As one of our signature programs, our theme, "Reflections of Refinement: A Fairytale Journey" is indicative of our hopes and dreams to elevate this historical, monumental experience.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has a rich history of service to the community in the areas of education, health, economics, and global initiatives. As our chapter continues this rich history, we endeavor to provide "service to all mankind" with a spirit of love.

On behalf of the Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our Little Miss AKA Program presentation.

The Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation, Inc. is a 501 c3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to strengthen the social, health,

economic and educational well-being of the Gwinnett County community and surrounding areas. We will continue partnering with local community organizations to fulfill our mission and to make a positive impact on the communities we serve. In our partnership with Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter, GPS has awarded over $920,000 in scholarships and grants to students and community organizations in the Gwinnett County area and beyond. In 2021, we participated in over 102 community service activities, yielding over 8,112 volunteer hours, through our premiere partner, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and other organizations.

I am grateful for your support of the little misses and misters in all that they have participated in and accomplished over the past few months.

Greetings to all!

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the 2023 Little Miss AKA Pageant! It has truly been an honor to serve as the Chairman of the 2022-2023 Little Miss AKA (LMAKA) Pageant Program experience. When I started this journey, it was my sincere desire to ensure that every participant would have an unforgettable experience. My heart is full of joy and

gratitude because we certainly have had many amazing and memorable events over the past six months.

Parents, I am beyond grateful for your commitment and support to the Little Miss AKA Pageant Program. Each activity, workshop and event planned was to provide opportunities for each participant to blossom in new and exciting ways. We hope their memories of this experience will be long-lasting. Furthermore, I wish to thank each and every person who supported the Little Miss AKA participants with your sponsorship and donations Your generosity not only supported each participant in their quest to capture the crown but will also assist the Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation award scholarships/grants for high school and college students in the Gwinnett community and Greater Metro Atlanta area.

Greetings!

It is my joy and honor to greet you as the ViceChairman of the 2022-2023 Little Miss AKA Pageant Program. Working alongside our Pageant Chairman, Katrina Overstreet, and other ViceChairman, Kyra White, has been an experience I will always cherish. From the beginning, our vision, goals, and heart’s desire for this program were all PEARLFECTLY aligned and from this, Reflections of Refinement: A FAIRYTALE JOURNEY began to soar!

Oh, these twenty-five beautiful Little Misses!

A true vision of today’s beauty and tomorrow’s promise.

All the planning, dedicated time and tireless work, was all worth it to have the opportunity to travel along this Little Miss AKA journey with these special young ladies! I have truly had the pleasure of getting to know each one of them and their unique and exceptional personalities and talents. Our Fairytale Journey, together, has been a blast! It began with us teaching the girls about the importance of giving back and being of service to others in our learning workshops, which included, a painting class at Eye Candy Art Studio, bowling and ornament decorating at I Luv Bowling with the dads, an Atlanta Hawk’s basketball game at State Farm Arena, and the Atlanta Ballet’s presentation of Beauty and The Beast at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center We also had the opportunity to put on our hats and gloves and learn a little about “high tea” while enjoying a fabulous Mother/Daughter Brunch, which I had the honor of leading Lastly, we were blown away by the exceptional talents of our Little Misses and Misters, as they showed up and showed out in the Little Miss AKA Talent show where we were honored to be graced by three HBCU Queens as our show judges! Whew, we ’ ve definitely had lots of fun! I would like to take a moment to thank each of our Little Misses and Misters for their time, obedience, respectfulness, and willingness to learn new things and try new activities. Our jobs were easy because you all were phenomenal young ladies and young gentlemen throughout this fairytale journey. For this I say, THANK YOU!

We have now arrived at the finale of this program, The Little Miss AKA Pageant! Each one of these young ladies and young gentlemen have been dedicated, worked extremely hard, and I am so proud of each of them! The Little Miss AKA Pageant’s success is based on the cooperation of the parents! You are the chauffeurs, the schedulers, the encouragers, supporters, etc Without you, we don’t have them to work with

THANK YOU for allowing me and the pageant leadership the opportunity to work with your children and be a part of this journey with them. You all are truly amazing parents and it’s been a blessing to work with you and your children. To the ladies of the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation, thank you for your unwavering support throughout this program season. Your service and support of these Little Misses and Little Misters is priceless and so greatly appreciated. Greetings,

It is my distinct honor to welcome you to the 2023 Little Miss AKA Pageant Today, you will witness the culmination of a six-month program of social and educational enrichment for our 25 Little Misses and 9 Little Misters. Albert Einstein once said, “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” I would like to add that if you give children a Fairytale Journey, you expose them to the understanding that there are no limits to their

potential. Dreams really do come true!

