Happy Women’s Month Next week marks the beginning of Women’s Month, a time for the country to celebrate its women. It is an opportunity to recognise the achievements of phenomenal women in various spheres of society from business, education and community.

Women’s Month is also a time to honour women of all races who have played a role, and continue to play, in making South Africa a non-sexist, non-racist and democratic country. These milestones should not only be celebrated in August but should be celebrated all the time.

We salute the great women of the W&RSETA who go beyond the call of duty to contribute to skilling the Wholesale and Retail Sector. Amandlakazi, zimbokodo!

OD Process The organisational redesign of the W&RSETA has been a long, challenging and exciting process which started in October 2018 and is now taking shape with several appointments having been finalised. We still have a few months to go to the conclusion of this process.

2018/19 RMDP continues despite

COVID-19 The 2018/19 Retail Management Development Programme (RMDP), which commenced in July 2020, was interrupted by the COVID-19 lockdown but has resumed virtually. COVID-19 has disrupted many aspects of our lives including the way we do business and learn; however, the technology that has evolved in recent times has made it possible for the SETA to continue with the implementation of the RMDP. The RMDP is one of our flagship programmes and is aimed at developing middle managers to excel and prepare them for the next level of leadership. In its seventh year, the programme has benefited over 1700 middle managers, team leaders and supervisors.

The 2018/19 programme is the first to be offered as a full qualification. Henley Business School Africa is implementing the RMDP as the Advanced Certificate in Management Practice at NQF level 6. The Gauteng group comprising of 131 delegates has completed the programme.

On 20 June 2020, the sixth group of the programme commenced with their classes on Zoom making this the first programme of the W&RSETA to be implemented virtually. The CEO addressed the group on 26 July 2020 as well as cohort 7 which started on 20 July 2020.

The CEO officially welcomed the delegates to the programme and wished them a fulfilling learning experience. He also addressed the impact of COVID-19 on the sector and the W&RSETA’s commitment to support companies during this time.

Pearl Makhudu is currently project managing this programme which is scheduled to be completed in September 2021.

covid-19 educational campaign A GUIDE TO MANAGING MILD COVID-19 DISEASE AT HOME Together, we can flatten the COVID-19 curve

As we continue to learn about the pandemic that is disrupting our lives and learning how to live with the coronavirus in our daily lives, let us focus on the guide for managing mild COVID-19 at home. This guide will assist you to look after yourself when you are experiencing symptoms but have not yet tested.

LOOK OUT FOR THESE SYMPTOMS The most common symptoms of COVID-19 that you should look out for are the following: • fever • new continuous cough • shortness of breath • tiredness • muscle aches • congestion or runny nose • headaches • sore throat • loss of taste/smell • nausea or vomiting

• Do not go to work

• Do stay at home for 14 days

• Do not use public transport

• Do stay calm

• Do not go to public places

• Do ensure you have family members on hand who can help you to get

• Do not go shopping • Do not visit anyone • Do not attend religious gatherings • Do not have visitors in your home • Do not leave home unless you need medical care

WHAT YOU CAN DO when you are diagnosed with COVID-19 or if you have symptoms but have not yet tested.

2020/2021 SSP stakeholder sessions concluded The Strategic Planning, Performance and Evaluation unit concluded the annual Sector Skills Plan (SSP) national consultations with the two last sessions held in North West and Limpopo on 20 and 24 July 2020, respectively.

These sessions allowed the SETA to receive input on critical areas around skills development, economic and labour markets that will inform our SSP update which is due for submission to DHET on 31 August 2020. The SETA also outlined its revised APP priorities that are being implemented to address the impact of COVID-19 on the W&R sector.

Stakeholders were given an opportunity to share how the COVID-19 impacted their businesses and to highlight their view on measures and initiatives that the SETA can implement to assist them during this period.

Well done to Mxolisi for overseeing this important process for the organisation. The Provincial Managers, together with their teams, have also provided support to ensure that stakeholders participate in the sessions.

Caught being great Kudos to the following colleagues who are demonstrating the W&RSETA value of providing quality services to stakeholders, both internal and external: A big shout to Promise Dlamini (Administrator: GPN) for always assisting the M&C team with stakeholder queries from the W&RSETA email address and social media platforms.

Thank you for assisting us to be responsive to stakeholders, and timeously so.

During the SSP session in North West, Elizabeth Botsane (TVET Coordinator: North West) was praised for an excellent service by Mario Dimitri, the Manager at Ultraliquor. “In the past two years I had a very good experience working with Elizabeth who is the main interaction here at the SETA. She has been really helping us a lot for us to get to our feet in implementing Workplace Skills Plan and working with our training and education organisations in ensuring that we get the most out of it.�- Dimitri

Hi guys I probably should have sent this earlier, but anyway.

Mpho Eze (Acting Senior Project Specialist: GPS) was applauded for her excellent service from the Group Skills & Transformation Manager at AVI Limited.

Despite all the challenges we experienced during the Annexure II submissions, Mpho and her team managed to deliver quality service to stakeholders.

Well done and keep up the great work, colleagues.

Thank you all for the great support during the WSP and ATR Submissions, I am sure it was frustrating for us all, but determination prevailed.

A very special shout out to Mpho, my darling I am sure we irritated the hell out of you, but thank you for always patiently assisting even though it was an issue on the provider’s side and not the SETA’s side.

You were always polite, patient and professional with us, even when I lost it sometimes in frustration with the MIS service provider. Thanks for supporting your stakeholder. We appreciate you all!!!
