Reflection

T

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him. And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? Luke 10: 30‐36 (AV)

C

We give profound thanks and deep gratitude for the generosity of strangers. In the coming weeks and months as we reflect upon the enormity of the floods and “all that has been” may we be guided through prayer in our outreach “to be more, to give more and to do more”. May we remember always the lives lost and may compassion enfold our hearts.

Dear Parents and Students

A welcome return to you all, with a particular welcome to all new students, families and staff. In particular I warmly welcome the following new members of staff:

I

Ms Jessica Badke, Ms Sarah Bunting, Ms Sally Carr, Mrs Margaret Dowling, Mr Matthew Lourigan and Ms Claire Wilson. We hope and pray that their time at Loreto will be richly rewarding in every respect. We also welcome back from leave Ms Diane McGowan and Mrs Helen Radvan.

L

We welcome back, from their trip to France, staff and students and give thanks for their safe return from a bitterly cold European winter.

We offer also, to Ms Louise Tilly our congratulations and sincere best wishes on the news of her recent engagement. May this new chapter in her life be full and richly blessed.

E

Congratulations to the Class of 2010 In the coming weeks, we will offer greater detail of their achievements but suffice for now to offer them our sincere congratulations and best wishes on their wonderful results. They, their families and their teachers have every reason to feel well pleased indeed.

In brief of the 138 students: Five gained OP 1’s 26% gained OP 1 to 5 48% gained OP 1 to 10 72% gained OP 1 to 12

Of course these numbers can never, and should never, be a measure of their success; however, they do represent hardwork; application to study and a preparedness to make the most of God given gifts and opportunities.

Loreto College Coorparoo — Felicity Floods In the coming weeks I hope to work with the student leaders and staff to provide support to flood victims wherever it might most be needed. Fortunately, as a community we are aware of only a small number of Loreto families being directly affected. We have of course been in contact with these families and will work to assist them in whatever practical ways we can. However, if you are aware of any other particular needs either within our community, or elsewhere, please do not hesitate to contact us so that we might help if possible. From Loreto schools around Australia, we have been offered generous support also. They thus await our call. I offer them our heartfelt thanks for their kindness and compassion. One relatively minor consequence of the floods for us has been the outage of our internet provider (flooded city location). Thus our external email system and website have been offline since January 13. This has made communication and organisation for the start of a new year somewhat challenging, as you might well imagine. If therefore, you have sent any emails to the College in the past few weeks, please know that we may not have received them. Finally, I wish to thank you for the warmth of your welcome (despite the deluge) and to say how humbled I am by this appointment as Principal of Loreto and how delighted I am to “be back home”. I am greatly looking forward to the challenges ahead and to the opportunity of meeting you all. Yours sincerely Cheryl Hamilton Principal

Uniform We are aware that there are still difficulties with the supply of some uniform items, particularly the new sports uniform. Ys Uniform Shop hopes that these items will become available by the middle of next week. In the mean time, if Yr 8 and new students in other year levels are without a sports uniform, they may wear appropriate shorts (not too short!) and tee‐shirt, with sleeves and preferably a collar, for PE lessons. We are working to ensure that these uniform supply problems are addressed as quickly as possible and apologise for the inconvenience.

Term Dates 2011

On Tuesday, 8 February, class, individual and photos of sisters will be taken. A separate envelope will be sent home with each student to complete for class, individual or photo packs. ALL ENVELOPES NEED TO BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL ON THE PHOTO DAY 8th FEBRUARY (NOT BEFORE). If you wish to have a family photo taken, it is important to note that either you or your eldest daughter may collect a sibling photo order envelope from the College Office. Unfortunately, if envelopes are not brought on this day, orders will need to be made directly with the photographer (Advanced Photographers 3216 8280) and a late fee will need to be paid with the order. NB It is important that all students have their own completed envelope on the day of photography even if you wish to pay for more than one student in one envelope. Often order envelopes placed inside other envelopes get missed. Thank you.

Family/Medical and Consent Forms An envelope containing important forms regarding family information, medical details and various consent forms are being sent home with each student today. It is important that these forms are returned to the College by Thursday 3 February. Please note there is no need to return the Technology and Privacy Policies that are printed on caramel coloured paper. Noel Williams ‐ Business Manager

Enrolments for Year 8/7 2014 Any families who have daughters wishing to enrol for Year 8 2014 may collect an enrolment package from the College Office now. We are presently awaiting official confirmation from the Government, however for students in Year 4 in 2011 provisional application packages are also available for your daughters’ commencement in Year 7, 2014. If Year 7 entry into Secondary School is delayed until 2015 your application will transfer to Year 8 2015.
