Welcome back. You won’t have to read this closely to see that our breeding program has turned a page which had a great start almost two years ago when we were given the opportunity to invest in Sherman. We had thirty calves by him this spring. It is a huge task to AI a herd in a day. Two years in a row we have had 110 plus calves in eleven days. When the kids were in college, they came home and told me we could sync the cows and breed them all in a day. I was the tech that day and I refer to it as “the lesson”. It is not easy but a powerful tool.
Every year we consider it a privilege to invite you to evaluate these cattle. They are survivors. Dry has been our theme for two of the last three years. It is a “stress test”. I am glad our cows don’t complain. At the start of the summer, we moved six loads of cows and all the yearling heifers out to pasture. We have been extremely blessed to have found pasture and care for the cattle in Walden, Ft. Lupton, and Egbert. We are going to offer at least 50 middle-aged cows and bred heifers for sale after we get them back home. Using black clean-up bulls in the mountains and on our heifers resulted in forty April/May baldy heifer calves that will be available next year. It speaks highly of this herd to go and perform in the tough environments we need to have our bulls go out and work in. Off test the bulls looked as uniform and good as they come. The raw performance and quality of the offering speak volumes about our genetic choices for you and what you can add to each calf. Balance is critical in all traits and sustainability is crucial proven by the way these cattle adapted and responded to staggering dry conditions.
These bulls were fed slowly to yearling weights this year and sent to GrowSafe testing at SAREC. Boot camp here starts after coming off test. We run them free range chicken (salt and water) from July to September in one bunch without any supplement. They are very athletic from roaming a full section and should look great by video day and sale day. The bulls came in to be put on feed in late September. What really needs to be showcased is the uniformity and improvement in these cattle. This is about the progress of an entire calf crop, not an individual. When you milk you will get some cream and we have some exceptional bulls coming to the top. We have some top RFI scores and the value of this data and its impact are grossly understated. Our reference sires are competitive nationally and I think these bulls could do it anywhere.
We have been diligent in selecting calving ease focusing on cattle that are shaped right. They can walk. If you end up on a lease on the west side you get to walk at least 20 miles to get home and then trail to winter pasture. Mother Nature and good fortune had us summer over 162 females in beautiful Walden, Colorado. Wind and snow are death on bad bags; we have to cull hard on it. Our udders are competitive anywhere and I don’t like to milk. Dispositions are crucial here and they are gentle. We will sell the bulls on video instead of passing them through the ring. Weights and GrowSafe info are available on sale day.
These cattle have adapted and PAP tested well in Burns, Big Piney, and Walden. If you make it there you can go anywhere. Our current sires have all been tested. We currently send one Hereford bull with the blacks to Walden and have had over a ninety % breed up in October. All bulls have passed a breeding exam and our herd health is good. We stand behind these bulls to be sound breeders. Health papers will be provided to go anywhere. All cattle are trich tested and can move on sale day. Free delivery on purchases of $4,000 or more within 300 miles. We’ll cooperate on any delivery beyond that distance. $100 off sale day. We will cooperate on the female delivery. Internet bidding is carried by LiveAg in conjunction with The Livestock Link.
Hats off to the guys from JC Berry on up, to persevere with a vision and resolve, to let us be here today. My parents’ love for the people and the cattle in this business gave us a foothold you can’t buy. Marvin’s eye for a great one was incredible. This is a humbling legacy to pursue and Mother Nature keeps us honest. I am grateful for all the help it took to get back here again this year. Obviously, I have great support beside and behind me and thanks to Janice and the family for all of it. We intend to have these cattle look as good as we can and be honest about what they are.
We know you have many choices and thanks in advance for coming here. It is worth the drive.
See you on sale day!

*WE WILL RETAIN PARTIAL OWNERSHIP IN SELECT BULLS TO BE ANNOUNCED SALE DAY
Explanation of feed testing measurements – April 22 to July 1, 2025. Pen size was doubled, and the bulls did better for it. Their facility was updated this last year, and the data is reviewed by GrowSafe. Bulls were trained to feeders and evaluated on an 70day feeding study where individual feed intakes were measured. A backgrounding/growing diet was fed, consisting of cracked corn, ground alfalfa hay, corn silage and protein supplement. The ration was formulated for an estimated daily gain of 3.67 lb./day. Individual weight gain and feed intakes were collected on each bull.
Calculations included:
Overall Weight Gain – Average In weight - 955#. Average end weight - 1,161#. Weight gained - 206#.
Average Daily Gain (ADG) – 2.94 ADG.
DM Intake – Actual feed intake measured for each individual bull, through the GrowSafe feeding nodes. Feed amounts provided in the table are adjusted to a 100% Dry Matter (DM) basis.
Feed: Gain – A measurement of feed efficiency, listed as the lb. of feed required to achieve 1 lb. of weight gain for each bull. This is calculated using the daily feed intake and ADG for each bull. A lower number indicates a more efficient bull (less feed required to achieve weight gain).

Gain: Feed – Also a measurement of feed efficiency, listed as the amount of weight gain achieved for each 100 lb. of feed consumed. In this case, a higher number indicates a more efficient animal. In other words, more weight gain was achieved per 100 lb. of feed consumed.
RFI – Residual Feed Intake. RFI is the preferred method of evaluating efficiency in seedstock animals because it is an efficiency measurement that adjusts for the size of the animal. Using traditional feed efficiency measurements (to select cattle) would cause you to indirectly select for larger animal size because larger frame animals tend to me more efficient. RFI is preferred because it is a feed efficiency index independent of animal size. RFI numbers refer to the comparison between actual feed intake vs. expected feed intake (based on the ration fed and animal size). A negative number is preferable, indicating a more efficient animal that consumed less feed than predicted. Positive RFI indicate a less efficient animal that consumed more feed than expected.
Rankings and combined Ranking. All bulls were ranked based on ADG, feed efficiency and RFI, with individual rankings provided. A combined ranking was also included, which equally weights the bulls ADG, efficiency and RFI ranking, with bulls ranked on their combined scores. The #1 combined ranking would indicate a bull that had the highest combined ranking in all three measurements.

