JUL - SEP 2008

Hello Lockwood! I hope this finds you all doing great. The year is flying by and we’re all so busy, but we need to take time to make connections and hopefully, this newsletter will help us to do just that. In this edition, Mike Lockwood, President, shares his thoughts and news. Tom Lockwood, Vice President, writes a piece entitled “Paper China”. We would like to extend a special “thank you” to some of our clients who were kind enough to share some unbelievable project pictures with us. They might help put into perspective the magnitude of projects that Lockwood is involved in. Our Branch Spotlight is on Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Tim Yon and crew share some insight and history. Thank you, Tim, for contributing such a nice story. As usual, a warm hello to our newest team members, a shout-out for birthdays, births, and engagements/marriages, the tenure section, and a look back in “Time Goes By”. Thank you for story contributions by employees - please let them know that you read their story. Thank you for all the participation in putting out this quarter’s newsletter. Let’s keep that momentum going. If you want to read about your department or Baton Rouge, the second Lockwood branch outside of Houston to open, following Edmonton... Tim Yon wrote branch send us a story, make some news, do the following article about his branch and his people: some bragging. We’d love to hear from you.

BATON ROUGE

BRANCH SPOTLIGHT-

The Baton Rouge Branch recently reached its seven year anniversary. The branch was established in June 2001 when Mike Lockwood leased a 20,000 sq. foot warehouse building, hired Tim Yon and Baton Rouge was “off to the valve races”. Tim promptly hired his first two choices … Paula Crawford for Sales, for both Exxon and non-Exxon, and Louis Dixon as the warehouse manager. In August, after a brief orientation and training period and setting up and stocking the warehouse, the branch began to service ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge complex that consists of Exxon’s second largest refinery (second to Baytown), a chemical plant, and AR plastics, resins and olefins LA MS facilities. TX Baton Rouge One of the Gulf of Mexico characteristics of the Baton Rouge Branch that one cannot help noticing is the stability and continuity of its staff. Paula, Louis and Tim have been continued Page 8 - “Baton Rouge”

CHANGE

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”

Learn to embrace change, and you’ll begin to recognize that life is in constant motion, and every change happens for a reason. When you see boundaries as opportunities, the world becomes a limitless place, and your life becomes a journey of change that always finds its way.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Our company is certainly undergoing dramatic changes. In the last two years our company has doubled in size and we will double again over the next two years. This exponential growth at this rapid rate presents tremendous growth opportunities for over 250 employees (and counting). All of our branches are flourishing and we are opening several new locations. Anyone looking for a change in scenery, please discuss the possibilities with Darlene Garza in Human Resources and your respective manager. One of the changes that I am most proud of is the promotion of June Yonkman to Vice President, Commercial Manager. June’s hard work and dedication have been instrumental in our growth and her leadership will be even more valuable as we continue to build our company. Please share with me as we applaud June’s new position and a job well done. ...Mike Lockwood

LOCKWOOD international international Need-to-know News Business According to June Our company is packed full with excitement this year. We are growing at lightening speed. New branches are opening in Europe, Singapore, and the Middle June Yonkman, Vice President , East. Every branch is growing and adding Commercial Manager new positions and departments. One of our most exciting new departments in Corporate Houston is the Marketing Group. They are very busy developing a new web site, new brochures, promotional items, and many other tools to help promote our company, people, and products. Take the opportunity to stop by and meet them when you get a chance.

Regards, June Yonkman

Chief Financial Officer Betty Allen (CFO) took a few precious moments to share her departmental happenings with us. All branch acquisitions and renovations require her involvement and she has been very busy indeed. In Houston, the Maintenance Department has been spending time at the new property on Bennington Road (about 5 miles from Houston Corporate Headquarters). The facility has about 3,000 sq. ft. of office and over 90,000 in warehouse space. Renovations will begin shortly and should Betty Allen be ready for occupancy before year end. Chief Financial Officer July 15, Building B at Houston Corporate Headquarters will be completed and ready for occupancy barring delays. Betty is excited about Lockwood’s success-past, present and future. She says its always a good idea to save a nickel or two for a rainy day, but we should all be proud of what we are growing here at Lockwood, and appreciate the success.

South Africa News: Written by Vince Pittman Lockwood South Africa has been nominated as one of the top emerging “Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment” (BBBEE) companies of 2008, in the small business sector. The nomination is in recognition of our participation and excellence in the different pillars of BBBEE. We are especially proud of our progression and recognition in this area, as it means that someone in our industry has recognized our efforts. Full credit for this nomination and our success in Black Economic Employment goes to our department lead and compliance officer, Kim Paul. Our participation in BBBEE is important for two reasons: 1) it shows Lockwood’s dedication and willingness to improve the lives of our employees and their communities, and 2) it is an integral part of the qualification process in reviewing our ability to participate in Capital Projects. Let’s all give a hand to Kim and the employees of Lockwood South Africa for their efforts and hard work.

