In high school. juniors are often the class that gets left behind. Freshmen and sophomores are catered to while being introduced to the school. while seniors get to live through all the excitement of graduation. Because of that. Juniors are often forgotten.
But what Juniors learn might never be forgotten. They begin to forge their way into the world and begin the process of finding _ who they are. When you are a Junior. some of the insecurities about getting lost in school. and not having friends. go away.
You become more assertive. Bonds are formed not only with friends. but with membe.rs of the staff too.
Then before you know it. you 're registering for senior classes and the letters from colleges begin to pour in. Suddenly the end isn't as far away as it seemed to be when sophomore year began.
Even though juniors are stuck in the middle. the finish line isn't so far away. Abdulla, Rezan Adams, Sasha Adams, Whitney Ahrens, Dustan Ajeti, Labinot Akerson, Carly Al-Sayagh, Asawer

The biggest news this year at Lincoln High came in 419 small packages; Freshmen. The class of 2007 was the first at Lincoln High since 1977. In addition to . the incoming freshmen came new clas~es such as English 9, Algebra 9, and Fitness for Life, just to name a few. Freshman sports and cheerleading were also added.
Although this was their first year in high school, and they were the youngest, the class of 2007 pulled through it and enjoyed their first taste of high school classes and friends.

When people think of Family and Consumer Sciences, they usually think of cooking and sewing. However, FCS is more than just baking and learning how to sew. 1l1e FCS classes that Lincoln High offers am like building blocks to help students better prepare for the future. ·
In addition to classes like Creative Clothing Design, Culinary Baking, Cultural Foods, Food Service, and Interior Design, Lincoln High also offers classes such as Human Behavior, Teen Issues, Student Pamnting, Child Development, and others.
Some LHS students take such classes as Student Pa renting for the children they may already have or am expecting. Others may take Baking or Creative Clothing Design for future occupations such as fashion designers or chefs.
Whatever class a student may take for whatever reason, they can expect to learn something very valuable and useful that can continue to help them for the rest of their lives.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA are names you might hear a lot around school. These two very active clubs at Lincoln High are sponsored through the business department. You may remember Superfan T-shirts, the smell of cookies from room 112, or their annual trip to Worlds of Fun in the fall. DECA does a lot for the community and adds a business element to Lincoln High. FBLA participates in Meals on Wheels and volunteers in the community.
There are many business classes that are available as well as the clubs. If you are thinking of going into marketing you could take Marketing, Promotional Marketing, Advanced Marketing, or be an officer in an Applied Economics class. Maybe computers are your thing. In that case you can take Keyboarding, Internet Multimedia, Desktop Publishings, and Advanced Computer Applications. No matter what your interest is, there are many opportunities available in business at Lincoln High.

Many of these students already speak multiple languages before tackling English.
In addition to the typical required classes, these students also take English Language Learners classes. These ELL courses help students to focus specifically on the very difficult task of learning the subtlties of the English language as well as the variety of cultural complexities that go along with living in the United States.
ELL classes start at Level One for beginning speakers, although even brand new ELL students take some core classes, and as students progress, they advance to higher and higher levels. After the students complete the highest level, Level Five, they no longer take ELL classes.
Lincoln High School is very lucky to have such a diverse environment within this school building, and with students from such a variety of cultures, LHS continues to be a unique place in Lincoln, and in Nebraska.

Here at Lincoln High we have many classes available for students who need and want to learn about the
tre ard we offer Algebra, Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. LHS also offers Transition Math, Discrete Math and PreCollege Math, basically math for any type of particular interest.
Math is considered one of the hardest subjects in a high school environment. If you miss even one day you miss a lot of work. So here at Lincoln High we strong1y encourage math students to attend class daily.
This year also saw students having to pass the Math Graduation Demonstration Exam. ·With stricter math standards in the district and across the country, LHS Math teachers had their hands full. Changes in curriculum kept things lively for students and staff alike.

Having to adjust to a new style of coaching, by new coach Gale Hadenf eldt, the JV volleyball team started out slow, but finished the season strong.
The two captains, Becky Lodes (11) and Maddy Biggs (11), sparked the team to a season. The team stomped over some of the better JV teams in the state. The team ended the season as the champions of the Benson Tournament in Omaha. Congratulations on a great season and good luck next year, and in the years to follow.

