END OF 2024 SEASON

Friday, 3/28/2025 vs. Memphis - Opening Day 2025

LOOK AT ALL THOSE BATS: With reliever Arij Fransen's Triple-A debut on Friday, the Bats have now used 74 different players during the 2024 season, 31 position players and 43 pitchers. 21 different players have hit at least one home run for the Bats, and on the pitching end, Chase Petty became the 22nd different Bat to earn a win on the mound last night. Eight players have appeared with the Bats only on rehab assignments this season, and only two players (Erik Gonzalez and P.J. Higgins) have been on the Louisville roster for the entire regular season. The 74 players continues a downward trend from recent years, as the Bats used 84 different players in 2023 and a franchise-record 94 players in 2022.

JORDAN GOING STREAKING: Levi Jordan has taken full advantage of his opportunity with the Bats this season. Since returning from a stint on the IL on 8/21, Jordan is batting .345 (39-113) with 10 doubles, five home runs, 18 RBI, and 22 runs in 28 games. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday against Omaha, Jordan has finished with three hits, falling a triple shy of the cycle on both Wednesday and Thursday before a pair of singles and a home run on Friday and a double last night. Jordan homered in three straight games from 9/1820, tied for the longest home runs streak by a Bat all season. Jordan is familiar with hot stretches, on 5/22, he recorded the first four-hit game by a Bats player this season, going 4-6 with two runs, a home run, and two RBI while finishing a triple short of the cycle in a 9-8 Bats loss in 11 innings. Jordan also made his MLB debut for the Reds on 6/24 and doubled that night for his first MLB hit. He appeared in seven games for the Reds before returning to the Bats. In the field, Jordan has been equally as sharp, committing just two errors over 90 games combined between second base (66 games), third base (nine games), left field (14 games), center field (three games), and right field (three games).

RIOS RAKES IN SEPTEMBER: In the month of September, Bats infielder/designated hitter Edwin Rios has been one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball. Over 16 games this month, the veteran is batting .369 (24-65) with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 16 runs scored, six doubles, a .831 slugging percentage, and a 1.312 OPS. Among all Minor League players this month, Rios ranks among the leaders in home runs (2nd, 8), total bases (2nd, 54), on-base percentage (T-8th, .481), slugging percentage (3rd, .831), OPS (2nd, 1.312), RBI (T-1st, 22), and extra-base hits (3rd, 14). Entering the final game of the season today, Rios is on a 19-game on-base streak that began on 8/29. If Rios reaches base today, he will tie Mike Ford for the longest on-base streak by a Bat this season. Ford's 20-game streak from 4/4-4/30 were his final 20 games played with the Bats. Earlier this week, Rios was named the Bats' 2024 Mary E. Barney Team MVP, joining a prestigious list of previous winners including, among others, Joey Votto (2007), Zack Cozart (2010), Devin Mesoraco (2011), Kevin Quackenbush (2018), TJ Friedl (2021), Fernando Cruz (2022), and Matt Reynolds (2023).

ONE-RUN BATTLES: The Bats have been involved in an incredible amount of tight games during the 2024 season. To date, 51 of the Bats' 148 games (35 percent) have been decided by exactly one run. Early in the season, this was a strength for the Bats, who finished the first half 14-9 in one-run decisions. However, the second half hasn't been as kind for the Bats, as they are 11-17 in one-run games after last Thursday's loss in Iowa. This current series with Omaha is the first six-game series in the entire second half in which the Bats haven't played a one-run game (yet). In 2023, the Bats excelled in these close contests, going 22-13 in onerun games.

URBAEZ RETURNS WITH A VENGEANCE: Despite starting the season with Louisville and appearing in 13 games for the Bats early in the year, infielder Francisco Urbaez didn't stay in Louisville long. A roster crunch had him transferred to Double-A Chattanooga on 5/21. At the Double-A level for the fourth consecutive season, Urbaez performed well for the Lookouts, hitting .263 with seven home runs and 41 RBI in 74 games. Another roster crunch in late August opened the door for Urbaez to return to the Bats on 8/30. Since coming back, he's been arguably the Bats' best hitter. In 14 games, he's batting .392 (20-51) with two home runs and 10 RBI. He's homered twice in the first five games of this series vs. Omaha, his first two Triple-A homers of the season. That followed a career day in the series finale at Iowa last Sunday. Urbaez led the Louisville offense by going 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored, and six RBI, the most by any Bats player all season. The hits and RBI totals are both career-highs. In those 14 games, Urbaez has recorded a hit in 10 of them and more than one hit in six. In the month of September, Urbaez's .404 average ranks fourth in all of Minor League Baseball.

WALK-OFF SHOTS: Edwin Rios' back-to-back walk-off home runs on 9/5 and 9/6 were the fourth and fifth by the Bats this season, following two from catcher Michael Trautwein (3/30 vs. IND, 7/10 vs. STP) and one from fellow catcher Austin Wynns (5/24 vs. TOL). The five walk-off big flies tie the franchise record for most home runs in the Louisville Slugger Field/Reds affiliation era, which began in 2000. The record was originally set in 2002, when Louisville lifted five walk-off homers during the third season at Louisville Slugger Field.

PROSPECT RANKINGS: The Bats current active roster features three of the Reds' Top 30 prospects according to MLB.com. They are starting pitcher Chase Petty (No. 8), starter Connor Phillips (No. 16), and hard throwing reliever Zach Maxwell (No. 23).
