Hopnieuws More than just electrical engineering The publication before you is our new in-house maga zine, Hopnieuws (formerly Elektroview). We introduced our name change at the start of this year: Hoppenbrouwers Techniek. The growth and developments within our business have meant that we now do more than just electrical engineering. The takeover of Sebregts, in February means that we can now describe ourselves as all-round installation engineers, thereby offering our clients the possibility of working with a single main contractor within a construction project, for all technical installations. This in turn makes it possible to work even more smartly and more efficiently with our chain partners, giving more meaning to the principles of lean production and sustainable building. Despite our growth, we aim to continue to keep you informed and remain in contact with you. We wish you much reading pleasure and look forward to seeing you at one of our theme sessions.

Did you know that … … Roel Hoosemans joined the board of directors of Hoppenbrouwers as Director for Water, on 1 April? … Hoppenbrouwers is now an approved Zonnekeur solar label installer? … the amendments to the Building Decree 2012 will have consequences for your fire alarm installation? (Read all about it on our website) … in advance of our annual BBQ (18 June next) we will be organising a series of theme sessions? Why not join us for a session about Lean, Solar power, NEN3140, Fire safety, Machine safety or BREEAM. Register for any of our events via www.hopppenbrouwerstechniek.nl

Hoppenbrouwers’ name flashes over the finishing line at Paris-Roubaix On Friday 27 February last, TWC Pijnenburg opened the new cycle racing season with the annual team presentation at our location. With around 200 members, TWC Pijnenburg is one of the largest youth team cycling associations in the Netherlands. Mark Olieslager, who in his second year as chairman of the association, attended for the first time described the happening as fantastic. “I was amazed by the fabulous space and location provided by our main sponsor Hoppenbrouwers, where there was room to welcome all our visitors.

Bram Welten wins Paris-Roubaix for juniors

The team presentation is the official start of the new cycling season, where the team members are presented to parents and media. The new sponsors and club clothing are announced at the event, and the prizes from the previous season are presented. Expectations for the team for the coming season are very positive, with the probability of a number of podium positions during the Dutch Championships. We of course hope that the name Hoppenbrouwers will cross the finishing line first, on as many occasions as possible.”

A sustainable meeting centre for Rabobank Tilburg and district

Nicole Bockting-Driessen

Nicole Bockting-Driessen, Sr. Project Manager at Rabobank Tilburg and district is involved with financial services projects, every day. “In 2011, I was set the task of renovating Rabobank Tilburg and district, a project that was to be realised as a sustainable meeting centre. After three long years of preparation, and just under one year of actual renovation work, the project was finally handed over in February 2015.

Sustainable building Sustainability is a high priority at Rabobank. Also in terms of financing, we encourage our customers to demonstrate corporate social responsibility. It was therefore our clear ambition at the start of this project to convert our consultancy centre on the Spoorlaan into a sustainable meeting centre. Together with construction management consultant Carl van Sinten from Bouw accent, we were the focal point in the design team, and during execution. In the framework of sustainability, we opted for renovation rather than new building, to ensure the reuse of existing materials. The materials selected for reuse all had a sustainable character, for example the varieties of wood chosen, and the water saving toilets, the insulation and of course LED lighting throughout the building.

BREEAM Excellent During the renovation, we called in a sustainability consultant. To ensure a clear record of our ambitions, the entire renovation project was undertaken according to the BREEAM method. The design certificate ‘very good ***’ (already a demanding target for a renovation project) was taken

as our starting point. During the design phase we actually achieved the BREEAM ‘Excellent ****’ score. This exceeded our expectations, and led to a desire to achieve even more. Our aim became to retain four-star status. The number of credits that will be awarded following completion still have to be assessed, at which point the DGBC will pass final judgement, and issue a certificate. This is expected to take place somewhere towards the end of the second quarter, so it is an exciting time for us.

Energy-efficient Hoppenbrouwers won the order for the electrical engineering and restructuring of the existing premises with the overall objective of delivering a sustainable, energy-efficient and futureproof building, according to the BREEAM requirements. The LED lines and lighting that have now been installed represent a huge improvement. Many rooms now use movement sensors and daylight regulators. In both these areas, huge energy savings could be achieved, and the way in which Hoppenbrouwers offered advice was experienced as pleasant. The decision was also taken to achieve a

particular EPC value, essential according to the BREEAM requirements. On that basis, we opted for 125 m2 of solar panels, also installed by Hoppenbrouwers.

