This is a question I get asked quite often. It’s a fair question I am sure many other wine and liquor store owners get asked too. There are a couple of things you have to consider when having a liquor or wine store. 1. It is a lot of long hours, hard work, and stress. 2. You are surrounded by all types of alcohol in crazy amounts. 3. Wine and Liquor Sales Representatives are literally asking you almost every single day to try new products to put in your store. So, put all this together, and you've got, the recipe for premature alcoholism, unless you drink occasionally or in moderation. Premature alcoholism is the worst kind of premature anything that you can have.

Why am I telling you this? Because I grew up in a liquor store. Well, I grew up in a home, but my family has a liquor store business. So, I grew up in the business, and now I run the place for a few years. And long story short, I definitely drank way too much personally! Right now I'm doing another hundred day sober type thing. If you do have a liquor store and you have a drinking problem, that is bad news. You know what I'm saying? It's really hard to separate yourself from that stuff. And it's chemical, it's in your brain. It's difficult to kick the habit once the habit sets in. It sneaks up on you, and it certainly snuck up on me. I didn't even realize how much more I drink than like regular functioning people, my own age, or regardless of age, just way too much, every day, a couple shots. It's not like I'll get drunk, but it's like you have a shot here, you try this and that. Then, you get home, you have a glass of wine or you have a glass of whiskey, whatever. And, two years goes by and it turns out you've been drinking every day for 10 years. I am not an alcoholic by any means. But I have noticed by having to sample new wines, liquors and spirits over this long of a period of time, was a painful realization that I do not want this to turn into a life-long ‘bad’ habit for me. I don’t know if this is a warning or a public announcement, but if you're in the liquor business, please watch your alcohol intake personally! You know what I'm saying? Try to curb it, set goals for yourself if you do notice that you're drinking too much, just don't drink for 10 days or 100 days. I do a hundred days at a time. From what I found, it's pretty difficult for me to stop like the first 3 or 4 days. And then, what happens is it just gets easier.
