Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word Some of our older readers will know that is the title of a song written by Eric Clapton. However, I can bet my 2004 beat-up white Rav 4 that all of us, even those who don’t know the song, know the feeling as we have been a position where we had difficulty saying that we were wrong. It’s not always easy to say “I’m sorry” but it is often necessary. It eases our conscience, it repairs relationships and it paves the way for a sort of freedom from the burden of carrying around a weight of guilt or pain. Most of us have difficulty admitting we were wrong because we think that it makes us weak and we would have lost something to the person we are apologizing to; and make no mistake, some people will rub your nose in it, if they catch you doing something wrong or if they feel wronged by you. Some of the folks we offend enjoy being the victim, so they will milk it for all it’s worth. However, I want you to always remember, that the ability to admit a mistake is a trait of the strong and noble. It takes guts and gumption and it’s totally worth it. Here are some ways to consider approaching such a sensitive matter: • Take responsibility for your words or actions that affected someone else • You can explain your behavior, but don’t excuse it • Be sincere and apologetic and empathetic when necessary • Be prepared to accept the consequences So if you know you have wronged someone, 11

whether by your words or your actions or even your attitude, find a way to make amends. It won’t always guarantee a restoration of the relationship, but it will guarantee a freedom in your soul and your integrity will be admired. ................................................................................. Send your comments to askkoren@live.com. I love hearing from you.

Devious Minds Chapter 18

It’s been three months and I still can’t believe that I was the reason she’s no longer here. After days of negotiating with Mr. Blake, we finally broke ground and settled. He looked at the designs I had on the table with Luie Sniles and some other ones I recently finished. He picked a few for the company and told me to make sure Luie bought the rest. For years I’ve been at this company and Jessica has been giving me grief. Look at me now that I finally have the balls to speak up. I was getting respect from my peers, boss and I also had a personal line coming out. After suggestions from my siblings and friends, I finally decided I was going to try this makeover thing again. I was going to the salon this Friday after work and then shopping on Saturday. Saturday morning rolled around so fast, I had just shut off my alarm and kicked my sheet off to head in to the bathroom. After handling my hygiene, I went to the kitchen and saw that Diana was already up making eggs, so I sat at the counter while waiting on my share and made small conversation. “Good morning bighead,” I greeted my sister. “Diamond your head is bigger than mines so don’t come with that,” she replied and we both laughed.

Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

“B!tch we are identical triplets, all our heads the same size,” I reminded her. “Na, yours slightly bigger, check the mirror again,” Diana teased as she set a plate in front of me. It was now 9:45am and Destiny was just smelling the food, she ran out of her room looking for her plats. I just laughed at her and got up to put my dishes in the dishwasher and retreated back to the safety of my room to get ready for the day. While walking away, I heard those two arguing and then Diana telling Destiny that her plats was in the microwave. I ended up in a lingerie store after first arriving at the mall and scanning the stores to see which one I wanted to go to first. I needed new undies for a minute now but I hated shopping and had been putting it off for a while. I also needed to get a correct bra measurement, so I decided to get one for the store clerks to pay some attention to me. After telling her what I wanted, she took me into the changing room right away and brought some choices for me to try on. I ended up getting what she chose with the matching undies and I even got a few pieces for my sisters and Theresa.

12

The main reason I wanted to shop alone was because I didn’t want the gang’s input. I was going to make this change for me and I was going to take it at my own pace in my own way. I promised myself I would dress modern but nothing too tight or too revealing. I didn’t want to give any men any ideas. After hitting up a few more stores, Mac was my final destination. As much as I wasn’t a fashionista, I always wear makeup. Natural glam was my favorite all time look but this time I was going to get some coloured lipstick and the items I had run out off.

13

The food court at the mall was always full so I hopped in a taxi and asked him to stop to get some pizza before I headed home, because knowing my gang, even if they weren’t home, they would eat again before heading to bed. I was happy when I got home and they weren’t there, that meant I could put away my stuff before they became nosey. I made sure to put all their gifts in the bag in front of their doors and I would take Theresa’s and Patrick’s down the hall for them tomorrow. I am tired now and will be going to bed. I hope I’m asleep before they get back home.

Skillful Ballers Host Weekend U20 Bball Tournament Skillful Ballers Basket Ball Club, will host the first post hurricane Irma U20 and U13 tournament at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Friday to Sunday. “I decided to host the first tournament in the BVI since hurricane Irma and I’m bringing teams from abroad to get basketball going here,” event coordinator and coach Ronnie “Gola” Norman said, noting that teams from St. Eustatius, St. Thomas, Virgin Gorda and Tortola will be in action. “This tournament is to help the kids see what it’s like playing against different teams from here and abroad, to get them off the island so they should work hard for what they want to do.” Both U20 and U13 teams tuned up during a weekend Inter-island tournament in St. Eustatius. Norman said his teams have been preparing well and they’re currently playing in the North Sound Basketball Association Winston Jackpat Memorial League. The tournament format he said will see the four U20 teams meeting on Friday night with the losers playing the winners in each bracket on Saturday. The finals will be played on Sunday morning. The U13 teams will play exhibition games. “I was really glad for the weekend tournament to see how the players fit because most of the players who are going to be in the tournament here, were unable to make it there,” he noted. “There were some that I was also looking at who went to St. Eustatius, who I was looking to see how they would do in the tournament there.” Ballers U20 Captain Devante “Vante” Brewley,

said playing abroad and winning games has helped their confidence. “We’re ready to play,” Brewley said. “We’re just looking to execute everything we’ve learned in practice and play at our best. Preparations have gone well. We have been practicing every day and getting ready. We have great expectations to win so look out for us.” With lots of practice under their belt, Brewley said he’d like to see more youth basketball competitions locally, to help them get better and have further developmental opportunities. “The BVI has talent. Everybody can play,” he noted. “We like playing against each other and bringing out that competition.” An opening ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The tournament schedule is as follows: Friday: 5:30 p.m. Opening Ceremony U13 Time to Shine vs St. Eustatius U20 Skillful Ballers vs Virgin Gorda U20 St. Thomas vs St. Eustatius U20 6:00 p.m. Saturday U13 Skillful Ballers vs St. Eustatius U20 Loser Friday’s Game 2 vs Winner Game 3 U20 Looser Games 3 vs Winner Game 2 10:00 a.m. Sunday U20 Loser Game 2 vs Loser Game 3 U20 Winner Game 2 vs Winner Game 3