Over the past six months, our Little Misses and Misters participated in several workshops, social events, sporting events, community service activities, and bonding activities which were fun and designed to build confidence. This confidence was on full display as they exhibited their amazing gifts during the Little Miss AKA Talent Showcase.

Witnessing their growth from the beginning of the program until now has been fulfilling. It is my sincere hope that seeds of faith, confidence, worthiness, fearlessness, strength, and determination will be continually watered as our Little Misses and Misters grow throughout life. One day, they will be in charge and I am confident that we will be in good hands!

I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as a Vice-Chairman, along with Ms. Donna C. McDonald, Vice Chairman under the leadership of the 2023 Little Miss AKA Pageant Chairman, Mrs. Katrina Overstreet. Thank you to Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter’s President, Ms. Georgette Sherman, and Gwinnett Pearls of Service, Inc.’s, President, Mrs. Sandra C. Marshall, for entrusting us with this most important endeavor. We did not take this responsibility lightly and we hope that we have made you proud.

Thank you to each sub-committee member for all of your hard work. The success of this program is because of your willingness to serve wherever needed. To all of the members of the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter, thank you for your encouragement and support. I am blessed to be in the presence of extraordinary women who ELEVATE and SOAR!

2019 LITTLE MISS AKA REFLECTION

My name is Lauren McKenzie Lewis, and I am the 2019 Little Miss AKA. My claim to fame is that I am probably the longest reigning Little Miss AKA, as the COVID pandemic interrupted the 2-year rotation of this pageant. When I won Little Miss AKA, I was in the 4th grade I am now in the 8th grade at Osborne Middle School A lot of time has passed, but I will always cherish the memories!

My Little Miss AKA pageant experience was one that I will never forget. For almost 6 months leading up to the pageant, I had the opportunity to meet friends through activities such as:

·Participating in The MLK Parade

·Attending an Atlanta Hawks game together

·Participating in Community Service (guest servers at Applebees)

·Performing in a Talent Show (where I played the piano)

·Attending a lovely Mother & Daughter Tea

·Enjoying a fun Spa Day at The Pink Hotel

My most favorite activity was probably the Spa Day at The Pink Hotel.

The day of the pageant was magical. My pageant friends and I opened the pageant with a dance number and introduction of ourselves Next, my escort and I were presented on stage Fast forwarding to the moment I was announced as the 2019 Little Miss AKA, after they called my name, I was in total shock! I cried like a baby, but of course, they were tears of joy. Once I realized that I won, I took my walk across the stage wearing my tiara and sash, and proudly waved to the audience. The scholarship money I won was placed in my college fund by my parents, and I look forward to using those funds at an HBCU one day.

In closing, I am so glad that I participated in the Little Miss AKA pageant, and again, it’s an experience I’ll never forget. I am so grateful to The Gwinnett Pearls of Service for this opportunity and would like to thank Mrs. Anika Doucette, the 2019 Coordinator of the pageant.

As I look back at my experience as an escort for the Little Miss AKA pageant, I’m reminded of several things It allowed me to push beyond my comfort level. I was able to do so by focusing on raising money for the community and secondly, to escort my mom ’ s sorority sister’s daughter.

My favorite pre-pageant events for participants were pancakes at Applebee’s to assist with fundraising and attending an Atlanta Hawks basketball game. It was special to serve my parents, godparents, and others who came to support me. Professional basketball is my favorite sport to follow. I loved having another opportunity to see the Hawks play and witness the usual high energy of an in-person game.

My proudest moment of my pageant experience was being crowned the first Little Mister Escort. I did so by raising approximately $4000 and knew I contributed to the success of helping serve the community. Serving others is something I’ve learned from my parents; I will continue to make it an important part of my life.
