Lazy C Diamond - Production Sale

Page 1

We are incredibly excited to present to you our first “May 1” born calf crop! As we had hoped, the late spring calving model - calving out on grass for the 2nd year, has been a joy, to the say the least. Our overall calf health and viability is drastically improved and they can go directly from calving pastures to summer grass.

The sale bulls and bred heifers were turned out on grass for the summer, which we feel is really a crucial part of their development. They were brought back closer to home mid-August so we could start them on a TMR and eventually start all the sale preparations. We hope you are impressed with the overall quality and depth of the offering. The bulls are hardened, rugged, and ready for heavy usage.

The females provide a wide selection for even the most discriminating eye, there are donor caliber females and front pasture cows throughout. We hope that you find what you are looking for! There sure is a majority of them that we’d be happy to have kept, but we want to sell a set of breeding pieces that offer much to the genetic base of any operation.

Our vision and commitment to Simmental cattle has never wavered. We are always striving to improve upon the tremendous foundation we’ve been blessed to work with. We believe at the very basics, building upon the strongest cow families is of utmost importance, and we are thankful to have been able to incorporate some of the very best there is! We love Simmental cattle and believe they offer the beef industry a whole lot of versatility and most of all PERFORMANCE!!

Our family is well; the kids are growing like crazy and bring joy and laughs to our everyday life. We are thankful to get to raise them in this ranching lifestyle and all the foundational life lessons it presents. The cows are our passion and livelihood but yet at the end of the day, the little people that we are shaping and raising are our highest priority. We hope that you can relate.

Brock continues to be my right hand man and pours just as much heart and soul into the Simmental cattle as I do on a daily basis. He has developed a really good eye and you’ll enjoy visiting with him about the offering. However, he does not enjoy fielding any questions related to quarter horses or corgis……it’s probably best to continue to direct any of those questions to me!!!

Dillon and Esrie Hurndall and Faith Shirek have all come aboard the crazy LCDR train this past summer and have been quickly learning the ropes. They all offer their unique talents to our operation and we are grateful for the long hours that they dedicate to our ranch!

As in the past, the sale format will be a video auction and broadcasted online through DVAuction. We have bid on and bought many bulls and females through DV and highly recommend utilizing this bidding method if you are unable to attend sale day. We also invite each of you to visit the ranch ahead of the sale to sort through the bulls and females, see dams, and visit one-on-one about the specific needs of your program when making bull or female selections. We offer a $100 discount to be used towards a bull purchase if you visit the ranch between October 24th and November 14th.

As always, don’t be afraid to give us a call with any questions about the offering! We are excited to visit and hope to see you November 15th!

Sincerely,

Chris, Julia, Ivy, Flint, Lainee, Shaye, and Rhen Nicholson

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Please register for a bidding number sale day! When registering for a bidder number, please give the office staff your current ASA number for transferring registration papers.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

Terms of the sale are cash/check. Every animal will be sold to the highest bidder. Announced changes in the catalog information on sale day take precedence over printed material in this catalog.

All animals listed in catalog having Homozygous Black or Homozygous Polled are done so to the best of our knowledge. We are not liable for any inaccuracies. All cattle sell under the terms and conditions of the American Simmental Association.

LIABILITY:

Any person attending the sale does so at his/her own risk. Neither the sale management, owners, nor any person connected with this sale, assumes any liability, legal or otherwise.

INSURANCE:

We recommend insuring your bulls or females in the case of unexpected fatality. Insurance will be available sale day.

FARM VISITS:

We encourage farm visits at your convenience. Visitors to the ranch between October 25 and November 14 will get a $100 discount off of a sale day bull purchase. Being the auction format is a video sale, and no animals will walk through a ring, we highly recommend coming early sale day to have enough time to evaluate all the bulls. We hope to see many of you!

ADG & FEED RATION:

We work with PNC Feeds of Hebron, ND for balancing the ration. We shoot for a 3.0 lb ADG average on the bulls. We feel that shows their growth potential without sacrificing their longevity by getting over conditioned and the chance of ruining feet. We are developing “athletes” that will last for you. They are developed in big open pens and get plenty of exercise to properly develop.

DELIVERY:

Delivery of the bulls will begin shortly after the Sale. The bulls have passed a semen evaluation and are ready to be incorporated into your operation. We offer free delivery up to 250 miles from the Ranch. We will work with the buyer to arrange the most economical delivery for distances beyond 250 miles. Bred heifer transportation is the responsibility of the buyer unless we can combine with a bull delivery run. We would like the bred heifers picked up as soon as possible after the sale. Both bulls and heifers can be taken home sale day if you are attending in person and bring a trailer.

GENOMIC ENHANCED EPDS:

All of the bulls selling in the 2025 Sale have EPD’s enhanced with DNA technology. We are investing in the latest technology available to provide you with the most accurate EPD’s possible. This technology improves the accuracy of EPDs on yearling bulls as if they were an older bull with progeny proof! You will see “Genomic Enhanced EPDs” above the EPD box of the bulls that have genomic enhanced EPD profile

RETAINED SEMEN INTERESTS:

We’ve wanted a transparent scale of retained semen interest that we can refer to, thus resulting in no behind the scenes deal that benefits one bidder over another. Please refer to the retained semen interest levels below. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.

