and to make memories with.

While juggling school work, sports, clubs, friends, and family, many students are also working part-time at various different places of employment. Students can prepare for their future jobs by starting now and making their own money Mc:1ny students also have bills to pay, such as gas, insurance, car payments, and more Minimum wage was increased from $8 .00 to $9.00 an hour in January, which helps students pay for these bills. Even though work is something people do to make money, many have a blast with at their job with their coworkers. Some have the opportunity to work with their friends from school, making their job a lot more enjoyable.

The saying, Once a Rocket , Always a Rocket , holds true for ma ny of the staff here at Northeast. There a multiple staff members who were once students here at Northeast. They walked the halls just like you do everyday (maybe not the same exact halls but they 're still pretty similar) . They had to wait in a ridiculously long line to get food in the cafeteria and also went to sporting events to support their classmates. They attended school dances wi t h their friends and tried out for the various activities offered to them , like sports and -music groups. All of the st aff member s who were once here at Northeast as students say that there has been plenty of change. While n o n e of them were here when the school first opened seventy five year ago, it is still safe to say that there have bee n si g nificant change from the way LNE was when they were l1ere, just like there has been major changes j ust in th e past few years Some of them might have never thought in a million years they would come back to teach at the high school they went to after t hey g raduated from college, but all of them say they really enjoy it and wouldn 't want to be teaching anywhere else They are here in a different way than when they were here as st u dents because now they are the teacher standing at the front of the classroom, b u t t hey still say it feels like home and is a wonderful place to work All of th e ret urning teachers really do believe in the saying that every

Foreign Exchange Student

Do you know how it feels to go to schoo l in a different country , surrounded by different things? Well , these 4 exchange students at Lincoln- Northeast High school will give a brief summary about their experience so far and a little bit about themselves F i rst off, junior Nicole De Petris is from Italy and she loves to stay on social media. At first , it took some time for her to adjust to the American life. She likes trying all the new things she hasn 't done before It was hard for her to connect with her peers at school and to get used to the things here. Second , junior Lison Degas unfortunately left before she finished the school year Our third exchange student , jun ior lustinian Catargiu was born from Romania but now lives in Germany During his first week in the States he had really bad jet lag.

Christian

At his old school , he was in Student Council. This year he joined Track as a discus thrower , football , and German club. Some things he li kes in Lincoln so far is Dairy Queen and hanging out with friends. lustinian claims that everything is bigger here than in Germany. Last but not least , junior Christian Frerichs is from a small village in Northern Hamburg, Germany . For the first week in the United States he felt like he was on vacation because school hadn't started yet , and he was so far away from home Some of his favorite things in Lincoln so far is that everything is close together. All these students love it here in the United States and would love to come bac k again.

No one in the world could ask for a better daughter.

You are stunningly beautiful, intelligent, and courageous!

You have accomplished so many things I never could, and for that, I am extremely proud of you.

Thank you for making me look good; )

1 You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don 1 t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off you!" - Maya Angelou

Throughout this yearbook everything has been defined by numbers. The number of students in a grade, number of teachers. The number of members in a club or on a sports team. Anything is able to be defined using numbers, just as was done through this whole yearbook. As being the seventy fifth yearbook that Northeast has created, its was only fitting to use numbers as a way to characterize this year. Even though the yearbook was full of numbers, this school year was not all about statistics and counting. There were fun times had by all the students and also teachers. School dances were held, sporting events were gone to and normal school took place. School went on. But instead of just thinking of it as another school year, think of it as a year with 7 hours to a school day and with a senior class of 336. As students move on to another year of high school and the seniors move on to the next things in their life, think of this past year as a school year that was full of numbers, big and small. Numbers that made this school year what it was. A school year told by the numbers.

Special thanks to the many students, staff, parents and business contributors for their assistance.

nThe Rocket staff chose 11 By the Numbers 11 as the theme for this year's yearbook. In making the 2015 Rocket, the staff chose five basic color palettes, blue (F3920), purple (F3325), yellow (Fl 720), pink (F0625), and green (F5020). They selected Avant Guard, David, Elegance, Humana Sans, and Mixage as their fonts. The annual was produced using Walsworth Online Design. The Walsworth plain in Marcelline, MO, printed 550 copies of the 240 page book on 9xl 2 paper. Mike Diffenderfer was Walsworth's sales representative. The books were purchased presale for $65 and for $ 70 thereafter.

The yearbook staff apologizes for any errors.
