There’sno limittothe dreamswe canmake possible whenwe come togetherto buildour future.

FROM THE DESK OF DR. TERWIN

At this year’s first all-school assembly, it was important to me that our graduating Lifers walked hand-in-hand with our Tiny Torreys to the applause of their fellow students

Why?Becauseitsymbolizesthatwearebettertogether.

This sense of community inspired the vision for The Hub a central space on campus where students explore their biggest ideas, and our community learns alongside the next generation of leaders

Leaders like Ariana Ludwig ’26, who, in addition to playing varsity field hockey and serving on the Eco-Action team, produced color-changing silicone sensory devices for children with complex medical needs at Rady Children’s Hospital. Ariana showcased her work at the Abilities Expo in Los Angeles and continues to engage with teachers and parents inspired by her project

Then there are Ariana’s classmates, Allison Casey and Carter Feinman ’24, who won two top prizes at The Jacobs Teen Innovation Challenge just days before graduation. They designed IlluminArt, a visual and tactile lightbox for children with mobility and cognitive disabilities

I’m inspired by the fact that when our local children’s hospital came to our students with a problem, Torreys evaluated solutions, prototyped, and engaged in an interactive process to create a positive impact I’m equally inspired by Allison and Carter’s decision to donate their prize money to younger classmates to encourage future innovators and continue this important work

The Hub is our investment in i out the three-story facility, students will identify ate with peers and mentors, and learn how to use We’ll hear a buzzing of thoughtful conversations and n solving complex problems

The world is changing rapidly, o be not only thoughtful consumers but more importan nt engagement with The Hub from a young age, researc beyond these walls. Being flexible, adaptive, and re n a successful and purposeful path

We have already secured more than $5 5 million toward our $15 million goal in just the second year of this campaign. The next few years, leading up to the 2026 centennial celebration, will be exciting and inspiring Like our Lifers and pre-K students, anything is possible when we come together.

Let’s create a future where every question leads to new possibilities.

Design and Innovation created an environment for me to achieve out-of-reach goals that built the the foundation for college and my career. The entrepreneurial mindset was new to most of my peers at MIT because their high schools did not have a similar curriculum. Because of LJCDS, I thrived at MIT and have now taken the design and innovation methodology into our business Most startup companies fail, yet so far at Hydrova, we have beaten the odds That is a credit to the preparation that began with the Design and Innovation program

The fusion between Design and Innovation and Center for Excellence in Citizenship gave me confidence in my competence.

As long as you have passion and are persistent, you can learn and do anything. This was pivotal for me I created my own major, Political Philosophy, Policy and Law, studying the intersection of these subjects at University of Virginia. I never would have had the confidence to pursue this without educators who encouraged me to reach my full potential.

Before I came to LJCDS, I knew I wanted to do something with a neurodiversity focus related to autism and that meant going into the neuroscience or cognitive science fields.

After the intro class, I wanted to do something related to design and innovation I thought, “Why not combine the two? How am I going to do that?”

I have a responsibility to pay it forward for future innovators the same way others paved the way for me. At LJCDS, there was an inspiring coach, teacher and mentor at every turn, helping me become the best version of myself I want to show aspiring young innovators that the possibilities are endless when you follow your intuition and lead from a place of passion and curiosity. I’m honored to give back to LJCDS and help inspire the next generation.”

“30 UNDER 30”

Our interdisciplinary approach fosters innovative, humancentered leaders of tomorrow.

Access to key mentors and industry leaders, extending the boundaries of education beyond textbooks and the traditional classroom model

Access beyond regular school hours, keeping The Hub open for LJCDS students and other promising students around San Diego and provide invaluable opportunities for collaboration with graduate students from UCSD, USD and SDSU.

Our Community Builds Our Future

“We’ve been blessed to be part of a school community that values the dignity and diversity of all people. In an ever changing world, LJCDS is committed to preparing our children and families to contribute to society, and The Hub for Human Impact embodies this vision. It is more than a building - it is a future made possible by its community coming together, creating a space for young imagineers to capitalize on unique opportunities through collaboration, innovation, discovery, and creation. We could not be more excited for our students as they expand their understandings and move forward into the world.”

MUNIBA AND FAISEL KHAN RAYAAN ‘33, EMAAN ‘35 AND MARJAN ‘38

“LJCDS is a special place where students can explore their creativity, apply their classroom knowledge, and develop their technical skills to solve real world problems. The school has had an extraordinary impact on the lives of so many students and we are excited to invest in more of what’s possible with The Hub.

CORINNA AND PATRICK CASEY ALLISON ’24 AND ANTHONY ’28

“We are beyond fortunate to be able to send our children to a school with a visionary mindset. The Hub for Human Impact will provide students with an unparalleled opportunity to become independent problem-solvers and purposeful innovators. We are proud to invest in such an important and impactful campaign.”
