TILDESLEY TENNIS

Over a Sunday and Monday in March, our Tildesley Tennis Squad played in the 102nd Tildesley Tennis tournament. Thanks to the return of spectators for both the Singles and Doubles day, the tournament was played with atmosphere and cheer that has been missing these last two years.

With the Loreto Kirribilli cheer squad made up of players, coaches and parents, nothing could dampen the spirit of the squad, with nine singles and five doubles pairings taking to the court. After our matches, we were able to reach Round 3 in both the singles and doubles, placing 15th overall, which is a wonderful result!

A special mention must go out to our departing Year 12 players who have given six years to the squad. We farewell Sophie Bencsik, Sophie Blanks, Charlotte Leete, Claire McNally, Sophia Wood and Sara Marning.

EQUESTRIAN CHAMPION

Star equestrian Tia McKenzie (Year 9) represented New South Wales at the Equestrian Australia (EA) Nationals Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships in March 2022. She was truly outstanding, winning five Championship Titles, more than any other single rider in the Nationals, helping New South Wales to win the overall National Team title. Congratulations Tia.

SAILING STAR

Lauren Tandy in Year 9 has been representing Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron since she was 13, sailing in Pacers and Elliots with the club’s Youth Squadron. She is also a valued crew member on members’ yachts. Last year in the Canberra Regatta, a competition with schools from around Australia, Lauren placed second overall. Among many other trophies and prizes, our keen sailor was awarded the RSYS Pacer Most Improved Award in at the RSYS Youth Sailing Prize Giving in 2021. Congratulations Lauren!

SERVICE TO SNOWSPORTS

Sport Coordinator, Donna Baker OAM, was recognised with a Service to Snowsport Award at the 2021 Community Sport Awards for her outstanding contributions to the snowsports' community.

The award recognises individuals in the community who have made a positive difference to the opportunities and experiences available to others over a long period of time.

Donna has held the role of NSW Interschools Events Manager in a volunteer capacity since 1987, introducing thousands of young athletes to the sport through Interschools over three decades.

Snow Australia CEO Michael Kennedy said the award was well-deserved. “Donna is one of the most dedicated and long standing volunteers in our sport. She has helped our sport grow to be what it is today.”

WARD MCAULEY CUP

Each year the highlight of our Water Polo season is an annual trophy match between Loreto Kirribilli and Monte Sant’ Angelo’s Senior First teams. Over the years the matches for the Ward McAuley Cup have been close and very hard-fought.

This year’s team, despite having only one substitute, (three of the team were isolating with COVID-19) played well and retained the trophy, winning 15-6. Our team was led by Layla Smith, and everyone in the team contributed to an excellent win. They are all great athletes. Our team has girls from Years 9-12, almost like a Circle Class team, and they have been great fun to coach.
