The tilefish can be found in deep waters (200 to 1400 feet) off the continental shelf from Nova Scotia to the Gulf of Mexico. They are bottom feeders with strong teeth, and feed on shrimp, crabs, shellfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, squid, and an occasional fish. Their diet of crab and shrimp, etc. give them a firm but tender, white meat with a delicate sweet flavor. Extra lean fish.

Lemon Basil Marinated Tile Fish Ingredients 1 lb Tile Fish fillets 1/2 cup olive oil 1/2 cup shredded basil leaves 1/4 cup lemon juice 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes Cooking Instructions In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, basil leaves, lemon juice, garlic and red pepper flakes. Mermaid Tales
Mermaid Facts (if mermaids were real)
Sighting of mermaids during the centuries were probably manatees (sea cows). Their mermaid-like appearance caused sailors to mistake them when viewing them from afar. Even Christopher Columbus reported seeing ugly and fat mermaids on his first voyage to America. Sirens are vengeful and carnivorous mythical creatures from the Greek pantheon of gods. Even though they were often presented as flying creatures, the Greek myth of water sirens became very popular in the Europe. Mermaids are the female members of the underwater race of merfolk. Males are called mermen and are supposedly ever more shy and secretive than their female counterparts. In almost every story about them they never come to the surface to the ocean. In modern popular culture, there are four types of mermaids. Traditional mermaids that can only live in the sea, skin shedding mermaids that can walk on the land for the short periods of time (most common in Irish folklore), shapeshifting mermaids that can change to the human form at their wish, and entirely human form merfolk that can live on both land and sea.

Traditional Rhode Island clam chowder has clear broth. Though less popular than the other two, clear chowders are still served, especially at long-established New England restaurants and hotels, such as those on Block Island, and on the south coast of the state, where tourists favor white chowders while natives prefer the clear. This traditional clear chowder generally contains quahogs, broth, potatoes, onions, and bacon. In some parts of the state, a red chowder is served as Rhode Island clam chowder. This red chowder has a tomato broth base and potatoes; unlike Manhattan red chowder, it does not have chunks of tomato, and does not

Served throughout North Carolina’s Outer Banks region, this variation of clam chowder has clear broth, bacon, potatoes, onions, and flour as a thickening agent. It is usually seasoned with copious amounts of white and/or black pepper, but occasionally with chopped green onions or even hot pepper sauce.

Sand Shark
I always thought that sand sharks also called Tiger Sharks were harmless. Well, I guess if you stay far away from them, and don’t provoke them they won’t bother you. They can get as large as 6.5 feet long and weigh up to 350 pounds. Although they are docile, they can attack. A mouth full of sharp teeth could cause some serious damage. Best to stay away from them. They are a brownish-grey color with rust or red spots on top and a white underbelly. They’re found in warm or temperate waters in parts of all the world’s oceans. They tend to stay close to the shoreline. They’re listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and are protected throughout their range. Their status is due to having a low reproduction rate rather than to being

overfished or susceptible to by-catch. They’re ovoviviparous (eggs hatch internally, develop into embryos, grow within the mother and are born fully developed and rarin’ to go) . Sand Tigers do exceptionally well in captivity and are used in large aquarium exhibits. Even in the wild, they have a lifespan of only about 15 years. Sand sharks can achieve buoyancy by storing surface air in their stomachs. This enables them to stealthily come up on their prey while remaining silent and motionless. If you see one, get out of the water. Tell the lifeguard, and leave him alone.
