Cough or sneeze into your elbow or by covering your mouth and nose with tissues.

Put used tissues in the bin or a bag immediately.

Wash your hands with soap and water often (for at least 20 seconds).

Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.

Avoid personal contact, such as kissing, sharing cups or food with sick people.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as doorknobs.

Stay home if you feel unwell.

Call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 if you have any symptoms and have been to any countries or territories of concern or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19.

Where did COVID-19 come from?

COVID-19 was first reported in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. It has since been reported in other provinces and in other countries. The latest information on this is available on the World Health Organization website.

We don’t know yet how COVID-19 is transmitted to people, but it’s likely that it comes from an animal. A live animal market called the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan City is suspected as the original source of COVID-19, but this has not been confirmed.

Many initial cases involved people who worked at or were handlers and frequent visitors to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market. The Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market has been temporarily closed to carry out environmental sanitation and disinfection.

What are the signs and symptoms of COVID-19?

Symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to a range of other illnesses such as influenza and do not necessarily mean that you have COVID-19. Symptoms include: • fever • coughing • difficulty breathing.

Difficulty breathing is a sign of possible pneumonia and requires immediate medical attention.

If you have these symptoms and have recently been to any country except those listed in the countries and areas of concern under Category 2, or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19, please contact Healthline (for free) on 0800 358 5453 (or +64 9 358 5453 for international SIMs) or your doctor immediately.

How does COVID-19 spread?

Like the flu, COVID-19 can be transmitted from person to person. The scientific evidence confirms that COVID-19 is spread by droplets. This means that when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks, they may generate droplets containing the virus. These droplets are too large to stay in the air for long, so they quickly settle on surrounding surfaces.

Droplet-spread diseases can be spread by: • coughing and sneezing • close personal contact • contact with an object or surface with viral particles on it and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes.

That's why it's really important to practice good hygiene, regularly wash and thoroughly dry your hands and practice good cough etiquette.

How do I protect myself and others from COVID-19?

You should always practice good hygiene by: • covering coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues • washing hands for at least 20 seconds with water and soap and drying them thoroughly: • before eating or handling food • after using the toilet • after coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose or wiping children’s noses • after caring for sick people.

People with symptoms of acute respiratory infection should practice good cough etiquette (maintain distance, cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues, and wash hands). If you have concerns, you can contact the dedicated COVID-19 Healthline for free on 0800 358 5453.

What should I do if I am immune-compromised or have immunecompromised children or whānau?

People with underlying medical conditions, such as a compromised immune system, liver disease, cancer, kidney disease, heart disease and diabetes mellitus, need to take more precautions to protect themselves against all infections, including COVID-19.

While New Zealand currently has very few cases of COVID-19 and no evidence of sustained person-to-person transmission in our communities, we recommend people take the following simple steps to protect yourself and others: • Avoid close contact with people with cold or flu-like illnesses.

• Cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or clothing.

• Wash hands for at least 20 seconds with water and soap and dry them thoroughly: • before eating or handling food • after using the toilet • after coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose or wiping children’s noses • after caring for sick people.

Additional measures that you and your whānau and friends can take include: If you are immune-compromised, avoid staying with a person who is self-isolating (because they are a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 or have recently travelled to any country except those listed in the countries and areas of concern under Category 2.)

You should stay at least 2 metres away from people who are unwell, if you are immunecompromised.

It's also important that everyone helps to protect the safety of immunocompromised people living in our community. For example, if you’re unwell, avoid contact with someone who is immune-compromised.

We recommend checking safe travel advice about COVID-19 if you plan overseas travel.

At this time, it wouldn’t make sense for someone who is immune-compromised to wear a mask when in public to decrease risk for catching COVID-19. However, if your health care provider advises you to wear a mask when in public areas because you have a particularly vulnerable immune system, follow that advice.

If you are taking immunosuppressive drugs we advise that you do not stop this medication without first consulting your GP or specialist.

Can you test for COVID-19?

Yes, New Zealand laboratories are able to test for COVID-19.

The Ministry is working closely alongside DHBs and public health units around the country and they will keep us up to date of any suspected cases.

Currently, there is no specific treatment for coronavirus, but medical care can treat most of the symptoms.

There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19 as it is a new virus. Researchers are in the early stages of developing one.

Desserts don’t come much easier than these scrumptious tarts. You can also use baby pastry cases – the mini versions make the perfect cocktail party food.

INGREDIENTS • • • • •

250 grams dark chocolate, chopped, melted 1 teaspoon vegetable oil 8 purchased sweet pastry tart shells, about 8cm across the top 200 grams dulce de leche or caramel condensed milk smoked sea salt or regular flaky sea salt

METHOD Stir the chocolate and oil together and set aside until cooled.

