FPSO Floating Production, Storage and Offloading ...a mobile production and storage facility used in shallow, deepwaters and ultradeep waters to process and store gas or oil that has been recovered from nearby platforms. Periodically, product will be offloaded to a tanker or moved to a pipeline. There are two kinds: “purpose built” and “conversion floaters” (made from decommissioned oil tankers). They can take several years to build and can cost millions or even billions of dollars. They are cost effective because they have a life of 20-35 years and can move away from hurricanes to avoid damage. Operators: Petrobras, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, BP, Texaco, Conoco, and more. Where: They are predominantly used in the North Sea, Brazil Seas, Southeast Asian/South China Seas, the Mediterranean Sea, Australia Seas, and off the West Coast of Africa. FPSOs can operate in water depths of a mere 42 ft. - 2,400 ft. They can have a storage capacity of 2,000,000 barrels and produce 200,000 barrels per day. There are roughly 80 FPSO’s in operation currently but there are orders and designs for over one hundred additional units. Besides FPSO’s, there are FPS (Floating Production Systems), FSU (Floating Storage Units) FLNG (Floating Liquid Natural Gas) and now FDPSO (Floating Drilling Production Storage and Offloading), the world’s first is being developed for Republic of Congo offshore. FYI: Currrently, the world’s largest FPSO is ExxonMobil’s Kizomba A, and has a capacity of 2.2 million barrels and operates in 4,000 ft of water offshore from Angola, West Africa.

Hello, Lockwood!

The mercury is definitely rising. One word describes summertime in Houston... “HOT”. The same word can describe the current business climate. The recession has brought with it new opportunities and challenges but Lockwood isn’t even breaking a sweat. In this edition we visit with Project Manager of NCP, Jimmy Kotch. Chicago is up in the Branch Spotlight time line. Of course, we hear from Corporate and the branches and have mention of birthdays and tenure. Lockwood has done well at stoking the fire by picking up new business and stepping up our game in customer service. Let’s keep that fire burning!

“He who would do some great and lasting thing with this short and fleeting life we have, must apply himself to the work with such a bold concentration and persistent focus of his entire life force that - at least to the fitfully distracted or comfortably idle spectators, who live only to protect or amuse themselves - it looks like total insanity.” ~John Foster~

“It is interesting to notice how some amazing souls seem almost to create and re-create themselves, springing up again and again under every disadvantage and impossibility, and working their solitary but irresistible way through a thousand obstacles to answer their calling and fulfill their destiny.” ~Washington Irving~

W

e are in the midst of a wonderful, exuberant period of growth. Through the difficult and swift economic changes that we have encountered, tremendous opportunities have blossomed. Many new clients have sprung forward in search of a more reliable, efficient supply chain. New suppliers have opened up supply channels with us in search of improved technical sales expertise. Finally new market segments have developed both domestically and internationally. The restructuring moves and debt reduction program that was put in place at the end of 2008 have allowed us to be the low cost, as well as, the most technically proficient supplier in the industry. The combination of a low cost operation coupled with world class manufacturing partners has allowed us to offer the most effective supply package of goods and services throughout the industry. Our metamorphosis has not been without some level of pain and anxiety. The pain has come in the form of long hours and hard work. The anxiety has been exhibited in trying to accommodate the expectations of the market. Through all of these activities and discussions we have continued to maintain a healthy relationship with our vendors, clients, and within our own ranks. For this, I am extremely grateful to all of our staff for these accomplishments and look forward to the second half of the year.

Thank you, Mike Lockwood

Any company is only as good as its people. Over the past few months I have observed Lockwood to be a company that is very strong, unique and versatile. We are made of truly dedicated, caring and hard working people. By continuing to nurture those qualities and making good decisions we improve our chances for success—today and tomorrow. As we enter the second half of 2009 we must remain diligent in our focus of excellence in all that we do. By working toward building one strong team as opposed to separate units, we increase overall company strength. By doing that, we can remain nimble and able to react in these ever changing financial times. Sincerely,

Frank Lockwood Foundation

Out of the generosity of the Lockwood family the Frank Lockwood Foundation and accompanying committee has officially been formed. Its purpose is simple—to give back, in the name of Frank Lockwood. The committee members include: Pam Moore (Procurement Ext. 5044), Darlene Garza (HR Ext. 5615), Margaret Graff (Payroll Ext. 5669) and Laura Fitzgerald (Marketing Ext. 5633).

The responsibility of this committee is to receive donation requests from Lockwood employees. We are still laying the groundwork as far as guidelines but in a nutshell, if you have a cause, talk to one of the committee members. They’ll let you know what is available and how to proceed. A very big “THANK YOU” to the Lockwood family!

