MOSQUE AS A SANCTUARY
This project explore what the role of architecture could be when the unpreventable natural disasters happen in the urban poor area, where they lack the infrastructure and funding for people to be less effected. Could a religions architecture, a mosque, be a shelter for the IDP’s? How could a spacial setting engage such hybrid action?
It realign themes of resilience architecture through speculative modes of climate situation within this narrative terrain. While the methodology of the project reflects a dialogue between technology and design, it is essential to recognize that the task is with a focus of speculative inquiry, aiming to critically assess opportunities and restraints of the specific site and program. Therefore, architecture and spatial potential will be weighted more than solving climate hazards.

A Rapid Growing City-Dar es salaam
Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania. About70-80 % of the population of Dar es Salaam is estimated to live in informal settlements, which are characterized by a lack of essential services, poor housing, insecure tenure, and overcrowding.
Riverine flooding Flooding, induced by climate change, is disproportionately impacting the lives of the poor urban population in an informal settlement in Dar es Salaam. Suna is an informal settlement whose residents experience high levels of vulnerability to flooding. Since Suna is also characterized by its Muslim community, during flooding times, mosques within the community that would open to IDP’s for temporary staying.
The central located Kichangani mosque accommodates most of the IDP's due to its high capacity. Moreover, Its nature typology is situating on the hill, so it is less affected by the rising water during flooding. However, the space is limited, and the stay of IDP's has been effecting the original daily function for prayer. Based on the existing situation, the project aims to use the current site of Kichangani mosque to design a hybrid mosque.
The mosque contains praying space, a Muslim school, shelters for IDP, and a storm reservoir.
Shelters for IDP'S: There are two types of shelters for IDP' S. The first type is for more permanent living spaces at the mosque entrance area. The other type is the small arch structure spaces surrounding the dome of the prayer hall, and it can be utilized when there is an emergency like flooding.

An Organic Farming System and Symbiotic Community
The Suistainable Strategies for the Tupana community
Since we can’t enlarge the cultivation area with the land restriction in the rainforest, the limitation of the vegetation from the poor soil and the lack of the clean water resources. And we are trying to avoid the deforestation caused by the traditional “slash and burn” agriculture approach.
In order to find the self-sufficient ways to help the poor living condition of the Tupana community, and to prevent the community from disappearing due to the climate change and the drain of the locals.
The vertical farm by introducing an organic aquaponic way collect the clean rainwater to cultivate the local fish and the vegetables together in a constructed, recirculating ecosystem to create the high production, the great variety of goods which could not produces by the acid soil before, and the job opportunities.
By synthesis the traditional family unit to a holistic community unit to apply the vertical farm, it become a medium to develop the eco forest agriculture, the eco tourism and the local handcrafts for the community in a sustainable way.
