EMPLOYMENT OFFER TITLE OF POSITION:

FNJF Career Counsellor/Workshop Facilitator

DURATION:

Upon approval of application submitted to Human Resources Development Canada Full-time contractual. From October 1, 2013 to March 2015 (Possibility of a 2 year extension)

ANNUAL SALARY:

Commensurate with education and experience

DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the LMDC Career Counsellor, the FNJF Career Counsellor/Workshop Facilitator will provide assistance, personal and professional skills development, career exploration/planning, counselling, and information on a wide range of educational and occupational information to FNJF/ESD clients referred by Income Assistance (IA) Assessment Counsellor, in order to establish individual action plans by identifying and establishing realistic training and personal/professional development goals for each client. The Facilitator/Counsellor will also network and collaborate with local High School and Adult Education Career Counsellors. FNJF – First Nations Job Fund – A Human Resources and Skills Development Canada initiative to provide active measures activities for First Nations youth referred by the ESD service providers. ESD – Enhanced Service Delivery An Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada initiative aimed at increasing the service delivery capacity of First Nations Income Assistance providers in order to support youth Income Assistance clients to overcome current barriers to employability and increase their access to the labour market, through an improved service delivery. REQUIREMENTS  A College Diploma in Human Services or a related field;  Personal and/or professional experience with various clienteles: persons living with a disability, severe learning difficulties, psychosocial issues, problems with the law, etc.;  Effective teamwork abilities and ability to work independently;  Must be reliable and responsible;  Work experience is an asset  Knowledge of Mi’gmaq Language and Culture is an asset  Must successfully pass a criminal background check COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE  Communication Skills o Communicate effectively, orally and in writing o Understands and follows direction o Strong, effective interpersonal communications skills in a multidisciplinary context;  Establish and maintain positive relationships       

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Coordinates, prepares and delivers employment and training workshop series, thereby: o Accompanies the client:  Through the process self-assessments in the areas of interest, personality, values, and aptitudes,  With the interpretation of self-assessment results  Through career exploration and research  Through job readiness skills development

 In identifying barriers to employment  In identifying actions to address barriers to employment  In assisting with the completion of action plans leading to employment o Where lack of training is identified as a barrier, the FNJF Counsellor/Workshop Facilitator will guide the client through implementation of the action plan, including research on training programs, program requirements and training institutions. Coordinates, prepares and delivers entrepreneurship skills development workshops covering feasibility, advertising and marketing, pricing, start-up costs, grant/loans, banking, bookkeeping and financial management, communications, time management, government and industry rules and regulations, management, and business plan development. Coordinates mentored work placements for the entrepreneurial clients to further development of business plans and to gain experience in the area of small business management and provides continued entrepreneurship advice and guidance through monitoring and follow-up. Records client progress and results in Aboriginal Labour Market Adaptation Support System (ALMASS) including established Action Plans. Reports periodically to the IA Assessment Counsellor on the progress of IA Clients. May escort clients on educational excursions to colleges, universities and job fairs. Assists in the evaluation of FNJF/ESD programs and services and recommend improvements and/or amendments.