SALES

Bobby Mauldin Sales Manager Lockwood International, Inc.

by Bobby Mauldin

Has the “financial groundhog” failed to see his shadow? Could we be on the cusp of better times? Oil prices have increased and we hope that this brings the news of new work on the horizon. The world market is changing, let’s hope that it is changing for the better and continues to trend upward. I would love nothing better to write in the next issue about how busy we have been, and to highlight all of the new work we have. I know that we all have challenging jobs, we are all guilty, at one time or another, of complaining

about a particular job, vendor, coworker or customer that sometimes assist in the challenge. We may characterize them as difficult, but think about it… most people are more “different” than they are “difficult”. No matter how “different” most people are, you know that you´ve got to master working with all types of people exhibiting all types of behaviors. We are a customer service driven company. Defining the “difference” will point out the distinction between merely wishing you were successful and being successful, at work and in life.

NCP National Chevron Phillips Project Manager:

Jimmy Kotch

We caught up with a very busy Jimmy Kotch to find out a bit about the NCP Project that he has been working on for the past year. The project is a joint venture between Saudi Industrial Investment Group and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. It is located in Al-Jubail in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is a Petrochemical Plant (olefins cracker producing ethylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and 1 Hexane) which should be operational by late 2011. Valves have been purchased through Worley Parsons (Houston), JGC (Japan), and Daelim (South Korea). Jimmy had the opportunity to travel to Japan to attend JGC’s project kickoff meeting, and Lockwood also hosted a project kickoff meeting in May 2008. He also traveled to Mexico to the Photos taken from: http://www.chemicals-technology.com/projects/nationalchevron/

Warehouse Team: Caesar Malacara, Rafael Danas, Daniel Galvan, & Damien Turknett (not pictured)

Based in The Woodlands, Texas, “Chevron Phillips Chemical is one of the world’s top producers of olefins and polyolefins and a leading supplier of aromatics, alpha olefins, styrenics, speciality chemicals, piping, and properitary plastics.”

Keystone Butterfly factory for inspections. Of that trip, he says it was a “sea of robotic machines” in a true assembly line. Lockwood people contributing on this project include Lana Jones-Project Coordinator, Cesar Malacara, Rafael Danas, Daniel Galvan and Damien Turknett-warehouse team, Mr. Lee and Victor-Export Packing, and Laura Davis-Documentation. Export Packing has been kept very busy by this project (Mr. Lee & Victor ) preparing for crating of 8,800 forged valves. Jimmy estimates this project to take his team through the end of 2009. “The product needs on this project have been mostly commodity”, but Jimmy further states “over one hundred pieces of resilient seated butterfly valves (30”-60” sizes) were purchased. As well as numerous pieces of dual plate checks (42” - 54”), “you don’t see that everyday”, Jimmy says.

• Olefin: a synthetic fiber found in clothing, upholstery, carpeting, etc. It is also known as polypropylene or polyethylene and is manufactured under other registered names: such as Tyvek® ( DuPont®), Thinsulate® (3M®) and Duraguard® (Kimberly-Clark®). It is very durable and relatively environmentally friendly as it is easily recycled and produces relatively few byproducts during manufacturing. • Polyolefins: A type of olefin. The term “polyolefins” means “oil-like” and refers to the oily or waxy feel. • Aromatics: Gets its name from the way it smells. Made from mostly crude and coal. Found in clothing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, computers, paints, etc. Products made with aromatics can be lightweight and compact thus can reduce energy consumption. • Ethylene: unsaturdated hydrocarbon (aka olefin). It is the most produced organic compound in the world. • Propylene: also unsaturated hydrocarbon. Colourless, odorless gas. • Polystyrene: aka “PS”. Is a liquid hydrocarbon that is manufactured from petroleum. Most widely used in plastics (i.e., CD cases, disposable cutlery, etc.). Styorofoam is made from a type of polystyrene. information obtained from wikipedia.com • Hexene: higher olefin which is used in the production of polythene. 5

MRO

by Cindy Williams

It is interesting that in this economic slowdown, MRO is as busy as ever. Between supplying the customers who are using this time to retool and repair sites, and between bidding and winning over new customers, we constantly have many things on our plates. So, I wanted to take a moment to focus on Customer Service. When I started at Lockwood, I was impressed at how seriously this philosophy was taken. Every bid we place includes comments from Mike such as, “We expect 100% on time service, defect free,” “By having ample material on hand, we can focus on service and assistance,” and “The right job, done right, the first time.” Lockwood has built a strong reputation for service, and our customers have responded by relying on us to supply their needs. As the pace and the economic stressors increase, as

CHARLOTTE Hello, from the East Coast!

