January 2019

Library Newsletter Lower Moreland Township School District Mission and Beliefs District Mission: To foster individual excellence in a nurturing environment by integrating a dedicated staff, an innovative curriculum, and community resources, while promoting respect for self and others. All students will acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to become lifelong learners and citizens who will think critically, act responsibly, communicate clearly and collaborate effectively in a global community. In our school libraries, we support students in achieving these goals and teachers in constructing meaningful lessons to meet their curricular needs. Ultimately, we hope to create lifelong learners of all ages via our LMTSD School Library Media Centers.

Pine Road

Second Graders worked on Me on the Map

Mobile Research

Students have begun their participation in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. This program is open to all Pine Road students. Forms are available in the library or on the virtual backpack. Students who read for 6 hours will receive a free ticket to Six Flags Great Adventure to be used during the summer of 2019. Forms are due by February 21st and tickets will be available in May. Kindergarten students have been learning about the parts of a book with the “Book-y Pokey.” Like the hokey pokey, but we sing and dance about the book’s front cover, back cover, and spine. First Grade students have been learning about the job of a publisher of a book and where to find the publication information. Building these identification skills in early grades supports students as they look to cite print and electronic resources later in their school career. Second Grade students have been learning about maps and globes and built a Me on the Map project to learn about their local and global world. This project is a collaboration among the library, technology class, and classroom teachers to support our Social Studies curriculum and typing skills. Fifth Grade students have been working to complete their works cited page for their informational writing pieces using the Google Docs Add On EasyBib tool. Students report, “it’s easy!”
