About the Carlyle Hotel The Carlyle did not gain a reputation as a presidential hotel until John F. Kennedy lived there. Kennedy owned a seven-room apartment on the 34th and 35th stories, where he stayed just prior to his inauguration in January 1961.

The Carlyle was the last place John F. Kennedy Jr. ate breakfast before he, his wife, and his wife's sister were killed in the 1999 Martha's Vineyard plane crash. Diana, Princess of Wales, frequently stayed at the Carlyle before her death. According to the Carlyle Hotel managing director Marlene Poynder, members of the royal families of Denmark, Greece, Spain, and Sweden have stayed at the hotel.

In the Carlyle's early years, figures such as Truman Capote, Frank Sinatra, and George Harrison frequently gathered at the hotel, and the actress Ingrid Bergman was among the relative few celebrity tenants. Others include Michael Jackson, Elton John, and Leontyne Price, in addition to the actors Julie Andrews, Anjelica Huston, Jack Lemmon, Jack Nicholson, and Burt Reynolds.

Other celebrity guests that have frequented the hotel have included Isabella Rossellini, Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Annette Bening, Warren Beatty, and Robin Williams.

In the late 20th century, the businessman Henry Ford II owned a co-op apartment on the 34th and 35th floors. Other foreign royals who have stayed at the Carlyle include Princess Grace of Monaco;[ King Hussein of Jordan;[24] and the monarchs of Denmark, Sweden, Spain, and Greece.

After the park, back to the Carlyle Hotel around 10:30 P.M. for a few more shots, and the closing party where we all did a lot of networking, and we drank champagne and Guinness and ordered steaks and some kind of lobster dish. We all saluted Andy Spade and Kate Spade and thanked Andy for a great shoot. One last time we asked Isabel (from Germany) to say “Harvard.” She relented, much to our delight. Gray said to her “I will never forget you, Isabel...never the rest of my life!” So, ultimately, I left my wonderful family behind. As Gray said, I will never forget them.

October 2013 The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word "tweedy" as: "of a robust traditional or rural character (by association with the country gentry who traditionally wear tweeds)." This definition is rapidly becoming outdated. This is Wool Week, and the Campaign for Wool (founded by the Prince of Wales in 2010 to raise awareness of the benefits of wool) tells us that the past five years have seen a significant revival of the cloth, with sales of Harris tweed increasing by more than 400%.

Harris tweed is made from pure, virgin wool dyed and spun by islanders in the Outer Hebrides, hand-woven in the Outer Hebrides and finished in the Outer Hebrides. It is the only fabric produced in commercial quantities by traditional methods, and is recognisable worldwide for its rich colours, created by the unique process of dying the wool before spinning.

From chasingfox.com Cubbing is one of many seasons that we go out Hunting. Cub hunting is before the formal season begins and is used to benefit the young entry by introducing them to the pack. It is typically a slower pace as this is a period when horses, hounds and riders are being conditioned. With all that said, what are we supposed to wear? First let me say, if you’re new to Hunting, come out with any turnout that is neat and tidy, we’ll convert you to the dark side later.

The attire for Cubbing is referred to as ‘Ratcatcher’ (we’ll get into where the name came from on another day). So the most important piece in this “Kit” (we call our hunting outfits kits) is a tweed coat. Remember, it takes years to build a great kit, so do the best you can with what you have. Email us if you have any questions!

RATCATCHER HUNT KIT 1.

Tweed Coat, muted wool, single or double vent, with three buttons.

2.

A collared shirt with a man’s tie or a hunting shirt (show shirt) with a tattersall stock tie.

3.

Breeches, buff, tan or rust.

4.

String gloves or light tan, never white.

5.

Boots, brown or newmarket field boots if you’ve got them. Black field boots are fine too.

Helmet, black or brown, ribbons up please, we are not staff.

After the hunt, dinner at 20 Portman Square Home House, “Tweedland” the gentleman’s club.

In 1773, George III’s architect, James Wyatt, was commissioned by Elizabeth, Countess of Home, to build a sophisticated ‘Pavilion’ designed purely for enjoyment and entertainment at N° 20 Portman Square. The Countess, aptly known as ‘The Queen of Hell’ , was in her late 60’s, twice widowed, childless and rich.In 1775, Wyatt was sacked from the project and his competitor Robert Adam, one of the most celebrated architects of his day, was appointed to complete the interior of the house in the sumptuous NeoClassical style. N° 20 Portman Square is acknowledged as Robert Adam’s finest surviving London town house. The interior is conceived as a series of grand reception rooms, beginning with a typically austere hall, leading to one of the most breathtaking “tour de forces” in European architecture; Adam’s Imperial staircase, which rises through the entire height of the house to a glass dome, revealing the sky above.

On the ground floor are the Front Parlour and Eating Room, the latter being decorated with symbolic paintings of banquets and the harvest by Zucchi, the husband of artist Angelica Kauffman. On the first floor is a series of ‘Parade Rooms’ featuring the Ante-room, the Music Room, the Great Drawing Room and finally, one of the most original rooms in England, the Countess’s Etruscan State Bedroom, whose pagan decorations derive from the excavations of Pompeii.

Kate Spade created a new contemporary fashion style in the 1990 with her “proto-1960’s bouffant, nerd glasses, she made a hit with cosmopolitan women world wide. There is even a photo of Jackie Kennedy with one of her hand bags.

The style was quite conservative but chic, very tweedy.

My First Kate Spade Fashion Shoot As I recall, I was minding my own business (or getting into everybody's business) one day hanging around in front of the art center. The Center’s building is not just an ordinary building. It is a national treasure and looks rather like a millionaire's mansion. It is actually an old bank building from the Civil War era. Anyway, that day I was chatting to passersby on the street. It was also the day a major film studio happened to be shooting a movie scene at the Center...I think with Robert DeNiro. So there was a lot of commotion with movie directors, extras, production crew and the like. A lot of movies are shot here because it is an interesting location. We have had police dramas for TV's "Third Watch," rap video shoots, and even fashion shoots with Vogue Magazine, among others. A complete film, "Pooty Tang," with Chris Rock was shot here a couple years ago and Fox Films used our space for holding while shooting the film "Siege."
