Paintings and Illustrations
Artwork I’ve done as a hobby as well as my AP art portfolio.
While I am currently a fourth-year majoring in architecture, I am very passionate about art and design. Painting and drawing is a hobby that I am always trying to refine whenever I get the chance. I have taken art classes in middle school and high school, and took an AP Drawing course as well. I am most comfortable with acrylic paint, but I have also used watercolors and gouache in the past. I have painted on numerous types of materials, including paper, canvas, T-Shirts, vases and shoes.
Model-making is also a skill that I enjoy, and it is one of my favorite parts of an architectural project. I have made two site models for two of my studio classes— both that were used for our midterm and final. I’ve worked with cardboard, chipboard, foam core, and museum board, and I’ve used hot glue and tacky glue for my projects. I also have experience with laser-cutting materials.

PHYSICAL MODELS
02
Mixed Use Multi-Family Housing Model Chunk
The goal of this project was to create a multi-family housing mixeduse complex. The residential part of the building was organized by unit type. The studio and one bedroom units are arranged into a courtyard, while the 2-bedroom units are stacked elsewhere. The materials I used for this building were a combination of concrete, metal and wood cladding. The design also utilized a metal screen for the facade.
After designing the building, we were required to take a chunk of our building and create a physical model at 1/4” = 1’-0” scale. This required many hours of measuring, cutting, painting, gluing and 3D printing.

Santa Ana Site Model
In order to design our mixed-use multi-family housing complex, we needed a physical model of the site. This model needed to show the surrounding site buildings, roads, and vegetation. We also modeled trains, cars, bicycles and people in order to show the scale of the model.

Mt. Wilson Site Model
This site model was also made for a midterm and final project. Our team was in charge of cutting and gluing the site together, as well as creating trees and buildings surrounding the site. This particular area we were designing on was on a sloped hill in the mountains. The model was built with foam core and involved the use of a laser cutting machine.

AP Drawing Portfolio
The following art pieces are from my AP Drawing portfolio. My sustained investigation concentration revolved around the idea of Kintsugi; Also known as “golden repair,” the Japanese art of using liquid gold to bring together pieces of broken pottery while simultaneously enhancing the breaks. Rather than throwing out the pieces and calling it a mistake, you take pride in the accident and turn the bad situation into a good one. Taking bad situations and finding good in them was an intriguing concept and a challenge I had to face while creating these pieces. I also had to learn to embrace my mistakes instead of beating myself up over them. Many pieces are black/white with the gold enhancing the main idea. The images are meant to portray “embracing imperfections” as well as the idea of “finding the good in the bad.”
I received a score of 4.00 for this portfolio.

Vans Custom Culture Contest
“Vans High School Custom Culture was created to inspire and empower high school students to embrace their creativity through art and design and bring attention to diminishing arts education budgets. Vans believes everyone should be empowered to express themselves creatively and should be given the tools to do so.”
These were the shoes submitted by my high school. I was part of the team in charge of designing and decorating our pair of shoes in my art class. The theme that our team had was called “Local Flavor.” Seeing as how our school was located in an area filled with Asian cuisine and culture, we decorated our shoes with different foods and cultural aspects of China, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines.
My contribution to the shoes:
- Painting the shoelaces and curling them to resemble a Chinese dragon
- Painting the flags onto the midsole of one shoe
- Painting the clouds, crane, sun, flowers and design onto the midsole of the other shoe
- Sewing the koi fish, cutting out water droplets, and creating the effect of a fish jumping out of the shoe
- Crafting the red dragon out of fabric, clay, and painted cardboard and paper
- Crafting the shrine and torii gate out of clay
- Crafting the bento box, crepe, and dango out of clay
- Crafting the zen garden using stones, sand, moss, and toothpicks for a bridge
