Organized by a phonetic series of rounds, sorority recruitment is a well oiled machine. “Rush” is a week-long process that is sorted into Open House, Sisterhood, Philanthropy, Preference and Bid day. In the South, this mimics the most selective of college processes It breaks hearts- and the internet ‘Bama rush is an annual phenomenon that saturates TikTok and Instagram pages. In order to have a “successful” rush, preparation for a so-called “pitch” and outfits are a must.
The SEC fashion sphere is hated by many, but loved by more. It is identifiable and stereotyped. Sometimes mocked for its archetypal and widespread use Its signature style has shown itself in The University Uniform many forms in recent years, seen under any “basic” trend in its name: vsco girls, South is simply a testament to practicality and quality trends. Characterclean girls and “it” girls The synchronicity in many outfits and styles in the ized by more than bubble skirts, the SEC fashion bubble is referred to by many as underexposed.
Class to class, we see athleisure fit for lectures and sweat sets that capsule wardrobe is essential for a college girl, and accessories are the the other days of the week Comfort colors is both a renowned brand and a motto make class not feel like class- call it Southern comfort. This kind of other half that sets your outfit apart from your classmates and yours from
for a student, dated and considerable vintage greek life shirts are the perfect top for a long, tired day of classes
The Going Out-fit
Tiny tops, denim year round and dressing for the Southern heat are all things unique to the wardrobes of the SEC. When night falls over these quaint college towns, it becomes more alive than ever. Alive with glitz & glam, alive with country music, alive with karaoke that southern drawls will pierce through. Retired pageant girls, friendly strangers in a bar, and several people from your hometown hit the streets and we realize southern culture really does transcend over all.
It just means more” is the slogan for any school and football program in the SEC. This can be applied to many things in the world of Southern schools- on game days, stadiums are turned into a runway. Both comfort and style are prioritized for Saturday games, dressing for the mostly dreadful and peak weather of the southeast is crucial Most students at these schools may be shocked to hear cowboy boots at any and every occasion isn't necessarily agreed upon Tailgates are a delicacy of invitations and preparing for the weekend is treated as a necessity and for some, a good luck token.
Your college’s conference does not determine your personal style and identity. There is always room for you and your unique style to make a difference. Instead of mocking commonalities that are true to the American south, some should be reminded of the context that these short and long term trends come from. If someone were to wish to pop this bubble, all it would take would be to avoid the local boutiques and begin a long journey of self exploration (probably at a secondhand store)

Getting ready is often a woman's favorite part of the night Listening to music with your friends, as you chaotically share makeup and clothes- switching shoes and swinging down shots
Although, if you feel like you have nothing to wear, this part of the process can turn into a nightmare.
If you are looking to elevate you style for your time on Campus Corner, here are some tips for how to start.
When building your capsule wardrobe, it’s always best to start with the basics! Monochrome is an easy way to look put together in a sleek and elegant way.
All black is my go-to outfit for a night out!
Getting a few simple items can update your closet significantly. My go-to items for a night out include: my black boots and a black mini skirt.
Tall black boots can level-up an outfit. Layering these with a black skirt or even under blue jeans is a simple way to add some spice to an otherwise “basic” outfit.
With an all-black base you can decide from there wether to add color or keep it monochrome. When running behind, I always reach for a black-tube top. Although, when I have more time I love finding a fun colorful top to add some interest and texture to the outfit
When cold, you can easily add a jacket for some flare!

Shopping small never goes out of style.
Walk along the streets of any campus in the south, and you’ll soon find numerous local boutiques littering the sidewalks. As quintessential to the culture as College GameDay, boutiques are a fashion staple for every southern girl. Especially during football season.
When the air starts to cool and the tailgates start popping up, Norman’s products turn to a distinct dichotomy of crimson and cream.
Gabrielle Potter, former employee of a Tuscaloosa boutique comments, “We curated specific collections for game day months Everything was game day colors or neutral colors that could be made to wear at games.”
In buying these specific colors, they position themselves to be premier shopping for spirit wear. Any boutique with their salt will carry fashion-forward clear bags, team colored apparel, custom hats, and buttons This strategic product selection proves beneficial as gameday season is the biggest for these small shop owners
“There were girls every day coming in to buy an outfit for the upcoming weekend,” says Potter.
With sites like Amazon and SHEIN, fast fashion is becoming increasingly popular and harder to compete with. When college students could buy an article of clothing that’s fashionable and under twenty dollars, its hard to beat that. College-town boutiques have to combat these by presenting their customers with a shopping experience unique to their university.