8339 is backed by generations of great cow families and is an outcross to a lot of modern horned genetics. When Doug Branch from Bufords in Oklahoma sent us a pasture shot of this bull out working, there was no doubt that there was real muscle there. His sons are stout like Dad and looked the part early on. Good footed, short marked and packed with Rib Eye Area, they will be a sale feature. Heifers look broody with lots of pigment and quality. Ten sons sell. They are a great sire group from a powerful AI sire.

Sherman has taken the breed by storm, and Churchill’s recent dispersal proved it. His sons have topped sales everywhere! His first 26 sons averaged $20,000 in the last Churchill Bull Sale! His EPDs are excellent with top 13% teat, top 1% REA, and top 4% Marb. His CHB is in the top 3% and his BMI is in the top 7%. Sherman’s dam is one of the best cows in the breed, and she has an ideal udder! He is the real deal. The shape and mass of his sons here have taken us to the next level in our polled cattle. He had twice the number of bulls to heifers with eight sons selling and a few daughters as features.

I first saw 1235 out of the pasture from Lowell Fisher’s herd in Denver as a coming twoyear-old bull. He was way too thin to be competitive, but had a laser straight top, lots of capacity, and his feet were perfect. Darker in color, he breeds lots of pigment, and the daughters this spring were spot on. He was 6162’s natural calf that year. She had eight sons born this year. She produces herd bulls by almost any sire at Coopers. A brother 0186 was a feature at the Venhuizen dispersion.

You will not find a truer herd bull look in unison with this kind of data package. His dam is the rock star donor 7098, who is creating an absolute buzz in the breed with everything she produces. Daughters were special here this spring. 128J is awesomefronted, great balanced, and with tremendous feet. Use him to “class up” your herd. He is DNA tested heterozygous polled. 100% pigment in both eyes.

One of the deepest, biggest bodied, thickest herd bulls Ward’s have ever raised and turned out. He is easy fleshing and was in good condition when I sold him at age nine. 100% pigment with a brockle face, top 6% YW, and 1% SC. Sons are high weaning and big yearling performers. How valuable could that be? The daughters are beautiful. Dam 76S was a landmark cow. Great feet, extremely sound, and incredibly good-natured.

He is #2 RFI -7.54 and finished better than seventh in every category. We lost his dam after her ninth calf and he was raised by a foster dam and shouldn’t have been indexed. My mistake. Someone will have a great opportunity to select a great sire group out of 1235 and here is the place to start.

This is our “Fire Plug” bull for the year! He is deep and soggy in every way and has an outstanding head. Two near goggle eyes. Out of a smaller frame cow but she knows how to bring us home the good ones! Conservative frame here but so much quality and ability to breed performance with a low birthweight. Big EPD profile.

Dam

More of the same great thing with top ratios combined with that 1235 look and EPD package. 6162 is a female that is just spectacular and may be the best 55X daughter. They look

I am proud we can show you this much quality in raising two generations of polled cattle. Bone, Muscle,

Herdbull caliber and a Sherman! Red all over, desirable head shape, clean fronted and backed by a ‘textbook’ Long Haul mama. Extra volume and shape with medium color and full pigment. We added a 1235 sister of 28M to the herd and she is Wow!

Performance profile, genetic profile, tremendous shape and deep dark red cherry color to pronounced goggle eyes! You will mark this bull! Goggle-eyed baby sister by 203 exceeds expectations. Pedigree is all our best of the oldies polled Canadian and horned lines through Starfire 185. You can follow him back to our core. Tremendous Kingdom son out of a big red meat cow family.

Super cool! Dominated the herd’s individual performance ratios. Double-bred with goggle eyes. Nice muscle pattern through the shoulder. He should top anyone’s shortlist.

Top shelf High Noon prospect. Short, soggy type that’s wider than most and looks like a winner. Dam is a fancy cow with good carcass behind her.

Exceptional EPD profile.

Out of the same cow family as Lot 4. I like him a little more with the High Noon mass. The G3 cattle are excellent mothers. Great at SAREC with a -1.04 RFI.

and 109 Yearling. Generations of what we’ve been breeding for. Role model for Hereford type and kind. Old cow’s calf but should produce replacement females. #11 for Composite Feed Efficiency.
Most conservative framed heifer bull. He is a favorite of mine. Double bred Long Haul.

He is long and tall for a calving ease prospect Highly recommended for any color replacement female. Second best at SAREC he cracks feed efficiency wide open in these bulls -5.22 RFI. To be able to quantify efficiency like this these RFI numbers are invaluable.

His dam is our biggest and best Anchor female. He is double-bred to 670. If you missed the Long Haul run here is a second chance because there will be a bunch of him someday. Dam’s average progeny ratio is WR 109, YR 105. 100% pigment, big and rugged with lots of growing potential. He is suited for any type of cross-breeding program.
more pounds for less. Top flight Growth and Carcass EPDs but the kicker is #1 Dry Matter Intake and Feed to Gain rank. #9 FRI makes him our efficiency leader.
Calving ease and carcass both will help making this heifer