RESER VE AND FRESHMEN VOLLEYBALL
THE FUTURE LOOKS GREAT!
By: Riki Klabenes and Jennifer Endres
STATE BOUND! Well, in a couple of years anyway. This year's Reserve and Freshmen teams both had great seasons. Reserve had a lot of freshmen that played key spots on the team, including freshmen setters, Sara Moore and Jenna Keller, who both had exceptional seasons. With this young team, Dee Cee Mathers pulled off a successfull season. The Freshmen adapted well to playing in high school, finding out quickly that it is a completely different level than middle school. However, they had a . fun and educational season and we are looking forward to seeing them become the Varsity team in the future, and upholding the tradition of great volleyball here at Lincoln High School! Good luck in the future!

Rebuilding For Success
Lin c ol n Hi gh Varsity Football

The Lincoln High Football team entered the season with a number of questions. The Links had to replace to a number of skill positions like quarterback and running back. Coach John Farrand switched the offense to a Wing T offense to utilize the number of quick backs the team had. The season opened against Omaha Burke, a game the Links lost 31-10. The team rebounded against Lincoln Southwest with a 48-27 victory over the Silverhawks. The rest of the season was rough for the team. They lost the next game against Lincoln Southeast 21- 7, and followed that up with a loss to Lincoln Pius 47-14. The next week the Links suffered another setback against Lincoln East 24-0. In the Homecoming game, the Links lost 30- 7 to Kearney. Columbus got the best of the Links beating them 17- 7. The Links played a great game against one of the best in the state, North Platte, but ultimately lost 20-16. A disappointing season ended with a 28- 7 loss to Lincoln
Northeast.
Even with the help of junior Ricky Massa' s ten interceptions, the Links finished with a 1-8 record.

JUNIOR VARSITY SOFTBALL

The J.V. Softball team put a lot of hard work and dedication into this season. This year was a year for rebuilding. Never having, played together prior to this season, this years team lacked chemistry. The squad's play suffered because of the lack of chemistry, and they finished with a record of 2-27. The bright spot of the season was winning the double header against Lincoln North Star. The girls have worked very hard this year and they are sure to experience success next year. Despite their record, the girls never stopped trying.

At the dual meets, Lincoln High defeated North Star, Hastings, Northeast, and Pius X. "I was impressed with the players' strengths and determination during their matches," Ward commented.

Getting Into the Swing of Things
By Brittany Allen
The Lincoln High Girl's Golf season was a season of change, with a new coach in Sam Sharpe. Sharpe brought years of experience to the team since he already coaches the Boy 's Team. There were three returning letter winners in seniors Kestrel Hauptman, Jenika Johnson, and Alma Deumic. Senior Allie Cole and freshman Katie Miller were two new additions to the team, and senior Vanessa Bartek learned on the job in her first season. The girl's learned a lot ·during the season, and each improved. Hauptman brought the most to the team, since she has been on Varsity since her freshman year. At the district tournament, the Links came up just short of qualifying for the State Tournament, finishing fourth when a third place finish was needed. At the tournament, each girl scored better than their average throughout the year.

The Lady Links really came together this year after having the smallest turnout for tryouts in Lincoln High history. Their first game was a little shaky and throughout the season the team had some ups and downs. But by the senior leadership of Jennifer Endres, Alissa Holland, Riki Klabenes, Abby Wood and Halley Vanlaningham, the Links had a successful 10-9 regular season. They added another two victories verses Northeast and Southwest to claim the District Championship. The Lady Links did an awesome iob at State and ended their long season with a 12-10 record by losing in the first round to first ranked Lincoln East by seven points.
When asked about this year's season, Jennifer Endres replied, "I think that we would have been able to accomplish more if we were able to play more consistantly throughout the whole season."
The Links will have some huge spots to fill next year after losing 5 out of 6 of their most consistant players, leaving iunior Maddy Biggs to lead as the only returning starter.

Visions of Success
2003-2004 Varsity Boy's Basketball Team Thrills Fans With an
By Jacob Miller
The Varsity Boy's entered the Basketball season with visions of a repeat championship. There would be a number of holes to fill with only one returning starter from last years championship team.
It was an exciting season for the team. There were highs for the team when they beat Lincoln Southeast 46-41 and when the team won the District tournament in thrilling fashion. The Links outlasted a pesky Lincoln Southwest team in the first round, winning 81-80 in double overtime. Then in the district final game, the Links beat Omaha Northwest 83-61 in front of a rowdy crowd to earn their way into the State Tournament.
In the first round of State, the Links squared off against the top-ranked Omaha Central Eagles. Unlike the regular season match-up, which Central won, the Links were able to limit turnovers and win the game 54-46. It was the third straight year that the Links defeated the Eagles in the first round of State.
In the next round, the Links played Omaha Westside in a rematch of last years semi-final game. It was a close game throughout, with the Links holding the advantage most of the game. In the final seconds of the game, Westside tied the game at 44. Westside would have the last laugh when they stole and inbounds pass and made a basket as time ran out to win the game 46-44 and eliminate the Links. The Links finished the season with a 17-6 record.