Navigating what to wear to class is a hard feat for the cool college girl who wants to make a statement – but it doesn’t have to be.
College is a time when many people begin to grow into themselves and learn more about who they are Suddenly self expression in various forms is easier than ever That is, until you’re taking 8 a m classes and walking twice your usual step count every day.
Luckily, for the cool girl who wants to stand out, there are ways to combat the college uniform of sweatpants and slippers while saving time and staying comfortable.
Accessorizing: The Name of the Game
The simplest outfits can instantly be elevated by adding a few accessories. Jewelry, hats, sunglasses and even belts can make a statement and add a personalized touch, depending on the wearer's style
Try subtly matching an accessory to another piece in your look, like a red hat to a pair of shoes with red details An outfit accessorized will stand out from one unadorned, and with very little effort.
Make it Match!
Matching sets are a lifesaver for when you have nothing else to wear because, let’s face it, trips to the dorm laundry room are the worst. A matching set is essentially an outfit that has already been planned for you, which is perfect for the college girl on the go.
During the warmer months, opt for an athletic top and shorts set, or even an athletic dress in your favorite color This look can easily be dressed up by layering a button-up top or your goto jacket and adding some jewelry and a pair of sunglasses
When the Oklahoma heat has gone away, a matching sweat set can save the day. Sweat sets are the perfect combination of comfortable and put-together and take practically no effort.
While comfort is key in college, it doesn’t mean personal style has to be surrendered! Sometimes overdressing is the only way to get through the day. Wear your favorite jeans and layer like there’s no tomorrow.
OU nursing senior Lauren Horner said when planning her day-to-day ensemble, she seeks out unique pairs of pants to elevate her look, such as wide-leg jeans or colored bottoms.
“I think jeans are such an easy way to elevate an outfit,” Horner said. “Instead of wearing leggings with a t-shirt, I reach for any colored pant or jeans.”
Horner also said when she wants to stay comfortable, linen pants are her go-to.
“I think [linen pants] are a step-up from sweatpants,” Horner said. “Where sweatpants can look slouchy, linen pants curate a more put-together look.”
College campuses are full of a diverse range of personalities with, of course, a diverse range of styles. There’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to how you choose to dress in college, and there’s nothing wrong with switching it up and trying something different than the day before!
August is finally here Time for game days, OUTX, and of course a bust semester Back from summer and planning a new wordrobe? Pay attention to the trends you see on social media, find a way to incorporate them into you're style if you wish. OU is more laid back, more chill with their game day attire. No Queen of Sparkles will be seen in our student section. Keep to the basic that you will wear over and over again. Invest in a good pair of boots, or buy that one white dress you’ve been eyeing for a while. Think of making your outfit interesting through texture not patterns, a ruffle hem at the end of a mini skirt paired with a baby tee is not only cute but comfortable.
Here are the top three trends I’ve been eyeing that will pair perfectly with an OU pin and worn in cowboy boots.
Not too girly but just enough. A slight ruffle is something I hope to see more of this semester, paired with more casual accessories or a slick back style. When wearing a slight ruffle don’t go too far keep it understated and simple.
Opt for neutral to keep the look sophisticated and versatile. Accessories like minimalist jewelry or a classic wristwatch can elevate your outfit without overwhelming it. A sleek ponytail or a neatly tied bun can complement the ruffles, adding a touch of elegance. Remember, the key is to balance the playful elements of the ruffle with structured and polished pieces, creating a cohesive and stylish look suitable for any occasion.
I’m not saying you should wear a brown belt with black shoes Pair a black dress or set with dark brown leather boots and accessories. Find a mix that works with your skin tone. We’ve decided black and navy is no long a fashion faux pa its time to discover what other combinations were simply missing out on
I personally discovered these while surfing etsy last year and instantly fell in love. They cute and orgional coming in many different fabrics and colors. The added texture to every outfit elevates it that much further. I hope y’all trust me on this one.
