Dr. Jennifer Helgeson was seven years old when she knew she wanted to become a dentist. If your child has a fascination for transportation, the Denver metro area offers several options for exploring the past, present and future of getting around. The COLORADO RAILROAD MUSEUM in Golden allows visitors to stroll through a 15acre railyard with more than 100 standard and narrow-gauge steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses and a garden railway. A roundhouse restoration facility with a working turntable that transports visitors back in time, and an 1880s-replica depot museum building houses thousands of rare artifacts and a model replica of Colorado mountain railroads. Plan your visit at www.coloradorailroadmuseum.org. The 15-acre railyard is located at 17155 West 44th Avenue in Golden. The FORNEY MUSEUM OF TRANSPORTATION in Denver is a one-of-a-kind collection of more than 600 artifacts relating to historical transportation. It began 60 years ago with a single 1921 Kissel, but soon expanded to include vehicles of all kinds. Today it includes vehicles, buggies, motorcycles, steam locomotives, aircraft, carriages, rail equipment, fire apparatus, public transportation, sleighs, bicycles, toys and diecast models, vintage apparel and more. WINGS OVER THE ROCKIES AIR & SPACE MUSEUM allows visitors to explore flight. Transferred from the United States Air Force to a group of volunteers in 1994, Wings Over the Rockies is located in Hangar #1 of the former Lowry Air Force Base in eastern Denver. Today, the museum boasts more than 182,000 square feet of hangar space full of iconic aircraft, space vehicles, artifacts, military uniforms and more. Aircraft exhibits range from an F-4 Phantom to a Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter, and space exhibits include Colorado astronauts, space vehicles and an Apollo Moon rock. This unique attraction is located at 7711 East Academy Boulevard in Denver. Their website can be found at www. wingsmuseum.org and is great place to learn about upcoming events and more.
Does your child love sports? A tour of one of Denver’s professional sports venues is a fun way for the entire family to get a behind-the-scenes peek at the rarely seen areas and unique operations at MILE HIGH STADIUM and the PEPSI CENTER. The professionally guided walking tour of Mile High Stadium includes stops at the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum, NFL visiting team locker room facilities and Thunder’s stall. You’ll also be able to see the Broncos field entrance tunnel as well as press facilities. The 90-minute walking tour of the Pepsi Center allows visitors to see the Colorado Mammoth locker room, visitor locker rooms, the Nuggets practice facility, the press box and more. Coors Field also offers tours. The Denver area is home to many great parks that offer fun playgrounds and other opportunities for adventure. PHILLIP S. MILLER PARK in Castle Rock is a 300acre park that includes an events center, an outdoor amphitheater, a 200-step challenge staircase, and an interconnected trail network. A 2.5-acre Adventure Playground features a 40-foot-long slide and other play features integrated into the natural terrain. Through a public-private partnership with Castle Rock Zip Line Tours, ziplines and adventure courses are also available. The park is located at 1375 West Plum Parkway. WESTLANDS PARK in Greenwood Village is an award-winning park considered one of the top playground destinations in the metro area. The playground includes three play areas sized for toddlers to teens with large climbing structures to suit beginners through technical climbers. In addition to the main play area, there are three multi-use playing fields, a beginner skateboard area, a natural water sculpture, a pond and a hiking and biking trail. You can find this 25-acre south metro gem at 5701 South Quebec Street. Just a short drive west of Denver, you’ll find TINY TOWN where you can spend the day among kid-sized buildings, riding a steam train or playing on the playground. Built 100 years ago, the miniature city originally had 125 buildings with a grocery store, barber shop, hotel, school and church and attracted 20,000 visitors per year. Today, the town boasts about 100 buildings, a picnic area and real steam engines that take passengers on a 10-minute ride around the park. This unique destination can be found at 6249 South Turkey Creek Road in Morrison. Driving directions can be found on their website at www.tinytownrailroad.com.

Vendors will represent numerous food genres through some of our own local breweries, wineries, and distilleries, and we have a sneak peek at some of the sampling in store. If the local beer scene is your game, Frolic Brewing Company will be exhibiting at this year’s event. Chris Miser from Frolic shared, “As a local brewpub our focus is on the local community events in the area and Taste It is one of the better known and attended events in the Broomfield area. We will be sampling our best sellers Blackberry Wheat and Blood Orange IPA.” Madhoo Seth from The Gourmet Kitchen Catering commented, “Taste It is a perfect event not just for customers but for all locals here in our community. NON-PROFITS Kitchen promised to provide a unique and diverse sampling of cuisines from around the world presented in a gourmet, fusion style. Michael Rosendahl from Modern Edge Events got a little more specific sharing a very enticing Taste It menu. Modern Edge will provide a main entrée of jalapeno bacon wrapped pork tenderloin sliders with chimichurri Aioli on an egg bun that delivers “pure fire and flavor!” Rosendahl said they are planning a dessert closer that Modern Edge calls Jumbo Brownie Bombs. The house-made brownie bombs are dipped in dark Belgian chocolate rolled in every “kids” favorite toppings. To wash it all down, Rosendahl plans to bring hibiscus orangeade with hints of blood orange and jalapeno. “As we are a catering company not everyone can get a chance to taste our award-winning food. Most of the time you have to be at an event being catered to enjoy our world class cuisine. At Taste It we will share our over the top flavors and cool unique bites from Broomfield’s own nationally known catering company,” he said. “Our magazines are proud to partner with the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce on Taste It each year. Both of our organizations pride themselves on facilitating community connections and bringing people together. Taste It is a wonderful window into Broomfield’s food and beverage scene.