Business Brief: Proudly, Lockwood International, Inc. was recently invited to become BBB accredited in the Greater Houston, TX area. The BBB (Better Business Bureau) is a U.S. Organization whose purpose is to act as a mutually trusted intermediary between consumers and businesses to resolve disputes, to facilitate communication, and to provide information on ethical business practices. We encourage all branches who are invited to take the time to complete the application process. Page 3

PAPER CHINA

written by Tom Lockwood

I wanted to write to my co-workers about China, and how it is affecting our lives, not only personally, but professionally. On a personal level we are able to purchase a variety of goods very inexpensively. China has saved all of us money. On the flip side China is the world’s largest polluter, has a poor human rights record, and is just not the world’s best citizen. For example, if you took the 20 most polluted cities in the world, 12 are in China and this number is growing. What a challenge for the Western World - stop buying from China until they address their global issues or just continue to reap the benefits of low cost goods. To date the low cost goods are winning. And that is our challenge in the valve business today. All end users claim they do not want Chinese valves, but they certainly want to entertain the lowest bid. Currently, all end users are buying Chinese valves in some capacity, and they still have a hard time admitting this. So, the challenge is how do you compete and supply quality products? Especially when one end user may approve a manufacturing facility and others do not. What about when an end user approves a mill for alloy materials and no one else does. Do you quote that product to that end user or go with a known product? As a visitor to China on many occasions I can tell you the range of quality from factory to factory is huge. The other problem is the level of experience of the auditors is very broad as well. In short, you have huge discrepancies on what is a high quality product, what is the level of consistency, and what is the manufacturing range. And unfortunately the auditor may not be qualified to make that decision, but as an end user’s representative, he has to make some decision, so the end result is inconsistency among the end users. As for Lockwood, Neway is the premier valve company in China. They have their issues like any company, but for class 150 & 300, WCB valves they are solid. TY-China is also a good facility, but with all Korean components, less the castings, they are not as competitive as a 100 percent Chinese valve. The big question is how do you know you are selling a quality product? Fortunately, we have an excellent technical team that could rival any end user’s team of experts on qualifying a valve factory. Benny Howard, who is our Quality Manger and audited 50+ valve factories for Dow Chemical, prior to retirement, has a wealth of knowledge in valve manufacturing. Barrie Kirkman who retired from BP as their valve expert for downstream is perfect for China. The arrogance of the British comes out of Barrie while in China, and he makes it very clear to the Chinese what they need to do. A trip to China without Barrie is rather boring to say the least. Then there is KJ Lee who ran TY for 30 years. As you all have probably noticed by now we rarely have a casting issue with TY. KJ’s knowledge of foundry work is invaluable in China. So, with these gentleman performing the audits, making recommendations, and following up on a regular basis, I see no major problems for us with China. That is not to say we can just enter orders and wait for shipments, we have to constantly monitor China, but I think we have a good handle on what we are currently buying. The next challenge is with 4000 valve factories in China, there is always a better price.

...ACCORDING TO RENEE

written by Renee Roberts

I spent the week of June 9th thru the 13th at our Chicago branch for training in the Aplus/AS400. It was a pleasure working with all of them. Chicago consists of 6 people-Matt Cassidy & Anne Vickery (outside sales), Cathy Erickson is the branch manager with Gwen Jepsen as sales assistant, and the warehouse consists of Bill Nothos and Tom Sievert. We worked on the basics of AS400, order entry, special order processing, special order transfers, etc. It went very well. Thank you Chicago for making me feel so welcome! I will be in California the week of July 14th thru the 18th for training with our branch there.

Judy Collier, Facilities Manager reports on her departmental news..... Matt Cassidy is excited about renovations in the Chicago facility, which Judy is orchestrating. A contractor will be selected within the next couple of weeks and construction will begin shortly. Offices will be added as well as revamping the kitchen and bathrooms. Be sure to send pictures when its finished Matt!!! New property (approx. 5 acres) has been purchased in Port Arthur, TX near Beaumont where plans to build an 52,000 sq. ft. Warehouse and 4,000 sq. ft. office space are underway. The project should be complete in seven or eight months, barring delays. Doug Diefendorf is recovering from injuries from a motorcycle accident on Wallisville Road about three weeks ago. Speedy recovery Doug, and that is a good reminder to all to not only be careful, but drive like the other guy isn’t (being careful). Daniel Trevino joins Judy’s group in the Maintenance Department as part of our maintenance crew. Judy’s plans include visiting all branches this year to evaluate their needs to begin implementing improvements. Page 4

The new branch is being built in Port Arthur, Texas, expanding the building size by six fold. With the recent personnel additions, the Branch is capable of servicing the existing MRO accounts and future Capital Projects in the East Texas/Southwest Louisiana region.” The picture is of the recent Open House/Crawfish Boil and is of all Beaumont personnel except Perry Henderson and Dennise Becnel.

