Library Newsletter Lower Moreland Township School District Mission and Beliefs District Mission: To foster individual excellence in a nurturing environment by integrating a dedicated staff, an innovative curriculum, and community resources, while promoting respect for self and others. All students will acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to become lifelong learners and citizens who will think critically, act responsibly, communicate clearly and collaborate effectively in a global community. In our school libraries, we support students in achieving these goals and teachers in constructing meaningful lessons to meet their curricular needs. Ultimately, we hope to create lifelong learners of all ages via our LMTSD School Library Media Centers.

Reminders! You can check your library account online at any time! Go to: http://library.lmtsd.org, click on your school and enter your network username (lunch #) and network password (lm5d…). Once entered into Follett Destiny, you can search the catalog and resources, like Follett Shelf eBooks and Audiobooks, or see which items you have checked out.

Some of our Blue Hybrid learners used their yoga mats to stretch out with a good book. Our TIme Machine Book Fair is starting November 19th Please support our book fair by shopping online! The book fair will run from November 19th-December 2nd.

Kindergarten and First grade students are looking forward to hearing from author, Juana Martinez Neal, after reading many of the books she illustrated as part of this year’s Global Read Aloud. Our youngest readers are learning to differentiate between the jobs of an author and an illustrator. Second graders created an eBook called “If You Give a Kid a Book” using Flip Grid to help our youngest students know how to take care of books. Fourth and Fifth graders have also been using Flip Grid to share peer book recommendations. As we are currently in a fully virtual learning environment, make sure to check out the many eBooks and audiobooks available on our Pine Road Mackin Via account. Students are able to access Mackin Via with Google Single Sign On and checkout materials to a backpack. Electronic resources are checked out for one week and will automatically return to the shelf after one week. The direct link and further instructional videos are also available in each grade level’s Library or Encore Google Classroom.

Check out the book fair!

Lower Moreland High School The High School library con nues to welcome students and faculty to use the library in person. We are also s ll checking out books and resources for our fully virtual students. Check out this video to learn about the process. This month we had a groundbreaking mee ng in our space, and we also had a big change in our library. Read along for more about these two events and other ac vi es in the library. Womens’ Business Conference The Pennsylvania Ins tute of Cer fied Public Accountants offered a Women's Leadership Conference Webcast this year. Mrs. Siciliano, LMHS business teacher, invited the young women of LMHS to par cipate. A socially distant group of mo vated young ladies took a virtual field trip to learn from women leaders around the commonwealth. We were proud to support this event and we would love to have more events like this in the library. Maker Space Change Due to a transi on away from desktop computers, our maker space was able to move into a space that was previously a computer lab. This will allow our makers more freedom to work in an environment that allows them to make the noise and messes it takes to make. Thanks to our school administra on for seeing the need for a space such as this. We are always looking for used tools such as screwdrivers, planers, sanders, drills, saws, etc for our maker space. We are also willing to accept some old electronics for our projects. We would love to add a few flat screen tvs for some projects. If you have any, please get in touch with Mr. Engleman November Birthday Books With some amazing authors such as Allcot, Elliot, Twain, and others with birthdays in November, we are celebra ng them by featuring them on their own birthday shelf. When we are back in school, come check out the Nov birthday crew.

A group of young leaders attended a virtual conference in the library.

Our new meeting/classroom space.

Some of our students were thrilled to show their anticipation for the election. They channeled that energy into our maker space to make some buttons.
