Getting the Right Rate with Soil Testing Follow the QR Code to find out more about this Project
Create farm maps with paddock yield and normal fertiliser rate
Record sampling location, equipment, depth, date and conditions
An agronomist can help you: interpret your results, decide what fertiliser to apply, and at what rates
Apply fertiliser: on still, dry days, on non-waterlogged soils, and when pasture is actively growing TOP TIP Don’t soil test areas that have been fertilised within the previous 3 months
Take plant tissue tests in spring on actively growing plants
Use appropriate sampling equipment which reaches the desired depth for results
20-40 cores are needed for a representative sample
Keep the samples in a cool dark space and send off to your nominated lab ASAP
Ensure your form is filled out accurately and send off to lab with soil sample This fact sheet has been developed as part of our 'Engagement in the Scott for Catchment Health'. This project is supported through funding from the State Natural Resource Management (NRM) Program.
