At the libraries Freeport Library Great Books

The Great Books Third Reading Series, volume 2, continues on Tuesday, April 13, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The selection for this session is "On Evil," from "The Guide lo the Perplexed," by Moses Maimonides (1135-1204) who was born lo a distinguished Jewish family in Cordova, •Spain. He was court physician to Saladdin, king of Egypt, and played an active part in Jewish affairs. His views on Judaism, philosophy and medicine were considered heretical by many. Participants may borrow a copy of the volume pertaining lo this session, along with a Reader Aid pamphlet, at the Circulation Desk. The format is ihe process of Shared Inquiry, which is a serious and struclured meeling that focuses exclusively on questions raised by Ihe text, rather than on group members' likes and dislikes.

Soul With Heart On Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m., Soul With Heart continues its meetings with "Dancing on the Edge of the Roof by Sheila Williams. Juanita Louis is bored with her humdrum life in Columbus, Ohio. When she discovers romance novels, she begins to long for a life of passion and adventure. Books are ^available at the Circulation Desk one month before the meeting. •

.series conducted by Michael D'Innocenzo, professor of history, Hofstra University, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14. This series' will continue on the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. through June. Professor D'Innocenzo holds an endowed chair as The Harry H. Wachtel Distinguished Teaching Professor Study of°Nonviolent Social Change and is also a Kettering Foundation Associate. He also co-directs Hofstra's Public Policy Institute. This series is made possible by a generous grant from Mildred Joseph. What's happening on Long Island, in the United States and around the world each month that affects our lives? What can citizens do to help shape public policies locally and globally?

Baldwin Library National Library Week In celebration of National Library Week, April 18-24, children are invited to come to the Baldwin Public Library and vote for their favorite children's book. A prize will be given to each child who participates. The results will be displayed in the Children's Room. Stop by the Children's Reference Desk for. an entry blank.

Take Home Crafts The Baldwin Public Library invites children ages 3 to Grade 3 to come to the library and receive a craft to make at home. Youngsters will be able to choose either a pop-up baby chick, or a frog craft project. Come 16 the Children's Reference Desk for your kit.

A residence on DeMott Avenue was burglarized on March 20 between 7 and 10:10 p.m.. The loss was assorted jewelry. Entry was gained by kicking in a rear door. A 2001 Mitsubishi Montero was stolen on Marion Place, Baldwin, on March 25 between 7:25 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. + ++ Crimes Against Property Squad detectives report the arrest of a Freeport man on March 31 at 4:20 p.m. for a grand larceny that occurred in Freeport on December 31, 2003 at 10 a.m. Detectives report that Anthony Gold, 38, of South Main Street, cashed three counterfeit checks totaling $1,406.67 at Continental Check Cashing on Sunrise Highway. Crimes Against Property Squad Detective Ronald Schepis arrested Mr. Gold in Farmingdale. The suspect was charged with Possession of a Forged Instrument and Grand Larceny.

• ••are investigating a First Squad detectives robbery that occurred on March 26 at 8:05 p.m. in Freeport.

According to detectives, an attendant inside the office of Getty gas, on Sunrise Highway, Freeport, was confronted by two unknown black male robbers, one armed with a silver handgun. They demanded cash from the register and the victim's wallet, and took cigars and candy from the store, before fleeing with all proceeds northbound on North Long Beach Avenue. The victim was unharmed. The robbers are described as follows: • wearing black do-rag, black and white bandana around his face, black quilted jacket and baggy black pants, armed with silver handgun; • 6'I", medium build,.approximately 160 pounds, wearing black do-rag, black quilted jacket and baggy black pants. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

• •• On March 27, Margarita Gomez, 43. of Russell Place, Freeport was airested at JC Penney, 600 Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with Petit Larceny.

The Eddie Tonkowich Memorial Scholarship Award shall be awarded annually in the amount of $250 to a graduating senior who must demonstrate a passion for Fishing and is continuing with their education.
