The Honors Program
is a living learning community committed to service and scholarship. It contributes to the development of global citizens who can think critically and engage with their communities, states and the world. These citizens will be well prepared for success in graduate school, professional studies and work environments.
Four Pillars
Every member of the Honors Program demonstrates all of the qualities of the Lincoln University Honors Program’s four pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.
Pledge
I pledge to uphold the high purpose of the Lincoln University Honors Program to which I have been selected; I will be true to the principles for which it stands; I will behave responsibly and ethically at all times and treat with dignity and respect all persons with whom I interact with as a member of the Lincoln University Honors Program. I will be loyal to my school and will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.
Mission
The mission of the Lincoln University Honors Program is to provide our diverse student body with enhanced interdisciplinary experiences that are intellectually challenging and enriching beyond the traditional university experience. The Honors Program seeks to provide an environment in which our most academically motivated students can achieve more than they ever imagined.
History
In 1965, Lincoln University established the Honors Program to encourage students to develop their unique academic talents and abilities to their fullest potential. The Lincoln University Honors Program was designed to stimulate and challenge students of superior ability and interest. The original selection process involved three phases: (1) invitations to all students who scored in the 80th percentile on the SCAT test, informing them of the new program and asking them to attend an interview with members of the Honors Committee; (2) complete a 15-minute interview with invited students; (3) final selection of honors students based on the test scores, interview data and high school records.
The committee selected 19 students to join the first official version of the Lincoln University Honors Program and participate in various honors-level courses. Although shortcomings among entering freshmen emerged in this first version — academic inadequacy, timidity and apathy — the program also revealed a bright discovery of 19 imaginative, inventive and adventurous students who were excited and exciting.
Since 2015, Lincoln University has worked to establish a concrete foundation for the Honors Program. We continue to strive not for perfection but for a plan and program that will help every one of our scholars become well-rounded individuals academically, professionally and personally.

The Alma Mater
Lincoln, O, Lincoln
We thy proud children are; Thou art our guiding star, Lincoln, believe.
Ours are hearts that yearn for thee No matter where we be; Morning, noon, and always, we Are Lincolnites.
Thy name, O, Lincoln Shall e’er to us be dear. Thy mem’ries sacred, near Hold us to thee.
Thy honors ours shall be, Thy cause when just shall we With loyalty defend –For thee we’d die.
Lincoln, O, Lincoln!
We thy proud children are; Our hearts both near and far Love thee with delight. No matter where we are; Whether present, absent, far, Morning, noon, we always are True Lincolnites!
Star-Spangled Banner
O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there, O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
