LETTER FROM DR. KRAHN

Dear LJCDS Community, COVID-19 has wrought a degree of economic distress not experienced for generations. At the same time, it has also brought out the best in people. La Jolla Country Day School has been no exception.

Many of our families are suffering financially, while others are weathering the storm a bit better. Both groups have reached out to us—the first for help and the second to help.

In response to our families’ need for help—or desire to help—LJCDS has established the Community Support Fund. We hope you will partner with us to support this effort.

Together as a community, we will help struggling families pay tuition and school fees during this time of uncertainty. Details can be found on the following pages.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT FUND COVID-19 has created unimaginable challenges, and LJCDS has and will continue to make important and timely decisions in the best interest of our community’s safety and well-being. The establishment of the Community Support Fund will help offset the cost of tuition and school fees for families experiencing financial hardship caused by this pandemic.

Tuition Assistance A growing number of current families need increased or first-time temporary financial assistance. Without aid, they will not be able to return for the 2020-2021 academic year.

School Fees Families also need help paying for various school fees.

Frequently Asked Questions: How is the Community Support Fund different from the Country Day Fund?

The Community Support Fund was established to help LJCDS families whose financial circumstances have changed directly or indirectly because of COVID-19 continue to afford an LJCDS education for their child(ren). The Country Day Fund, on the other hand, is an annual greatest need fund that supports school operations on an yearly basis.

How will the Community Support Fund be used?

The Community Support Fund will be used to offset the cost of tuition and school fees for students whose families are financially impacted directly or indirectly due to the pandemic.

Who can apply for Community Support Fund assistance and how will it be allocated?

LJCDS families whose circumstances have changed directly or indirectly because of COVID-19 can apply for new or increased tuition assistance from the Community Support Fund. The application/allocation process is similar to the regular tuition assistance application process.

Are there other independent schools offering similar programs?

Yes! Like LJCDS, independent schools have a tradition of supporting their communities philanthropically and have begun to establish funds help families weather the COVID-19 storm.
