WELCOME

Welcome to our guide to Liverpool Cathedral during Lent, Holy Week and Easter 2018. You’ll see at a glance our key worship services and events. As well as joining us during this time if you are looking for inspiration for Lent and Holy Week, join the Church of England’s initiative the #LiveLent - Let Your Light Shine. This sixweek discipleship journey takes you through the Gospel of John, exploring what it means to be a

witness. For each day, from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day, there is a short reading, a pause for reflection and prayer, and an idea for a simple action that will enable the light of Jesus to shine through our everyday lives. We look forward to welcoming you to our Cathedral during this time. »» Find out more www. churchofengland.org/lent #LiveLent Resources available at the Cathedral Shop 3

Palms to Go offers palms from our Palm Sunday service for an hour each day during Holy Week. This a way of bringing ancient Lenten traditions to a wider public, into Holy Week. This year clergy will be available Monday 26th March to Thursday 29th March, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Canon Paul said: “Each year more than 100 people take the opportunity and it is great to remind people of the true message of Easter in such a special week. Our prayer is that this year more people encounter God in this simple, creative way.” »» For further information check our website: www.liverpoolcathedral.org.uk

CHECK OUT THE MOST SPECTACULAR VIEW Standing an impressive 154m above the River Mersey, the Vestry Tower offers breathtaking views of the city and beyond. On a clear day, you can even see the Blackpool Tower and the Welsh hills. Enjoy your Tower Experience weekdays, 10 am to 5 pm, Saturdays 9 am until 5 pm and on a Sunday from 12 noon until 4 pm. (Please check our website www. liverpoolcathedral. org.uk for more details)

DID YOU KNOW? • We’re the biggest cathedral by volume and length in the UK. • If you lay the Statue of Liberty and Big Ben tower down end-to-end, Liverpool Cathedral would be longer by 1cm, but still longer! • There’s the equivalent of 7 tennis courts worth of stained glass in our Cathedral. • The combined weight of our bells is about the same as 4 elephants.

IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS For our keeping of Lent and for our response to God. For our giving in response to a Father’s love and in response to a human need; for our clergy as they offer the Lent Lectures - Never the Same Again. For Bishop Paul as he continues his Sabbatical and Bishop Richard as he nears the end of his time serving as Bishop of Warrington, praying your blessing on him and Helen in retirement. For our new Dean, Revd Canon Dr Sue Jones, and her preparations to re-locate to Liverpool and continue her ministry with us here. For the peace of the whole world, and for those who lead the nations; for the victims of torture; for those who are sick and for all who mourn. 15
