Pedestrian Safety Month
Annually, the State of Hawai`i acknowledges August as Pedestrian Safety Month Throughout the month, events are held to draw attention to traffic safety and the importance of being mindful of those around us while traveling on the road; most especially pedestrians
Kapilina Beach Homes is no stranger to these concerns Whether walking, cycling, or driving traveling around the community please be cautious of our neighbors and follow these helpful tips:
Adhere to local laws and the posted speed limit (15 miles per hour)
Avoid blocking sidewalks and easments intended for pedestrians
Abandon distractions while in motion (e.g., cell phones).
Adopt safe practices such as looking both ways before crossing a street
Acknowledging that pedestrians have the right-of-way at marked crosswalks.
For more information of how you can help to keep Hawai`i’s roads safe, visit Walk Wise Hawai`i and consider taking the pedestrian pledge.

BUILD A KIT
Often times disaster strikes when we least expect it. You’ll want to prepare a kit of essentials, a go-bag!

See the list on page 9 for a few recommendations or visit honolulu.gov/dem for more information.
MAKE A PLAN
Where will your family meet if you can’t get home; can’t communicate? Discussing these things before they happen is a step in the right direction.
—
There’s plenty of information at ready.gov to help you create a plan.
BE INFORMED
Knowing what to do in an emergency is best done before it happens. Learn from experts, and know who to receive information from before, during, and after a disaster.

We recommend the Hawai`i Emergency Management Agency.
