What it means to work with us
Local Government is at the heart of the community and responsible for everything from infrastructure, planning, tourism, open spaces and to events, arts and libraries that enrich our lives. Behind the scenes we have expert teams to ensure the organisation is effective, customer focused and accountable.
Liverpool is unique as our Mayor is popularly elected – that means the community vote for the Mayor who is appointed for a four-year term. The Deputy Mayor is voted for by the Councillors at a Council meeting.
We are accountable to the elected officials – Mayor and Councillors and to our community. We are a growing City, with programs and aspirations that make us UnCouncil-like. We need to be community-focused, think like a business, foster innovation and make smart, agile decisions to deliver the best outcomes and public value for the Liverpool community.
Achieving our goals at Liverpool City Council takes a dedicated team of people with diverse skills and experiences – and that is what makes Liverpool an inspiring, inclusive, and empowering place to work. We see the results of our efforts every day in the community we serve.
We are responsible public service officers and are privileged to work at the forefront of making a real difference to people’s lives. As a government organisation we have a Code of Conduct and policies to keep everything running smoothly. It’s your responsibility to understand and follow our policies and uphold what it means to be a member of the public service. If you see something that doesn’t feel right – like unsafe practices, fraud, corruption or unethical behaviour, it’s important to report it.
