Community Update

#LionProud

DEAR LISLE 202 COMMUNITY,

As we continue our journey through another academic year, I would like to take a moment to express my appreciation for the strong partnership we share within our community. The connections we have between our youngest Lions at Lisle Elementary School to our oldest Lions at Lisle High School are evident every time we are able to come together as a learning community. From Homecoming assemblies to multi-school programs such as the District Choral Festival, the support we have for each other is unmatched. Together, we create an environment where our students can thrive and reach their fullest potential.

Our school district is deeply committed to providing our students with rich academic opportunities that foster growth, creativity, and a love for learning. Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to develop innovative programs that engage students and inspire them to pursue their passions. We understand that every child is unique, and we strive to meet each student where they are, providing the support and resources necessary to help them succeed.

Ten years ago, we held our first series of Community Engagement Sessions, called Vision 202. Since that time, Vision 202 has been our platform to share and learn together as a learning community. Over the years, the format has taken various forms, however, the goal has remained the same, to work with you, our community to set the path forward for the students in our community.

This year, we will once again host a series of Vision 202 sessions to share information and gather feedback from both current and past parents and community members who do not have children in our schools. I would like to invite our community to join us in the Vision 202 conversations coming in early 2025 and help us update our collective vision for the students of Lisle 202.

On behalf of the Board of Education, it is my pleasure to present the Fall 2024 edition of the Lisle 202 Community Mailer. We appreciate your support and commitment to our students and schools and are proud to share information about how we support students in our schools as well as the results of the hard work of our students and staff.

CONTINUUM OF SERVICES

Lisle 202 is committed to providing the education, skills, and experiences students need to be successful both inside and outside the classroom. Our staff is committed to meeting each student’s unique needs by delivering instruction and materials tailored to their current abilities, while also encouraging them to challenge themselves and grow. For some students, this means thriving in the general education classroom, while others may benefit from additional support to address their individual goals. By personalizing the learning experience, we ensure that every student is prepared for their next steps. We invite you to explore the many ways we support our students on their educational journeys!

GENERAL EDUCATION

The general education curriculum is provided to all students, focusing on core academic subjects and the grade-level standards outlined in the Illinois Learning Standards. Students engage in a variety of learning experiences that support not only content knowledge but also the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, preparing them for college and/or a career.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TIME & INTERVENTION

Each Lisle 202 school has scheduled time during the school day to assist students with reteaching, reviewing, or enrichment based on the students’ needs. If a student needs additional assistance in grasping the content standards, they may receive support by qualifying for more intensive intervention times. At the elementary level, small group instruction in addition to classroom instruction is provided, at the junior high level, reading, writing, and/or math instruction is provided during a scheduled class period, and at the high school, students receive academic support during designated class times based on their individual needs.

SPECIAL EDUCATION

Special education services in PK-12+ schools are designed to provide tailored instruction and support to students with disabilities. These services are aligned with the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), which is developed through a collaboration of the IEP team, which includes our staff, the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s), and other relevant professionals.

Students with IEPs receive educational support tailored to their needs. This may include additional materials and/or services in the general education classroom, modifications to the regular curriculum, and/or support provided by specialized staff members outside of the general education classroom.

In all cases, Lisle 202 makes every effort to educate the student to the maximum extent appropriate in a general education environment. However, at times, students require a higher level of support than our schools are able to provide. In these instances, Lisle 202 partners with schools that specialize in supporting students with more significant needs to ensure they continue to progress and grow to their potential.

ASSESSMENT RESULTS - GRADES 3-8

ILLINOIS ASSESSMENT OF READINESS (IAR)

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness, or IAR, is the annual accountability tool for measuring student growth in relation to the Illinois State Learning Standards. Administered each spring, the IAR assesses students in grades 3-8 in the areas of English-Language Arts and Mathematics, as mandated for public schools. The results from the spring of 2024 showed that Lisle students continued to demonstrate increasing performance trends, significantly surpassing the State results.

NATIONAL MERIT RECOGNITIONS

Each fall, over 1.3 million of the most academically accomplished juniors in the nation participate in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). It is our honor to acknowledge the outstanding accomplishments of Lisle seniors Lukas Nagler and Cecilia Roth who are recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program as Commended Students, and Lisle senior, Shiv Patel who is recognized as a Semifinalist. Commended students are among the top 34,000 highest scorers nationwide and Semifinalists are among the top 16,000 highest scorers nationwide. Mr. Patel will will continue in the competition as a semifinalist, competing for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered this spring.

We are also #LionProud to recognize the the outstanding accomplishments of senior Nicolas Bundschuh and junior Leah Kreller who were named National Hispanic Recognition Program Award recipients. They are two of nearly 90,000 students from across the country who earned academic honors from the College Board’s National Recognition Program. The National Recognition Programs honor the strong academic achievements of underrepresented students and showcase the students’ hard work in high school. Students earn this recognition in one of the following ways: GPA of B+ or higher, finishing in the top 10% of PSAT/NMSQT® or PSAT™ 10 assessment takers in each state for each program, or have earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP® Exams by the end of 10th grade.

ASSESSMENT RESULTS - GRADES 9-12

SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST (SAT)

Illinois high school students are required to take an annual accountability assessment. Since 2017, students in grade 11 have taken the SAT in the spring to fulfill this requirement, which also serves as a college admissions assessment accepted by many institutions of higher education and the results are reported on the Illinois School Report Card each year. We are proud to share that the percent of Lisle High School juniors that met or exceeded the expected performance level on the SAT in the spring of 2024 once again exceeded the State results.

Lisle Illinois

Lisle 202 believes in the importance of a collaborative partnership with the Lisle community. Working together is a key element in updating our vision for the future of the District and maintaining the tradition of excellence in our schools.

What is Vision 202?

Vision 202 began in 2015 as a collaborative process between the community and Lisle District 202, led by community members and District staff focusing on the achievements, needs, and other key issues essential to maintaining a successful educational experience for students. In order to create a collaborative forum, Community Engagement Sessions - interactive workshops - have been held, providing members of the Lisle 202 learning community opportunities to share ideas, discuss topics, and serve as a way to provide input to the School Board.

Over the years, input from the Vision 202 sessions has yielded insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the District on a variety of topics. These sessions, held in both large and small formats, have provided valuable information that has helped shape a community-wide collaborative vision, guided the implementation of programming to support student growth, and informed the construction of Lisle Elementary School.

We are proud to announce that Lisle High School was ranked #3 for DuPage County high schools by Chicago Magazine. This year Chicago Magazine completed an analysis of schools in Chicago and six surrounding counties (including DuPage County) to identify the top schools in the area. According to the magazine, “Calculations were done by the independent research nonprofit RTI International based on weighting instructions provided by Chicago.” (August, 2024) To determine the rankings, various data were included beyond the typical standardized testing scores provided by the Illinois State Board of Education from the 2022-2023 school year (the most recent available). The criteria for high schools included: spending per pupil, attendance, SAT reading and math attainment (and scores adjusted for income), 5Essentials, attendance, and graduation rate. We are honored to be recognized for the hard work and wonderful learning that occurs in our schools every day. Congratulations to all the students and staff!
