LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Maybe it’s nerdy, but I really love looking each year at the Community Data Snapshot that the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) produces. They take the 13,268 people of Lincolnwood and break them down into many different categories. How many work at home? How many have 1 car, 2 cars, or none? Not only is it interesting, but it’s also very useful in trying to make sure our collections, programs, and services are giving the community what they need.

According to the CMAP snapshot, Lincolnwood has a substantial number of senior residents. Almost a third of the community (28%) is made up of people aged 65 and older. As you’ll see in the newsletter’s center spread, as part of our strategic plan, we decided to assess whether our older residents and other homebound people are getting to take full advantage of their library. After all, they are taxpayers, too.

We already deliver weekly to our local residential senior living communities—Lincolnwood Place and the Carrington—and we’re happy to bring more books, DVDs, etc. on our visits there. But we suspect that many seniors are in their homes, and while many of them can and do visit the library in person, we want to know how many people aren’t able to come in. The snapshot tells us that 13% of the community has at least one disability.

Sometimes people have a temporary problem that makes getting to the library difficult—an injury, surgery, or an illness. Some don’t have reliable transportation. There may be library lovers out there who never get to come to the library, so we are trying to find out if some of them would like the library to come to them.

If it turns out that this is a service the community needs, it will not get up and running instantly. We’ll want to plan it thoughtfully and spend our funds and our time wisely. But we won’t know if it’s needed without your letting us know—so please do fill out the postcard in the middle if you or someone you care for would love to use the library… at home. We will really appreciate your help!

Bringing the Library

We want to hear from you!

Lincolnwood Library is seeking feedback to determine the community’s need for Home Delivery service. If the Library proceeds with introducing this service, Home Delivery would provide library materials like books, DVDs, and more to Lincolnwood residents who are unable to visit us in person due to health, mobility, or access to transportation. If any of these reasons are keeping you or someone you know from using your Library, please complete this survey and mail it back to us.

Library to You

Why Home Delivery?

As part of our current Strategic Plan, Lincolnwood Library is committed to making our services accessible to everyone. Our goal is to ensure that all community members—regardless of age, mobility, or ability—can fully benefit from everything the library has to offer.

This potential Home Delivery service is one way we’re working to adapt and expand how resources are delivered, so no one misses out on the power of books, movies, and more.

Return your completed survey by October 1st, 2025.
