Last night my daughter reprimanded me about my behavior. I was so struck that I had to gather my thoughts before I could answer her. It’s a fact that we haven’t painted in a long time. Truth is, as an art lover, participating in painting is not one of the aspects I’m fond of. Besides, I hate to have that kind of cleaning up to do afterwards. Many times she asked and I told her to ask daddy, but she never bites. Here are some of our weekend activities that she asked for and I promised it can happen. I’m sharing with you so you can do it with your little lady (or guy). Painting. As a lover of art herself, her first request is usually to paint. If you don’t have any supplies, you can find affordable ones at J&C, Vanterpool Enterprises and the Variety Store in QWOMAR Building (it faces the BVI Ports Authority building). You will need water-based paint in the various colours you desire, a pack of construction paper and some paint brushes in various sizes. To make

things more exciting, you can print a few images from the internet and try to re-create what you see. Now at home, if you don’t have an easel/canvas you can just get a piece of foam or something solid just to stick the paper to and keep it firm so it won’t move around. Make believe Tea Party. This one can definitely be enjoyed with your little lady and I guarantee she won’t stop showering you with kisses after. For this, if you don’t have tea party toys, you can get a pack at either Cash & Carry or the variety store in the QWOMAR Building for under $10. Now here’s the catch mommy, you have to let your little lady set up her area and make her own rules. You will be a guest at her tea party. Just enjoy your make believe tea and imaginary food. Don’t forget to tell her it’s the best thing you ever tasted. Also don’t be surprised if it doesn’t suddenly turn into a doll styling session that will end up with your hair getting done (or maybe it’s just my daughter, she just loves combing my hair). Movie time. Okay, so this one was beyond my control but luckily, I have it it now. We missed Movie Nite at the Pier Park last weekend due to the weather and my little lady was looking forward to seeing The Little Mermaid. I plan to surprise her with it on Friday night for our movie over dinner. If you don’t have the The Little Mermaid, you can choose something that your mini-you loves to watch and enjoy the film with each other. I would love to hear about how your weekend turns out, please share your painting photos with us on our Facebook page. Vol. 31, 41 / Jan 30 - Feb 5, 2020

Devious Minds Chapter 14

It was now Summer and time for the Triplets’ annual family picnic in the park. “Girl what time are you heading over to the park? It’s unlike you to be late. Are you still pissed off at mommy?” Diamond asked her sister Diana who seemed to not be getting ready. “I’m going, but not with you guys, I’ll be a little,” Diana replied. “Oh okay, well don’t be too late you know how they get and we don’t want our side to be the centre of drama this time around,” Diamond said. She turned around and went over to Destiny’s room to see if she was ready so they could head out. Just as the two were heading out, there was a knock at the door indicating that Patrick and Theresa were ready to roll. “Aren’t we missing someone? Where is thing three?” Theresa asked, referring to Diana. “She will be joining us later, not now,” Destiny told them as they walked out the building. It was not 2pm and Diana and this mysterious man walked into the park. Spotting her daughter, her mother walked over to them quickly. “Hi, I’m Diana’s Mom, welcome and your name is?” “Wassup shawdy, they call me Slick,” Slick responded while pulling his pants up a bit. “Excuse me, I’m not your shawdy. Learn how to speak to an adult. Diana, where did you find this hoodlum?” “Mom, it’s rude to insult people. Slick is my man. Let’s go grab a seat baby,” Diana said, while walking away Diana’s mother was so shocked she couldn’t move until her husband came over to her. Before he could say anything she said, “Did you see who Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

