Greetings, Texas School Counselors and Supporters,
Welcome to a new school year! We are excited to share updates for the 2022-2023 year. The Lone Star State School Counselor Association (LSSSCA) is the Texas chartered division of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
Our vision is to expand the image and influence of school counselors in our great state of Texas. Our mission is to empower school counselors with the knowledge and skills in order to promote professionalism and ethical practices by providing leadership, advocacy, and professional development. LSSSCA YEAR-IN-REVIEW 2021-22
• TSCESS- School Counselor evaluation system is listed on TEA’s Website: School Counseling - Job Description & Evaluation | Texas Education Agency -Districts who use Eduphoria/Strive -The TSCESS is available on this platform.
• LSSSCA received three national recognitions at the ASCA Conference: -Recognized as the largest membership state division of ASCA -Recognized as being an ASCA state division for five years (2017-2022) -Certified another five years as an ASCA state division (2022-2027)
• Successful in-person annual conference in November 2021 -Over 1400 participants
• LSSSCA School Counselor of the Year was a national finalist -She was recognized in Washington, DC, at the ASCA national Gala Award ceremony.
• STAR Ambassador Program - Successful inaugural program for student interns.
• Quaver Cohort Program - Successful collaboration for our members to experience Quaver for free.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE
An opportunity for school counselors to learn, grow and network with other school counselors across the state. This conference allows school counselors to obtain new knowledge and skills early in the school year in order for them to go back to their school to implement immediately.

FIRST RURAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR CONFERENCE
The LSSSCA Rural Route - A virtual experience.This is an opportunity for lone ranger school counselors to connect and learn for their unique position. This is a great follow-up from the LSSSCA conference. Please join us Saturday, February 5, 2023. (New)

Both ASCA and Texas Models are comprehensive school counseling programs. Our design is ASCA based and school counselors in Texas must include certain components of the Texas Model. This side by side document allows you to see the correlation between the two models.

AWARDS & PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Lone Star Awards
Lone Star Awards recognize effective and outstanding school counseling programs. This process also prepares school counselors to apply for the national ASCA RAMP award. Following this process helps school counselors with the implementation of an effective and data driven school counseling program.
Lone Star School Counselor of the Year

The Lone Star State School Counselor Association (LSSSCA) School Counselor of the Year (SCOY) Award honors outstanding professional school counselors in Texas. Through an extensive outreach process, school counselors, teachers, administrators, and others are encouraged to nominate professional school counselors who run exemplary school counseling programs.