by Derek Reavis

This is a great time for opportunities and Lockwood International Charlotte. The downturn in the economy offers us new opportunities that we are using to help open doors for new business here on the East Coast. Terry and the team are doing a great job and are as busy as ever. We’ve landed projects with Fluor (Power), Chemtex (LNG) and Bechtel (Power) over the last several months. Ed and I have been working diligently with all the EP&Cs to insure Lockwood sees every opportunity and that they truly understand the value of quality, knowledge and service that we offer. Last month we participated in Fluor’s Golf for Greenville tournament and Trade Show which gained us greater exposure. The tournament raised over $200k for local charities. COAL-GEN is coming to Charlotte in August and will afford us a great opportunity to visit with End-Users (our primary focus for the future) not only on the East Coast, but throughout the U.S. The Nuclear Power market is heating up and many of the key players are located here and others have recently relocated in the Charlotte area. Like I said – It’s a great time to work for Lockwood. Come see us!

A global team effort by Lockwood allowed us to welcome Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. as a new client. Ed Maier (New Jersey), Cliff Houk (California), Luca Radrizzani (Quotations), Vince Pittman (Singapore), Giovanni Capasso (Italy), Dave MacKay (UK), as well as Marketing, Richard King (Sales), Kaye Jimmerson (Documentation), Benny Howard (Quality) and Terry Choi (Technical) all contributed. Of course, all under the direction and attention of June Yonkman (President). We’ve been visiting with them since September 2008 and finally received the good news of our new partnership on 5/20/09. At every point in the process, Lockwood personnel demonstrated a true and tireless commitment to the customer....a commitment that will continue worldwide, enhancing APCI’s ability to remain one of the world’s leaders in the construction of individual gas plants, specialty and industrial chemicals, and environmental and energy systems. Way to go, Lockwood! Another example of how customer service can make or break a deal!

EXCELLENCE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE ...live it We’ve all been on the receiving end of poor customer service at one time or another. It can be very frustrating to say the least. At Lockwood, we should be giving each other the best customer service we can deliver. We need to be proactive and helpful; be as quick as we can to deliver information or items asked of you. Use “please” and “thank you”, always. Quit being a victim of “I’m too busy”. Next time you hear yourself say that, make note. Commit to not using those words. By treating each other the best that we will set the bar even higher and improve our customer’s overall experience. Remember, that’s why we are all here to begin with! 9

NOTES FROM BATON by Tim Yon ROUGE The Baton Rouge branch, in addition to the ExxonMobil facilities in the area, also services ExxonMobil’s Chalmette Refinery located in the New Orleans area … approximately 90 miles from the Baton Rouge office. Servicing the Chalmette refinery posed an interesting dilemma. The distance from Baton Rouge could create a feeling of isolation and the 1.5 hour drive time (one way) could make timely delivery an occasional issue. Yet the size of the Chalmette refinery, at roughly 40% the size of the Baton Rouge refinery (190,000 BPD vs. 500,000 BPD), did not justify establishing a separate branch. The solution came in the form of Kenny Simoneaux. Kenny joined Lockwood in September of 2008 and after much coordination and “red tape”, ExxonMobil allowed Kenny to office on site at the refinery. Kenny was no stranger to the refinery or the area. He and his family lived in Chalmette before having to evacuate for Hurricane Katrina and eventually relocated to what is called “the West Bank” of the Mississippi River. Kenny, as an employee of Vinson Supply, had previously serviced the refinery when it was

owned by Tenneco. Kenny’s knowledge of the area, the refinery and many of its employees has contributed to the success of Lockwood’s only “on site” office at an MRO customer’s facility. Being located in Chalmette allows Kenny to call on other refineries in the area, notably Murphy Oil and Marathon. July 2009 marks the eighth anniversary of the Baton Rouge branch. Paula Crawford, Louis Dixon and Tim Yon were “on board” that first day and mark their eighth year with the company in July. Also “celebrating” an eight year anniversary is the equipment. The original Dodge truck and Nissan fork lift have been well maintained by Anthony Anderson and Louis Dixon. Thanks to Louis and Anthony’s continued “gentle handling” and

Lockwood International was awarded the Neway Distributor of the Year award at the Conference. Mr. Mauldin would have accepted the award for Lockwood but was a little “under the weather” after feeling the effect of dining on the Chinese delicacy of sea cucumber.

Cesar left behind his wife of 29 years, Lidia Del Angel, a daughter Yanet Del Angel (and husband Edgar Escobar) and son, Erick Del Angel (and wife Naomi), along with two grandchildren, Erika E. Del Angel, 5 years old and Elizabeth Del Angel, 1 year 10 months. We wish his family strength during this time.