your daughter came here with? You better talk to her before I act the fool.” “Calm down honey, she is a grown woman. Don’t make a bigger scene in front of the family giving them something to talk about,” her husband told her. “Aye Ms. Shawdy where you want me to take these?” Slick asked Diana’s mother. He was helping with the clean up. Fuming she replied, “Over there by that green trash bin, while you’re there how about jumping in it one time.” “Mom!” Diamond who overheard her, shouted at her. “Mom, you can’t talk to people like that, it’s not godly or nice.” “Nice? Li’l girl please, your sister brought this disrespectful trash here and I must be nice? I’m not his Shawdy,” her mom replied before storming off. Diana was in close range and she went grabbed Slick then they left. It was about 9pm when Diana walked into her apartment complex. She was shocked to see her father waiting with the gang on her. They stood staring at her for a few minutes then they all burst out into laughter. “Young lady, your mother will kill you when she gets her hands on you,” Diana’s father said. “She will kill you too once she finds out about your part in today’s fiasco,” she replied. “I have no recollection of the matter at hand. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it,” her father replied. They all burst out laughing again. Trying to control her laughter, Diana asked her father how he managed to get out of the house without mom. Turns out our aunts were over there gossiping. 12

Feed Yourself How many days can we go without food? Some say 21 days if there is water consumption and some say longer. Most of us are not willing to try…not for love or for money are we giving up our three square meals a day with snacks in between. I myself am trying to eat less but I have a very good relationship with food. We understand from school how vital food is for our bodies because it provides minerals and vitamins and nourishment and energy and all that. What though about other forms of fuel? How do we feed ourselves with the non-physical forms of food and how important is that also to our emotional and mental health and wellbeing. Here are some ways in which we can feed our mind and spirit: • Love and respect your being. Treat yourself with the love and respect that you crave from other people. Make time for self-care and be really good to you in the way you would someone who is special.

13

• Consume enlightening material – while nothing is wrong with reading and watching TV purely for entertainment and we all need that sometimes, it’s important that some of what you consume provides enlightenment. It must help you to be a better person or add some value to your life. • Learn and grow. Every week you should be able to look back and reflect and see how you have grown. The challenges you face make you stronger, the blessings you receive should make you more generous. Feed yourself with opportunities to grow into a more wonderful version of you. • Acknowledge your efforts. Feed yourself with acknowledgement. We often complain about what we haven’t accomplished and how much we overate or overspent but we don’t spend enough time acknowledging that every day we get up and keep going is phenomenal. Feed yourself some compliments. There is physical growth and there is also growth in other areas of our life. Let’s feed ourselves and we can only get stronger and better.

Al Leonard Breaks Into Sports Agency Market Al Leonard of East End, has broken into the sports agency market to represent athletes with the launch of Tropical Sports Agency. Leonard, a former softball baseball player launched Tropical Sports Agency five months ago, breaking into the highly competitive field. Among those Leonard have signed so far, is Leslee Smith of Long Look, to a contract with the Plymouth Raiders in the British Basketball League. How did he get there when most of the territory’s athletes, after their playing careers have faded into obscurity and have no connection with sports, even though there are numerous opportunities outside of being confined within the boundaries of the playing field as a player? The former Public Works employee, who now resides in New York where he launched the agency and is currently working on a Masters Degree in Sports Management, said he picked the brains of some players he grew up with about what is being done for them on the professional level and learned about the misrepresentation—which didn’t sit well with him. He said that he did something similar with basketball players and international players including NBA players, who expressed similar sentiments which also didn’t sit well with him. He continued probing. “I met with a guy on the Brooklyn Nets who almost led the NBA in blocks last year and he told me that he had no endorsements,” Leonard said. “I don’t

see how you’re seen as the guy who almost led the NBA in blocks without endorsements. I think that’s underrepresentation, so that led me to start the sports agency to say, hey, this isn’t cool and I can do a better job.” Leonard added: “I must say it has been going rather well. It’s five months in and I’m extremely excited for the future.” Leonard said he had several conversations with Smith—who came home in 2019 and had been misrepresented— and they looked at where he is now and what he’ll do for him over the summer and going forward. “Misrepresentation will make you want to give up and go on to the next stage of your life,” Leonard explained of Smith’s case as well. “We had that conversation about his attitude, being disciplined and putting in the work to get back to the stage he was, when he was in the British Basketball League. He’s not quite there yet, but, he’s a hard worker and working on it.” “A lot of times we get guys into sports and we forget that they have to do schoolwork,” he said. “You can’t go anywhere without education. In order to be somebody, education is key, because not every athlete will go pro.” He encourages youngsters to have recordings of their play and to examine it to see where they can improve.