The spotlight athlete for the team is senior shooting guard Marcus Minzel. This is Minzel' s third year on Varsity and his first starting for the team. This year Nlinzel averaged 12.4 points a game, and also threw in 4.1 assists a game. Minzel attributes his play to ''hard work. I try to get better every day." Minzel is also known for his tough defense, as he often draws the assignment of defending the other teams best player.

This year's JV boys team took a hit, after loosing some players to the new high school, North Star.
The team had a lot of new players and had to learn how to play together but by the end of the season everything was clicking and they were looking pretty smooth out there on the court.
Playing very well down the stretch to become City Champions over Lincoln Southeast.
We are all looking forward to seeing all of these guys out again next year showing off their skills on the Varsity court.
Good Luck to all of the guys in the future.

A time of learning and preparing for the future.
That sums up the seasons for this year's Reserve and Freshmen Boys Basketball teams.
With a lot of new players, and some old, the coaches pushed their young athletes to improve by focusing on the physical and mental aspects of the game.
The players worked hard throughout the season and in the end both teams came out with good records and lots of memories.
We all enjoyed watching these two teams develop over the season and are looking forward to seeing them really explode next year and in their years to come here at Lincoln High School.

The Lincoln High Wrestling team . came into the 2003-2004 season with a number of questions, due to the loss of a number of key wrestlers.
Two wrestlers, seniors Steve Amos and Bill Dieckhoff, did return with plenty of experience for the Links. Those two were also the wrestlers that made it to the State Tournament this season. In the tournament, Amos made a great run throughout, making it to the finals before losing in the closing seconds to finish second. Dieckhoff lost early, but still made it through part of the consolation bracket, finishing in sixth place.
Those weren't the only two wrestlers to make improvements though. Head Coach Jim Baker attributed the whole teams improvement to hard work.

Spotlight Athlete
This year ' s spotlight athlete is four-year letter winner, senior Steve Amos. At the District Tournament held in Fremont, Amos finished in third place by defeating Tyler Johnson from Columbus , 10-2. Then he moved on to the State Tournament. He went into the tournament just wanting to give it his best and see how things would end up. Well, the results ended up with win after win. He defeated opponents from Millard South, 121, Lincoln Southwest, 14-5, and Kearney, 7-2. ln the championship match against Micah Laufenberg of Bellevue East, Amos still as the underdog, battled hard. Amos lost in a very close match, 12-13. Amos finished the tournament with a second place medal and finished the season with an incredible record of 30- 7. Amos surely is a great competitor and we are very proud of him for ending his great career on a fantastic note!

Lincoln High Has always been known for its Drama Department and its ability to put on wonderful quality performances. This year has proved to be no different. The Lincoln High drama students put on plays such as "The Perils of Lulu," "Orphan Train," which took state, and "Th e Crucible." Along with ~wo student productions, "Take Five," and "I Just Want To Tell Somebody." This year's musical was "The Secret Garden," which proved to be outstanding. With many roles and diverse parts the actors showed that once again they are the best. This year's drama seniors will be had to replace, but then again with all the other actors in our remarkable theatre company, there will always be someone to play the part.

JI A THOUSAND PlCTURES lS WORTH ONE WORD", BUT lSN'T lT JI A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS?" WELL YES, BUT NOT THlS TIME. WE (THE YEARBOOK STAFF) TOOK THAT SIMPLE PHRASE KNOWN BY MANY AND MADE lT UNIQUE TO US. BECAUSE THAT lS WHAT WE ARE UNIQUE, EACH ONE OF US IN OUR OWN WAY. EVEN MORE UNIQUE IN IT'S OWN WAY IS OUR SCHOOL; BY lT'S DISTINCTIVE QUALITIES: CHARACTER, DIVERSITY, LEADERSHIP, SPORTSMANSHIP, AND UNITY. AND WH:EN WE PUT TOGETHER ALL OF OUR UNIQUE QUALITIES, WE GET ONE WORD "UNKS " , WHICH DE FINES US. BUT WHEN WE CAN TAKE THAT ONE SIMPLE WORD AND PUT WITH 1T A THOUSAND DIFFERENT PICTURES, EACH ONE BEING UNIQUE, NOT ONE ALIKE, THAT lS SOMETHING THAT OCCURS ONCE lN A LIFETIME. WHICH IS DEFINITELY SOMETHlNG THAT MAKES US EVEN MORE UNIQUE, EACH ONE OF US JUST A UTUE MORE THAN WHEN WE STARTED.