Divide the caramel evenly between the tart cases.

Spoon over the choclate and spread with the back of a teaspoon then top with a pinch of salt. Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes to set the chocolate.

INGREDIENTS •

16 chicken wings, tips cut off

•

1/3 cup tandoori curry paste (see Cook’s note)

•

2 tablespoons coconut cream

•

1/3 cup roasted peanuts, finely chopped

•

Sea salt

•

Fresh Herb and Ginger Relish (see recipe below)

Wings of any kind are always popular in my house. This three-ingredient version rates very highly and I never seem to cook enough.

METHOD Equipment: Line a large baking tray with baking paper.

Preheat the oven to 160ºC fan bake.

Combine the tandoori paste, coconut cream and chopped peanuts in a large bowl. Add the wings and turn to coat.

Place on the prepared baking tray and season with salt.

Roast for 40 minutes until golden and fully cooked through.

To serve: Arrange the wings on a platter and serve with the Fresh Herb Relish.

Cook’s note: My tandoori paste was quite soft. If using a firm paste, add another tablespoon of coconut cream so it will easily coat the wings.

Featuring: Suzanne Booth, Hibiscus Coast Youth Centre - Hibiscus and Bays The current Executive Director of the HBCYC, Suzanne Booth, is an experienced manager. Previously a senior executive for Ansett and Qantas National Airports and In-flight Services, she also served Rodney District Council as Manager Service Delivery for District Assets and Facilities, General Manager Waiwera Thermal Spa and Resort and managed Gulf Harbour Country Club out of receivership. She matches her commitment to youth development and the Centre’s mission, commencing in 2009, Suzanne sought out to avoid insolvency action at the Centre. After 2 weeks analysis, and business planning, she convinced the board and Auckland Council to pursue success for the youth in the district by re-building a ‘Safe Space for Youth’ – Keith Morris’s vision.

The HBCYC now provides mentoring, safe spaces to hang out, and youth services with over 1,000 connections each week, directly improving youth and community health, safety and wellbeing. Suzanne secures funding of over $400K per annum, to support a fastpaced organisation operating at minimal costs. She is motivated to keep this organisation 11

well presented, compliant and funded so the community can continue to benefit from the positive results in collaboration with so many organisations, parents and schools. The Centre is moving forward with a very specific strategic plan, which is anticipated to help with a more sustainable financial position over the next 2 years, alongside the experiences of their Executive Committee. They are excited to bed down a position that supports the future population growth and give the HBC Youth Centre a long term future.

All the team and volunteers work consistently, and tirelessly to achieve the best outcomes for all youth. Suzanne says, “I am proud of the people I work with to achieve the positive effects for not only youth but their whanau as well. The task is difficult, although we work as a team, supporting each other and most importantly not judging those struggling with their own health, financial status or wellbeing. Working with these people and the supporting community and organisations that support our youth’s future success is the most rewarding part of this role. Together we can do it…..”

Suzanne has worked as a senior executive with up to 1000 staff in multitask roles and found them exciting and challenging. The work undertaken under a Charity Status, is the same as any other business although it is assumed should be operated with mainly volunteers and is more difficult to manage with the minimal staff, multitasking of everyone’s roles, training to deliver a high level of governance verses achieving the most important outcomes for our youth. Expert senior roles are hard to fund and are vital for the success of the HBC Youth Centre.

These people must be passionate about youth, experienced, reliable and mostly financially rewarded for their roles. Our community is not in a position mostly, to offer their expert time without being paid. Securing funds for these roles is difficult as the funds the Centre raises need to go into the demand for services for our youth.

Suzanne advises, “We have 12

improved delivering to the demand for service with visitation increasing from 240 per week, 8 years ago to now over 1000 per week. Receiving the current level of operational support from many funders ensures this demand for service can be maintained, assisted by 90 to 240 hours of volunteer time per week and delivered at a very low expense level in comparison.”

Approximately 70% of the Centre’s services are FREE to youth, families AND the community. They are more than a preventative mental health program provider, and provide a spiderweb of prevention services that has become the linchpin for many collaborative organisations, from local businesses to Central Government, helping achieve success for youth. The stories are broad, varied and many.

The Centre must raise over $450K per annum to meet the current level of service. At the moment, they raise 1/3 of that themselves now ($24K, 8 years ago), and the rest is through donations and grants.

