immy and Lasinda Crane, owners of Cranelli’s Italian Restaurant, have built their lives around the restaurant industry. Jimmy started at a local Italian restaurant in Lakewood as a teenager and later became a chef at a Sicilian restaurant in Littleton; he built his career by moving to the Front of the restaurant with local restaurants – Bahama Breeze, P.F. Chang’s and Brio Tuscan Grille. Lasinda started her career in the restaurant industry as a server and later in management at Outback Steakhouse in Highlands Ranch; she continued on this path but at 2 local coffee shops, Peaberry Coffee and Nordstrom Ebar. After 30+ years in the industry, Jimmy and Lasinda decided to chase their dream of opening their own restaurant. After searching for a location for months, Lasinda saw a Craigslist ad for a restaurant for sale in a Lone Tree apartment complex and knew it was the perfect location upon site. The Crane family – including Lasinda’s dad who did most construction on what you see in there today -- spent five weeks cleaning and renovating the space. During the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the Crane’s opened their doors the day after Christmas and invited the community to become part of their family. Cranelli’s, which bills its food and atmosphere as ‘Italian Simplicity with a Rustic Touch’ and is known for its garlic knots

and Lasagna made fresh daily, celebrated its 5th anniversary with a private wine dinner in February. The restaurant employs nearly 50 people and provides lunch and dinner service as well as catering. “It has been a roller coaster ride, but It’s awesome when your dreams come true,” Lasinda said. The restaurant’s popularity is a result of its focus on customer service, consistency, comforting food, its dedication to the community, and perhaps most importantly, its customers. “We wouldn’t be who we are right now without them,” said Lasinda.

2. In large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium heat. Cook pork chops 4-5 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 145 F. Remove pork chops from pan and keep warm. 3. In same skillet, heat remaining oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and partially cooked bacon to skillet; cook until tender, about 3 minutes. Add chicken stock and bring to simmer. 4. Reduce heat to low and add heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. 5. Add spinach and tomatoes to sauce; let spinach wilt. Stir in Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning; simmer about 3 minutes.

True or not, summer is a magical time in Colorado, from the heights of the Rockies to the desert southwest to the urban I-25 corridor to the eastern plains. The snow and cold are a distant memory, the calendar is full of unique events and the great wilderness opens up to anybody with a pair of hiking boots. Want to make the most of your Summer? Hike to a Gorgeous Mountain Lake When John Denver sang about “the serenity of a clear blue mountain lake,” he wasn’t kidding. Slap on boots and experience one for yourself. Hike Above 14,000 Feet Only the hardiest adventurers try to conquer the state’s highest peaks in winter, but in brief summer you can stand on top of the world, usually only with a pair of hiking boots. See the Wildflowers in Crested Butte This town is so remote there’s only one road in and out in winter, but in early summer the surrounding mountains are home to one of Colorado’s loveliest wildflower displays. See them any time on your own before they wilt in August or come July 5 to 14 of 2019 for the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival.

Drive Above 14,000 Feet Colorado has more peaks above 14,000 feet than any other state, and the only two in the nation you can drive up in any old vehicle on a paved road. Mount Evans west of Denver and Pikes Peak west of Colorado Springs will let you enjoy the stunning beauty above the clouds without all the work of walking.

See Telluride This posh southwest Colorado resort town may be Colorado’s prettiest, tucked into a stunning box canyon surrounded by high peaks. You can take the free gondola to the ski resort, dine in their many restaurants, hike to waterfalls just outside of town or just watch for celebrities.

Visit Bent’s Old Fort This national historic site east of Pueblo near La Junta features a restored 1840s outpost that was a crucial link on the wagon roads to Colorado long before it was a state. It was the only permanent settlement on the Santa Fe Trail between Missouri and what was then Mexico and offers a fascinating glimpse into life when Colorado was truly the frontier.

Climb the World’s Highest Sand Dune Great Sand Dunes National Park in the San Luis Valley is a scenic wonder, dunes rising seemingly inexplicably from the valley floor, framed by the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Early summer is the best time to visit because famous Medano Creek - popular with the kids - is flowing and the sand is cool enough to hike without shoes most days.

Go to the Greeley Stampede Greeley on the northern Front Range is known for its huge cattle stockyards, so it makes sense the town’s biggest event of the year revolves around them. The Stampede features every kind of rodeo event you could imagine, from June 26 to July 7 of 2019.

Tour New Belgium Brewing This Fort Collins brewery is Colorado’s largest craft brewery and a tour is a fascinating way to gain insight into the making of the state’s favorite beverage. Tours are free and include beer samples. Be sure to book in advance at their website.

LEONARDO DA VINCI: 50 0 Y EARS OF GEN IUS Inventor, artist, scientist, anatomist, engineer, architect, sculptor, philosopher. Although Leonardo da Vinci died in 1519, his influence has endured. His extraordinary legacy comes to life in the exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci: 500 Years of Genius,” now open at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The story of Leonardo is told through a variety of experiences that illustrate why the ultimate Renaissance man remains an inspiration for the ages. Although Leonardo is one of human history’s most famous people, he left behind very few tangible examples of his studies and works. Surviving artifacts are in private collections or on permanent display in a small number of renowned museums around the world. Fortunately, the creators of this experience, Grande Exhibitions, collaborated with the Museo Leonardo da Vinci in Rome and experts from Italy and France to build Leonardo’s machine inventions and create beautiful reproductions of his paintings and his codices, which are books of notes and sketches that remain the primary insight to his genius.

Bringing Leonardo’s Concepts to Life You will be introduced to Leonardo through his codices, which Grande Exhibitions and their collaborators used as “instruction manuals” to build more than 70 machine inventions. Grande Exhibitions said the artisans “had to learn an old Florentine dialect, interpret Leonardo’s shorthand and mirror writing, and analyze his intricate drawings, sometimes laboring through page upon page of drawings of the same invention as Leonardo strove for perfection. They have scoured 6,000 pages of notes to decipher the ‘patents’ Leonardo put in his work — deliberate mistakes, misleading information and scattered ideas.”

The Secrets of Mona Lisa Leonardo was fascinated by the mechanics of the human body as well as light, shadow, and perception, which shows in his artwork. Unfortunately, much of his work is lost. Yet his painting, “Mona Lisa,” is one of the world’s most legendary works of art. An exclusive feature of the exhibition is “The Secrets of Mona Lisa,” an analysis of the iconic painting conducted at the Louvre by scientific engineer and photographer Pascal Cotte. The display includes the only 360-degree replica ever made of “Mona Lisa.”
