9.201 - Ensure that post conflict development agenda and programmes for reconciliation take account of the essential needs of the Tamils of Indian origin. Improve the health and educational facilities and also provide better living conditions in the estate areas

An Inter-Ministerial Committee comprising Ministries of
Child Development & Women’s Affairs; Health; Plantation Industries; Education and Livestock & Rural Community Development has been established to discuss and devise suitable programmes to address this recommendation. In an attempt to improve health services, the government has decided to take over 52 estate hospitals. To date, 38 hospitals have been formally taken over. An Action Plan for the improvement of estate hospitals, specifying problems to be addressed and requirements to be fulfilled, has been prepared and submitted. It identifies problems and requirements under 03 categories: (1) Infrastructure development (2) Human Resources and (3) Improvement of Nutritional Status.