L O C K W O O D S A R N I A - written by Ruth Boyling Hello from sunny Sarnia: For those of you that don’t know where we are in the world, Sarnia sits at the bottom of Lake Huron at the mouth of the St. Clair River, that runs down towards Detroit into Lake Erie. We are a border crossing into the U.S.A. at the town of Port Huron. Because we are on the Great Lakes we have lots of fun things to do here in Sarnia. There are the beaches, parks, fishing or you can just drive down to the lake or river to watch enormous barges and boats of all kinds cruising in and out the lake. Just last weekend, the “Tall Ships” came in for all to see. We are especially lucky this time of year as us Canadians have our Canada Day on July 1st with it’s many celebrations and fireworks. Then we get to go down to the river and watch the fireworks on the Port Huron side on July 4th. Next month will be the motor boat races, from sail boats to cigar boats, there is lots to enjoy here in Sarnia. We would like to say “Hi” from the Sarnia Branch crew and we have finally got our photo spread for you all. Now you can put our names to our handsome faces. Have a great summer wherever you are!

CALIFORNIA NEWS - Cliff Houk As with all branches, Carson is chasing new customers and opportunities. We are actively recruiting sales personnel. Page 5

continued - BATON ROUGE international LOCKWOOD Baton Rouge - continued BRANCH SPOTLIGHTBaton Rouge, the second Lockwood branch outside of Houston to open, following Edmonton... Tim Yon wrote the following article about his branch and his people:

front left - Kathy Bryant, Paula Crawford (back) left to right - Blaine Ferryman, Tim Ezell, Tim Yon.

In August, after a brief orientation and training period and setting up and stocking the warehouse, the branch began to service ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge complex that consists of Exxon’s second largest refinery (second to Baytown), a chemical plant, and plastics, resins and olefins facilities. One of the characteristics of the Baton Rouge Branch that one cannot help noticing is the stability and continuity of its staff. Paula, Louis and Tim have been on board since day 1. Kathy Bryant and Anthony Anderson joined the company one year later. All five are still “on the team”. Edmonton’s Ryan

Hehr transferred to Baton Rouge in 2003 and suffered through the heat and humidity for three years before surrendering and returning to the cooler temperatures of Edmonton in 2006. Baton Rouge receives many compliments from its customers and visitors on its orderly clean warehouse which is anchored by Louis Dixon and Anthony Anderson. When not wearing the Lockwood “uniform”, Louis is busy as the Praise Leader at his church, the Prevailing Word Christian Center in Morganza, Louisiana. Louis’s engaging smile is the first thing worshippers see when arriving on Sunday morning. The worship service begins with Louis and his baritone Barrie White like voice leading or performing the opening hymns. In his spare time, Louis fabricates barbeque pits. Anthony is equally active in his church, the Full Gospel UPC where he teaches youth group Sunday School to 11 – 13 year olds. Anthony also coaches youth football in Baton Rouge’s park and recreation league. Including having patience with 11 and 12 year old players, Anthony’s successful high school football career adds to his coaching credentials. Scoring three touchdowns on From left - Anthony Anderson, Louis Dixon homecoming night of his senior year at Brusly High School is a Background - 67’ Pontiac GTO personal highlight. (Anthony surely enjoyed being the star of the game at the homecoming dance that night.) The branch remained in the leased location for three years before purchasing a 15,000 square foot building one-half mile down the street. The newly acquired building had previously been utilized as an indoor batting cage and baseball instruction facility complete with lighted field to the rear of the building. After renovations inside the warehouse and addition of office space, the branch relocated to the new facility at the end of 2004. For those of you who have detected similar sounding voices when calling Baton Rouge, you may be interested to know there’s a reason: Paula Crawford and Kathy Bryant are sisters … you’ll have to ask one of them which is the older. Paula and Kathy also worked together at Zidell before joining Lockwood. Coincidentally Paula and Kathy’s dad, Jake Pequet, retired from Exxon Purchasing in the mid 1980’s. 1 . I dreamed that I was fired, so I didn’t want to get out of bed. 2 . A raccoon stole my work boots off my porch. 3 . I wasn’t thinking and accidentally went to my old job. 4 . I didn’t have money for gas because all of the pawn shops were closed. 5 . I just wasn’t “feelin’ it” this morning. Thank you all for your efforts to be on time and responsible!