Sustainability financially is elusive considering the FREE nature of services provided, reflected in their Constitution and Strategic Objectives. Suzanne says, “We have already significantly improved income as you can see, however, increased demand, increased Free Services, increased costs. - - It is important to accept this business is not like a Leisure Centre where everyone pays a fee, but a large youth facility, open each day, for free, for youth to feel they belong and get support from experienced supervisors while developing youth leaders and future leaders.”

Pride is a huge part of the outcomes for youth. They take pride in their Youth Facility, keeping it clean and tidy. While this is valuable and important, the facility continuously needs upgrading and renewing. There are many areas that require support and help, such as a new roof, upgrading the youth café kitchen, plumbing upgrades, electrical renewals, outside facility water blasting and painting and replacement flooring. The Centre are preparing a full Capex and Renewal replacement program this year and will seek funding.

However, if any organisations are looking to give back, the Centre would love to help them do that.

Suzanne comments, “We feel it is very important to acknowledge everyone that helps us help youth, including youth themselves. WE love to tell our story and how individuals can be helped through life or how they can help us help others. This needs a good chat, so come along and have one.”

Regular exercise and activity is hugely important to anyone at any age, but it is particularly crucial for adults who want to age well into their 60s, 70s and beyond.

Regular exercise results in physical and metablic improvements in areas such as blood pressure, heart function and blood sugar regulation - all of which can become more concerning with age.

As if that is not enough, regular exercise has been proven beyond doubt to improve concentration and memory function and, perhaps most rewarding of all, to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Being active also has a direct impact on how easy and comfortable it is to perform everyday activities - known as ADLs (Activities of Daily Living).

What are the ADLs that exercise can help with?

These are things that younger adults all take for granted but as we gget older they become key factors in wheather or not we can continue to be independent and carry on doing the activities and hobbies that we love.

Walking - Going up and down stairs and slopes, negotiating curbs and corners Gardening - Carrying, lifting, bending, kneeling, pushing, clipping Getting Up and Down - Getting in and out of cars, sofas and chairs, the bath, on or off the toilet.

Moving Things - Lifting and carrying loads like shopping, household objects, pets or children.

Dressing - Putting on shoes and socks, doing up bras, getting in and out of shirts and coats. “If exercise could be put in a pill, it would be the most widely prescribed medicine in the world�

The first film has the edge among this poll's respondents, but Part II has die-hard fans as well. "It's one of those movies," says producer Albert Berger, "that has every element of cinema working at the highest level. And it's entertaining, and it says something about our country."

Among those in their 60s, it was the third-most-popular picture, while among those in their 20s, it was 37th. Also not a big shocker, men and women had different opinions: Casablanca was males' third-favorite film and females' 14th. But then, men always prefer their love stories with Nazis in them.

In fact, Miramax's Pulp Fiction might be the most influential movie made during the 1990s, inspiring scads of imitators (nicknamed Tarantinies) and dozens of knockoffs. All that Shawshank love apparently came after the film's unexceptional theatrical release, when it began popping up on cable TV nearly as regularly as Geico commercials.

In 2013, 151 hours of basic cable time was devoted to airing the 142-minute movie. That's 21

You've got to tell us who he was." — Rawlson Critics have hailed this for decades as "the greatest American movie ever made," making it an all-too-easy pick for anyone's greatest-movie list. But not all moviegoers, especially younger ones, are enthralled with the story of Charles Foster Kane and his longlost sled. Among poll respondents in their 20s, for instance, it was only the 26th-favorite film. Among the under-20s, it was 53rd. Among those over 60, though, it was No. 1 or 2.

In fact, it's the mostwatched film of all time, according to the Library of Congress, thanks to regular showings on broadcast television since the mid-1950s (and on cable since the '90s). That's not including sequels and prequels, which Hollywood keeps releasing each decade like swarms of flying monkeys. The most recent, Oz the Great and Powerful, starring James Franco as a hunky young wizard, grossed more than $230 million domestically. That yellow brick road clearly is made of gold.

In a feat of creative alchemy arguably unsurpassed before or since, Coppola and his collaborators turned the Mafia melodrama into popular art that satisfies on every possible level -as a family drama, a crime saga, a visual and musical ravishment and an impeccable evocation of a historical period.

Godfather is 42 years old, meaning anyone who saw it when it came out in 1972 is pushing 60 or older. This suggests its narrative power, extraordinary performances and mythic values register as strongly for younger viewers as they did at the time. The film also happens to stand at the precise midpoint between the arrival of sound films and the present. It is both classical and modern, traditional in its storytelling and contemporary in its critical perspective. It's a film that does it all. — Todd McCarthy
