Today, the soldiers’ dream and Lincoln University’s mission lives on, as we celebrate the next chapter of our university’s leadership with the investiture of Dr. John B. Moseley as Lincoln’s 21st president.

The History of Lincoln University

More than 157 years ago, as the Civil War approached its certain end, the seed of a dream began to take root among the men of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantries and their white officers. The veterans turned their dream into reality when they raised enough money to found Lincoln University in 1866 for the benefit of freed African TheirAmericansgenerous gift created a pathway to higher education for thousands of proud Lincoln alumni.

Dr. Moseley has nearly 20 years of higher education experience. He arrived at Lincoln in April 2014 as head basketball coach and became athletic director two years later. He served as interim president of Lincoln from May 2021 until his permanent appointment as president in January 2022. Since taking the helm at Lincoln, Moseley has led key initiatives to improve the university’s first-year enrollment

The Lincoln University of Missouri Board of Curators selected John B. Moseley as the university’s 21st president on Jan. 28, 2022.

5 through new, data-driven admissions strategies and the restructuring of scholarship programs. He has also implemented initiatives to improve student outcomes, such as Lincoln’s new Academic Success Center. Moseley is at the forefront of fundraising efforts for the Lincoln University Health & Security Sciences Institute, which will expand the University’s School of Nursing and complement the Lincoln University Law Enforcement Training Academy and criminal justice program. Moseley was born and raised in Warren County, North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise and sports science from East Carolina University in 1998 and a Master of Arts in education from East Carolina in 1999. In the spring of 2021, Moseley completed his doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis at the University of MoseleyMissouri.resides in Jefferson City, Missouri, with his wife, Crystal, an assistant professor at Lincoln, and their daughter, Jillian.

IngridMcCree,WickerEd.D., the founder and CEO of WM Leadership & Legacy Coaching LLC, has an impressive and storied career as a higher education leader with more than 25 years in diverse roles. She made history in 2008 when she became the first female to hold the permanent title of director of athletics at North Carolina Central University, and she was one of the driving forces behind NCCU’s reclassification to NCAA Division I. She has served in various leadership positions at conference and national organizations, including multiple NCAA national and local boards such as the NCAA Division I Council, the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the Durham Sports Commission, and she was an inaugural member on the executive committee of the recently formed Black AD

Alliance, established to promote the growth, development and elevation of Black athletics administrators at the Division I level. A native of Durham, North Carolina, Wicker McCree earned her undergraduate degree in criminal justice from George Washington University — where she played as a volleyball student-athlete, lettering four seasons — and a master’s degree in recreation resources administration and doctorate in higher education administration, both from North Carolina State University. Her accolades include membership in four athletics halls of fame: C.E. Jordan High School, NCCU Alex Rivera Hall of Fame, the George Washington University Hall of Fame and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) John B. McLendon Hall of Fame.