One-stop shopping This renovation project makes us a one-stop shop. Our building is now equipped for new working with flexible workstations. There are a variety

of different areas that offer opportunities for working and meetings. We moved into the new building in March 2015, and everyone is delighted to have been brought back together, so we can now welcome our customers in our own premises.

Collaboration with Hoppenbrouwers Cooperation with Hoppenbrouwers as main contractor for all electrical engineering applications proved extremely smooth. In any renovation you know you are likely to come up against unexpected situations. Hop-

penbrouwers responded extremely flexible, and demonstrated clear forward thinking and rapid response, also in terms of lean planning. The result was a minimum time loss for discussions or project finishing. I will certainly recommend Hoppenbrouwers as a contractor for other Rabobank projects. I am excited to see what the introduction of the new mechanical installation division will mean for the business. As a potential client, I certainly see advantages in this expansion in terms of a single partner for both electrical and mechanical installation.”

Another sustainable project is the new Faxx building in Tilburg. Here too the electrical engineering and security installations were completed in line with the BREEAM excellent guidelines. Thanks to tight lean planning, the office building was handed over in February 2015.

‘We take (machine) safety seriously’ Van Geloven offers its customers a range of delicious, high-quality, responsible snack products. The Ad van Geloven meat croquette, the Van Lieshout minced meat sausage, the Welten Bami Oriental noodle patty, the Burgundy meat croquette and the Mora crunchy chicken croquette are market favourites. Van Geloven operates four factories in the Netherlands, and employs more than 1,000 staff. The head office is based in Tilburg. Albert van der Vliet, Head of the technical department at Van Geloven in Tilburg, together with his team, makes sure that the installations, process equipment, machines and production lines operate perfectly, every day, and that the building remains well maintained.

Vision on safety “Safety is a key aspect in our produc-

tion process, and one we take extremely seriously. We take absolutely no risks; in case of doubt, we immediately halt production. We instructed Hoppenbrouwers to carry out a risk stocktaking for the entire machine fleet, to ensure that we comply with all the legal requirements. Any major bottlenecks that emerged in our machine fleet were immediately corrected. We replaced machines and adapted systems in line with the Use of Work Equipment Directive (2009/104/ EC) and where necessary in accor-

dance with the Machines Directive (2006/42/ED). A safe working environment is essential to our staff.

Installationresponsible officer and NEN 3140 standard Anton van Mensfoort, Project Manager at Hoppenbrouwers, is our installation-responsible officer, and he visits every six weeks to check out the changes in the factory and to assess the consequences for the electrical installation. Any points for attention he identifies are immediately tackled. Thanks to these periodic inspections of our electrical installation, we continue to comply with the NEN3140 standard.

Ragout tray stacker Hoppenbrouwers recently contributed to the ‘stacker’ project for the production of ragout. We purchased this tray stacker second-hand. Following disassembly, the stacker was overh auled and modified to meet our wishes and requirements. Hoppenbrouwers took care of modifying the control system and ensured that it once again complied with the NEN 60204-1 standard, the standard for electrical machine safety. Manual stacking was previously a cumber-

some and repetitive task. The automatic stacker now improves the ergonomic working conditions for our staff, and saves on costs. We have been collaborating with Hoppenbrouwers for many years, to our full satisfaction. They think carefully in advance about the method to be employed and actual project implementation. Thanks to a single permanent point of contact, we have become used to one another, and Hoppenbrouwers knows exactly what we need.”

