Robin’s Reviews By Robin Elliott

Star Wars Episode 7: Sal Hanvey – Nostalgia Queen So, the camera’s have started rolling on the next Star Wars movie and we now know that some of the movie is to be shot here in Northern Ireland! Maybe I should phone up and try and get a part? Well, that’s how actress Bronagh Gallagher ended up in Episode 1, I remember her telling me during an interview a few years ago. So, what do we know about the new Star Wars film, well Harrison Ford has been injured and out of action for a few weeks, Mark Hamill is also back and so is Carrie Fisher who is promising to her famous Princess Leia hair do. We also know that Chewbacca is also set to return alongside R2D2 and C3PO. JJ Abrams is on directing duties, so we should be in for a treat. The storyline takes place 35 years after Return of the Jedi after the Ewok celebration on Endor after the second Death Star was destroyed. Anyway, mark December 18th, 2015 in your calendars, because that’s when the new Star Wars will premiere in cinemas.

Christopher Lee – Metal Knight

Staying with a kind of Star Wars theme and Sir Christopher Lee has released a new heavy metal minialbum. The Hammer Horror Legend and Lord of the Rings star, who has just celebrated his 92nd birthday has worked with several heavy metal artists in recent years

Metal Knight features seven tracks, including two covers of songs from the musical Man of La Mancha, based on the character Don Quixote. His previous films Dracula, The Wicker Man and The Man with the Golden Gun have all inspired metal songs. Last year saw Lee become the

Batman and Robin

oldest performer to chart in the US after his version of ‘Jingle Hell’ reached number 18 on the Billboard countdown. He also released Heavy Metal Christmas back in 2012, featuring metal versions of the carols ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Little Drummer Boy’. Metal Knight is out now!

Yes, I have heard all the Batman and Robin jokes over the years but recently I did ended up at a photo shoot with Batman! The event was to promote the Oscar Knox Memorial Fundraiser in association with the Northern Ireland Children’s Hopsice. I will be on hosting duties at Hagues Bar in Lisburn on August 14th introducing many great acts who are supporting these worthwhile charities. Pictured as Batman is Michael McCabe.

One album that hasn’t been out of my CD player recently is Nostalgia Queen by local singer/songwriter Sal Hanvey.

Following her recent launch with an amzing nine piece band at the Black Box in Belfast, Sal’s album has been picking up lots of airplay and getting some great reviews including one in particular from 60’ s singing legend Donovan.

Donovan, who’s hits include Jennifer Juniper and Mellow Yellow said, “Sal is quite a gal. She blends jazz with her songs in a

fresh way.

Rising from her musical influences, she has found her own voice. Sal is Ireland’s new lady to listen and watch”. Recorded in Northern Ireland, Nostalgia Queen was mastered in London by Jon Astley who has worked with The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jools Holland, George

Harrison and Tori Amos. Amy Winehouse’s Saxophone player Aaron Liddard also plays on the album, which features eight original songs and two covers – Florence and The Machine’s Heavy In Your Arms and Joni Mitchell’s All I Want.
