Woven Handbags

The Must-Have Item for June

A handbag is a must-have accessory, no matter what festival, cookout, or special event you attend this summer. It completes your outfit and keeps your essentials within reach. With a new Louisiana summer upon us, now is a great time to pick up a summer-friendly purse for everything you need when you're out and about.

We're seeing lots of popular styles and shapes this year, but the ones to have are woven. Woven handbags have a laid-back summertime vibe and an artisanal look that stands out from mass-produced bags. The intricate weaving patterns add texture and visual interest, making them fashionable accessories.

What's more, many woven handbags are crafted from natural materials like straw, rattan, jute, or bamboo, making them not just a stylish choice but also a responsible and sustainable one.

The weaving process creates a visually appealing structure that is also strong and sturdy. As a result, these handbags are typically lightweight, ensuring a comfortable and easy carry, making them the perfect practical accessory for your summer events.

Transforming

your

outdoor space into a charming and comfortable retreat doesn't have to break the bank!

Creating an inviting and comfortable outdoor living space is within reach whether you want to entertain guests or unwind with a good book. From creative DIY projects to smart shopping tips, these budget-friendly upgrades will help you enhance your space without draining your wallet. Get ready to enjoy your outdoor oasis with stylish and affordable ideas perfect for the Southern lifestyle.

Make a Statement with Repurposed Furniture and Accents

Gathering a collection of tables, seating, planters, and outdoor accents you enjoy doesn't mean you need to run out to a traditional retail outlet. Your first shopping trip could be to your attic or other space where you store furniture and accent pieces you can repurpose in your outdoor area. Scour local antique shops or visit a local resale shop and you may find a brisk cleaning and a fresh coat of paint does wonders to revive a newfound treasure.

Embrace the Versatility of Container Planting

Clusters of planters in interesting shapes, colors, and various sizes add texture, allowing you to create a living landscape to enjoy. For perennial appeal, consider Black-Eyed Susans and Purple Aster. For annuals, try Marigolds and Zinnias; these plants have been popular choices with Louisiana gardeners. The possibilities are endless, and you can change the arrangement as often as you like to keep your patio fresh and vibrant.

JUNE2024/LOUISIANALADIES.COM PAGE14

Let Those Lights Shine

Adding accent lighting in an outdoor space is a great way to enhance a relaxing and charming place to enjoy once the sun goes down. Consider using motion-activated and solar-powered fixtures when lighting along paths, around trees, fountains, or other focal points you want to highlight.

Add a Water Feature

Adding a water feature is a great way to add movement, interest, and a pleasant sound to your patio area. The gentle sound of water creates a relaxing place to enjoy after a long day. Affordable plug-and-play fountains can be found online and at retail outlets. If you like the idea of something more, consider picking up a fountain kit and following the directions to create a falling-water feature to your outdoor space.

Buy Off-Season

This simple strategy allows you to expand and enjoy your outdoor living space and saves you money over time. Many retailers offer high-quality products at discounted prices at season's end, so if you want to include outdoor furnishings, firepits, arbors, pergolas, sheds, greenhouses, and other items on your shopping list, consider buying them off-season.

Plant Herbs

Herbs add beauty and fragrance to the area where you've planted them. They can also be enjoyed throughout the year and, if grown in pots, are easily relocated in colder seasons.

A Pretty Salad

Tips for a Visually Stunning & Delish Dish

Salads are a healthy meal option and an interesting canvas for your culinary creativity. Creating a visually appealing salad can make it more enticing and enjoyable to eat. Here’s how you can craft a pretty salad that is as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the palate.

Start with a Colorful Base

The foundation of your salad sets the stage for the rest of the ingredients. Mix different types of greens to add texture and color. For instance:

Romaine: Crisp and light green, adds a crunch.

Spinach: Dark green leaves offer a vibrant contrast.

Arugula: Its peppery flavor and unique leaf shape add interest.

Add a Rainbow of Vegetables

Colorful vegetables not only enhance the nutritional value but also create a beautiful visual effect.

Consider these options:

Tomatoes: Cherry or grape tomatoes in red, yellow, and orange.

Bell Peppers: Sliced in red, yellow, and green.

Carrots: Shredded or julienned for a burst of orange.

Cucumbers: Thinly sliced for a cool green element.

Red Onions: Thinly sliced for a touch of purple and sharp flavor.

Consider Fruits for Sweetness

Fruits add a touch of sweetness and unexpected flavors to your salad. Some great choices are:

Strawberries: Sliced for a juicy red addition.

Blueberries: Scattered throughout for tiny pops of blue.

Mandarin Oranges: Segments add a citrusy zing. Pomegranate Seeds: Sprinkled for a burst of color and crunch.

WELLNESS & SELF CARE
JUNE2024/LOUISIANALADIES.COM PAGE17

Add Protein for Substance

Protein makes your salad more filling and adds to the visual appeal. Consider:

Grilled Chicken: Sliced thinly for a lean protein source.

Hard-Boiled Eggs: Quartered for a bright yellow yolk contrast.

Shrimp: Grilled or steamed, adding a touch of pink.

Chickpeas: For a plant-based protein and subtle beige color.

Sprinkle on Some Cheese

Cheese can add a rich flavor and creamy texture to your salad. Try these:

Feta: Crumbled for a salty, tangy bite.

Goat Cheese: Soft and creamy, adding white dots throughout.

Parmesan: Shaved or grated for a nutty flavor.

Add Crunch with Nuts and Seeds

Crunchy elements can elevate the texture of your salad. Some ideas include:

Almonds: Sliced or slivered.

Walnuts: Chopped for a rich, earthy flavor.

Sunflower Seeds: Sprinkled for a nutty crunch.

Drizzle on a Delicious Dressing

The right dressing can tie all your ingredients together. Choose one that complements your salad’s flavors:

Balsamic Vinaigrette: A classic choice with a tangy-sweet balance.

Honey Mustard: Adds a bit of sweetness and tang.

Lemon Tahini: Creamy with a hint of citrus.

Assembling Your Pretty Salad

Layering: Start with your base greens, then add vegetables, fruits, and proteins in layers. This creates depth and ensures that every bite is flavorful.

Arranging: Arrange ingredients thoughtfully. Group similar colors together or create a pattern for visual appeal.

Finishing Touches: Add your cheese, nuts, and seeds last, followed by a drizzle of dressing.

Creating a pretty salad is all about balancing colors, textures, and flavors. By thoughtfully selecting and arranging your ingredients, you can craft a salad that is nutritious, delicious, and a feast for the eyes. Enjoy your beautiful creation!
