STARTERS SETTING THE TONE:

GAME NOTES

Carrying the Bats through their hottest two weeks of the season has been the team's starting pitching, which has transformed from a shaky and inconsistent product early in the season into one of the most reliable facets of the ballclub. Across Louisville's blistering 14 game stretch, five different starters have earned victories: Jared Lyons, Adam Plutko, Chase Petty, Charlie Barnes, and tonight's starter T.J. Sikkema. With Petty's 6.1 innings of one-run ball on Sunday against St. Paul, the Bats rotation is now an International League-best 8-1 since the beginning of the hot streak in Nashville on 8/23, ranking among IL leaders in ERA (1st, 2.57), WHIP (1st, 1.14), quality starts (1st, 6), innings pitched (2nd, 70.0), batting average against (3rd, .225) and strikeouts per walk (4th, 2.90) while allowing just four home runs across that time frame. The Bats have also gotten strong starts from Jose Franco, who has allowed three earned runs in 10.1 innings across three appearances in an opener role in which he has flourished. Sikkema will look to continue this trend of strong starting pitching tonight in Toledo.

STREAKING INTO SEPTEMBER: The Bats are currently one of their hottest streaks in recent history. They have won nine straight games and 13 of their last 14. The nine-game winning streak more than doubles the team's previous longest streak of 2025, surpasses Louisville's longest winning streak from the 2024 season of seven games, and is tied for the longest streak since the Bats won nine straight from 7/17-7/25/18. The last time the Bats won 13 of 14 was from 7/22-8/12/10, when Louisville took 19 of 20 games including a 11-game-winning streak. The longest winning streak in Bats history is a 12-game streak from 5/18-5/31/03. Louisville just finished off a series sweep of St. Paul at home, the first time the Bats have swept an opponent in a series since 7/9-7/14 of last year, also against the Saints at Louisville Slugger Field.

WALK-OFF WEEK MAGIC: Last week against the Saints, the Bats pulled off a pair of incredible late comebacks to keep their winning streak alive. On Wednesday afternoon, the Bats rallied back from a 5-2 deficit in the ninth inning to tie the game on a two-run homer from Rece Hinds before Levi Jordan won it in the 10th on a walk-off single. On Friday night, the Bats were down 4-1 after five and trailed 4-3 in the ninth. Then, birthday boy Blake Dunn tied the game with an RBI triple as the Bats were down to their final strike. An inning later, Edwin Rios ended the game with a leadoff walk-off single in the 10th. Through the first 133 games of the season, Louisville rallied to win a game when trailing after eight innings just two times. The pair of rallies in the past few days against St. Paul have doubled that total to four.

RIOS WRITES SEPTEMBER 5 SCRIPT: With his walk-off single in Friday night's win, Bats slugger Edwin Rios affirmed that September 5 is his day. In his first year with the Bats last season, Rios had a night to remember on 9/5/24, hitting a pair of home runs including a walk-off solo blast in the ninth inning of a 6-5 win over Jacksonville. Exactly one year later on 9/5/25, Rios delivered in the clutch again, going 3-5 with a walk-off single to give the Bats a 5-4 win over St. Paul. In 2024, Rios continued his hot streak into 9/6, hitting another walk-off home run against the Jumbo Shrimp the next night to become the first player in franchise history to hit back-to-back walk-off home runs on consecutive days.

DERBY CITY DUOS: With 88 RBI from Edwin Rios and 80 from Rece Hinds, the Bats’ dynamic slugging pair has now combined for 168 RBI this season, 8th most by a pair of teammates in Louisville franchise history (since 1982). With 12 games left, Rios and Hinds are poised to climb further up the list. Their 168 RBI are the most by a pair of Bats teammates since Joey Votto (92) and Aaron Herr (83) combined for 175 in 2007, but it is still below the franchise record. That honor belongs to the 1983 Redbirds duo of Jim Adduci (101) and Orlando Sanchez (89), who totaled 190 RBI during Louisville’s first division title winning season. The full RBI duo list now reads:

1. 1983 Redbirds – Jim Adduci 101/Orlando Sanchez 89 – 190 RBI

2. 1998 Redbirds – Kevin Barker 96/Scott Krause 82 – 178 RBI

T3. 1999 Redbirds – Scott Krause 98/Kevin Barker 97 – 176 RBI

T3. 2002 Bats – Kevin Witt 107/Brandon Larson OR Raul Gonzalez (each had 69) – 176 RBI

5. 2007 Bats – Joey Votto 92/Aaron Herr 83 – 175 RBI

6. 1982 Redbirds – Mike Calise 91/Kelly Paris 83 – 174 RBI

7. 2000 Riverbats – Brooks Kieschnick 90/Brady Clark 79 – 169 RBI

8. 2025 Bats – Edwin Rios 88/Rece Hinds 80 – 168 RBI

9. 2023 Bats – Matt Reynolds 90/Chuckie Robinson 74 – 164 RBI

10. 1992 Redbirds – Rod Brewer 86/Stan Royer 77 – 163 RBI

DOUBLES FOR DAYS: In addition to turning two on defense, the Bats have been strong at reaching second with their bats. To date, the Bats' 265 doubles are 2nd in the International League and 6th in all of Minor League Baseball. Of the 26 players to take an at-bat for the Bats this season, only rehabber Austin Hays (3 games) didn't collect a two-base hit during his stint in Louisville in April. Earlier this season, the Bats recorded 26 doubles over a seven-game road trip against the I-Cubs from 6/10-15, posting four or more doubles in four of those games. Louisville's season-high in doubles is seven on 4/20 at Columbus. The franchise record for doubles in a game is 11, set on 5/3/10 at Buffalo. In 2025, the Bats have recorded at least one double in 116 of 138 games and have recorded multiple doubles in 75 games. The Bats have slugged 13 doubles across their 14-game heater, tied for seventh-most in the IL in that span.

PROSPECT RANKINGS: The Bats current roster features three of the Reds' Top 30 prospects according to MLB. com. They are starter Chase Petty (No. 7), outfielder Héctor Rodríguez (No. 9), and right-handed pitcher Jose Franco (No. 25).