350 colleagues follow Lean training The key to success in Lean working lies in adding value and eradicating waste from the process. Toon Vereecken, Project coordinator at Hoppenbrouwers explained, “Both internally and externally, we are constantly working to improve processes. Traditionally, planning is often poorly harmonised. Communication is often via the main contractor, and communication processes are laid down by the same contact person. As a result, other parties never have direct contact and that has negative consequences for cooperation and planning. Our experience is that Lean working is far more efficient, and considerably shortens the lead time. A lean process however can only be achieved if there is daily communication be tween the construction partners, in

which everyone can make their own contribution. Only then Lean is really Lean. The majority of people are programmed to do what people or companies in authority ask of them. If everyone took five minutes a day to ask themselves whether things can be done differently, huge gains could be achieved. However, this awareness must first be awakened in people, before they take real action.

personnel, but is it not also possible to make changes to the process, to increase work efficiency? By having every member of staff follow internal Lean training, we can ensure that staff think more deliberately about waste and added value, within their day to day working practice. For us, that is the added value of Lean.”

Everyone attends Lean training Within Hoppenbrouwers we have recognised that we have been growing rapidly, particularly over the last few years. There is one question we keep asking ourselves: How can we maintain maximum growth with the same levels of staffing? The solution most commonly sought is to introduce new

Daily confrontation with patients leads to participation in Roparun 2015

Let’s take part in the Roparun! This idea was put forward by a group of active employees who were confronted on a daily basis with patients at the St. Elisabeth-Tweesteden hospital, and wanted to do their bit for society. By taking part in this relay race over a distance of more than 500 kilometres, these sportsmen and women were able to collect money for people with cancer. As Jolanda van Eijden explained, “Year in year out, the Roparun is underestimated. The event, held during the Whitsun weekend, and lasting 48 hours, demands considerable energy and effort from our people, also during the preparations. We collect

money in a number of different ways.” Mark Dankers continued, “As well as selling deep-fried dumplings, sausage rolls and Easter eggs, the event of course also needs sponsors. In addition to the costs of taking part in the

Roparun itself, we also have other expenses. Hoppenbrouwers is our main sponsor, and they contribute ideas for boosting income from the sales activities. During the oliebol and Easter egg campaigns, for example, they made available an Efteling Bosrijk ar-

rangement, thereby boosting sales. In total, more than 10,000 deep-fried dumplings were sold, and 300 kg of Easter eggs.” Jolanda van Eijden continued, “Taking part in the Roparun is a unique experience. From the start of preparations

through to reaching the finishline, the Roparun passes in a sort of dreamlike state. There are emotional moments, combined with teambuilding. We are proud of what we have achie ved as a team.”

How can we possibly separate married couples in old age? For some time now, Roozen van Hoppe has been recognised as an approved area developer within the Brabant region. Over the past few years, the company has created a series of business premises, and is active in a number of different development projects, for a variety of sectors.

Residential landscape At present, work is underway to ensure that the Leyhoeve Residential Landscape is ready to open its doors at the end of the year. Leyhoeve offers elderly residents the possibility of enjoying a pleasant old age, together. The complex, comprising 200

luxury apartments and 85 care suites, is currently being built along the Kempenbaan in Tilburg. Hendrik Roozen, owner of Roozen van Hoppe, described how the idea of ‘growing old together’ came to him, from his own personal experience. “Among my nearest and dearest, I saw how mar-

ried couples were separated in their later years. This happened when one of them experienced personal setbacks, leaving the other behind, and alone. Even in a wealthy country like the Netherlands, it appears to be impossible for elderly people to grow old, together, in comfort, if one of the partners can no longer be cared for at home. For me, this seemed strange. The Leyhoeve project was started based on that perspective. The aim is to allow elderly people to grow old together in the most comfortable manner possible, within a welcoming and safe environment; and that is possible within the Leyhoeve Residential Landscape.”

Apartments with care There is a choice of different apartment types, and you can compile your own care package. Each apartment is equipped in such a way that it can be simply adapted into an environment in which (demanding) home care can be provided. With a range of facilities and services, including 1500 m2 of hospitality facilities, a swimming pool, shop and pedicurist/

beauty specialist, a residential environment has been created that fulfils every conceivable need. The project on the Kempenbaan is on schedule. The highest point of the building work was recently reached. Collaboration with construction partner Hoppenbrouwers is viewed as highly positive. “This is the first time we have collaborated with Hoppenbrouwers. Their project approach is excellent, is effective for all parties involved, and is right on the ball,” suggested Hendrik.
