REFLECTIONS FROM A PASTOR “Pastor, I haven’t seen my family in four years and the window for them to travel is closing.” Some stories you just can’t walk away from, and this was one of them. Our church learned of a man who had immigrated to the U.S. back in 2017 escaping persecution and fleeing for his life. For the past four years he has worked hard, saved all he could to afford his wife and three children to travel here and start a new life together. A major travel ban was looming. This man’s dream of reuniting his family hung in the balance and needed help.

We supported him as best we could to help afford his family travel to here and overcome all the challenges that come from arriving to the U.S. from overseas. As a local church we know we are not alone in caring for people in this community. Love INC is a ministry partner and a resource we can lean on when we have an opportunity to help someone in need.

“T his was nothing short of a miracle as Love INC was able to help.”

This was nothing short of a miracle as Love INC was able to help this family of 5 begin their new life here in Minnesota. With very little notice, a truck full of beds, furniture, and basic home-goods from Love INC’s resale store, FurniShare, showed up to the man’s home. Volunteers filled the empty home in advance of his family’s arrival. The family was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude as they walked in together to their home fully furnished. As a pastor in this community, I appreciate the simple and profound principle to serve and love people in the name of Christ. I’m grateful for Love INC and the ways we work together to meet the real needs of real people locally that they might experience the unconditional love of Jesus. PAS TO R S TEVE ANDER SON

REFLECTIONS FROM A VOLUNTEER

P U R P O S E

As a Helpline volunteer, I am the first point of contact with new and returning clients who reach out for help. Much of my time is spent listening to their story and understanding their needs. Then, I set in motion the wheels of practical help and support, that is Love INC. The depth of vulnerability a person presents when they reach out for help is humbling. I am honored to be part of showing others unconditional love that leads to hope. When a caller feels despair, I help them take a simple step in a positive direction. My own life has been transformed by serving neighbors in the simplest moments when it is painfully clear that Love INC services are sometimes their last resort. Recently, I took a routine call from a client who just needed a gas card to fill his car up with gas. When he stopped by the Love INC office to pick up the gas card I learned that he had walked over two miles (one way) in -20 temperatures. That gas card on that day was his life-line to work, food and security. I’ll never forget these “Love INC moments” that really impact peoples’ lives. Including mine!
