Michael J. Creegan died January 14 at his home in Hudson, Florida. Formerly of Merrick and Westbury, Mr. Creegan was born the oldest of 17 children in the townland of Crott, County Longford, Ireland, and came to America in 1948. He earned a Combat Infantry Badge and his U.S. citizenship with the Second Infantry Division in the Korean War. Married to Rosemarie (nee Farrell), they had six children: Michael G., Kevin, Colleen (McMahon), Kerry, Joyce (McCleary) and Charles. Mr. Creegan was several-term Post Commander of American Legion Post 1282 in Merrick, and active in CYO activities at Cure’ of Ars Parish in Merrick. He was one of the organizers of the Vianney Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and The Conquistadors color guard. He greatly enjoyed dancing at the Irish American Society in Mineola, and at The Shamrock House

The presentation will be held at 1 p.m. at the Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts, 2222 Hewlett Avenue in Merrick. The public is invited to attend the annual event and admission is free. The readings will be followed by an informal coffee hour. The short stories, poems and memoirs produced by seniors in workshop sessions will be published by the town this fall in an annual compilation entitled “Musings of Maturity XXIV.” “The Creative Writers’ Workshop is one of many excellent programs offered to senior residents through our Department of Senior Enrichment,”

stated town Councilman Anthony Santino. “In this 16-week workshop, participants are encouraged to develop their artistic abilities.” “The Creative Writers’ Workshop, held at the town’s Merrick Senior Center, continues to inspire those individuals who wish to fulfill a lifelong ambition to write,” concluded Ms. Murray. “I hope area residents will lend their support and join us on June 13 for this creative presentation.” The Creative Writers’ Workshop is partially funded through a grant from Poets and Writers, Inc.