Up to $19,999 we will retain 50% semen interest

$20,000 to $39,999 we will retain 33.3% semen interest

$40,000 and above we will retain 25% semen interest

The buyer has the option to buy out our retained semen interest at the time of the sale if so desired. In the case that the buyout of seller’s retained semen interest happens, we retain the right to collect semen on the bull at our own expense for in herd use only. The formula we use to calculate the semen interest buyout is as follows:

[Purchase price = semen rights already purchased (60% of purchase price) + pasture rights (40% of purchase price)]

DISPOSITION SCORES:

Please note the disposition score for each animal. We use a scoring system from 1-6 with lower scores indicating calmer, gentler cattle: 1 – Docile; 2 – Restless; 3 – Nervous; 4 – Flighty; 5 – Aggressive; 6 – Very Aggressive. Most of the bulls will fall in the 1 or 2 category, with an occasional 3. Anything above a 3 is automatically culled from the bull pen. Please use this as a relative gauge for your operation. If you have a lot of help from your family or inexperienced workers while working with your cattle, we recommend buying 1 and 2 scoring cattle. 3’s are completely manageable but have at times shown to be more nervous. These scores are based on our daily interactions with the bull to date. Keep in mind, as an animal gets older, or with different handling, its attitude can change.

BEGINNING RANCHER DISCOUNT

:

We are offering a “Beginning Rancher Discount” on bull purchases from LCDR. We realize the financial burden it takes to get established in this industry and want to encourage young producers within the cattle business. We will apply a 5% discount to your total purchases. Purchases must be for use within your own cowherd.

ELIGIBILITY:

30 years old or younger or have been ranching for less than 10 years.

VOLUME DISCOUNTS :

We will be offering the following discounts for volume bull buyers:

3 head – 3% off total purchases

4 head – 4% off total purchases

5 head or more – 5% off total purchases

BULL GUARANTEE:

a. We offer a 60 day breeding season guarantee that covers fertility and career ending injuries within that first 60 day turnout. A replacement of equal value or sale credit (minus salvage value) will be issued for the following sale. Issues such as frozen scrotums and poor nutrition that are out of our control will not be covered. A veterinarian’s opinion may be requested.

b. All bulls have passed a semen evaluation prior to the sale. If you are using the bull for the 1st time in the spring/summer of 2026, we recommend doing another breeding soundness exam prior to turnout.

c. We ask that you contact us immediately if any other issues arise and we will do our best to make it right. We appreciate your business and strive to provide you with a guaranteed, superior breeding animal.

HERD HEALTH:

We have completed 6 years of whole herd Johne’s testing and all dams of LCDR raised sale cattle tested negative in March 2025. Bull calves will not have received any foot root or pinkeye vaccines prior to delivery.

LCDR Trending 25M

• Trending has earned his place as Lot 1 by jumping through each hoop we set before him, as you know there is a bunch of them, and he cleared them all!

• He is an incredible representation of what we’ve worked so hard to combine – exceptional phenotype and a stellar number profile! Then take that one step further, his young dam is close to PERFECTION. Beautiful udder, perfect foot, attractive, angular, and massive middled. The Firesteel females are tremendous producers, and 208K has quickly earned her spot as one of our very best.

• All things considered, he’s one of the best we’ve produced and we couldn’t be more excited for his future and the impact he could have! He offers a very different pedigree combination than most of the high API type bulls out there, yet he’s much more than just a “numbers” bull!

• Anthem has proven to be wildly popular, semen revenue producing machine! Imagine what an even higher calving ease, solid black son, has the potential to do! Trending is currently sitting as the highest API son/daughter of all the Anthem progeny in the database.

• We have already collected him this summer and used him for our upcoming 2026 calf crop. Buyer will have immediate access to the

LCDR Evidence 23M

• LCDR Evidence 23M has been a standout all along. He’s the natural calf out of one of our absolute favorite C4 daughters, 92H. Like Lot 1, he’s risen to the top of the pack and constantly impressed us with the complete, overall package that he presents!

• Study his data set and EPD profile closely! His growth and marbling projections are impressive, but he’s much more than just a terminal bull!

• Heirloom 92H is another one of those “I’d take 100 more like her” type of cows! She’s really attractive, long as a train, deep bodied, and super uddered. The depth of quality and influential females stacked up in his pedigree would indicate the sheer maternal potential he also should produce!

• With every great sire, we then look to see which son has the potential to rival his father, Evidence is that caliber of bull!

• We collected and heavily used Evidence this past breeding season. Buyer will have access to the 285 units of semen stored at CGS.

All around useful, relevant, power bulls with extra frame, imagine the feeder steers they will produce! Now you just have to decide which one you like the best!!

It’s funny how an “L” name, assigned when entering them into the database can fit a cow so well. I really really LOVE this cow!!!! She has quickly risen to the top of our red program and for good reason – we aspirated her as a virgin heifer and those ET calves are on the ground now. If I took you out in those recip pairs, I’d be pointing out impressive “Love” calves, left and right! She flat out got it done, and is just getting started. She possesses a beautiful udder, perfect foot, darker red and is structurally correct! Add in her phenomenal number profile that sits right around a 200 API and interesting outcross pedigree….She’s truly unique and we will continue to move ahead aggressively with this stunning young female!
