very special year for our school community – namely the big move to our permanent home in Towlerton, Castletroy. It is only fitting that we begin the next chapter of our school journey with the official launch of our very first digital newsletter – the purpose of which will be to provide students with a sense of ownership of their learning, take pride in it and take responsibility for improving it. This digital newsletter will be a showcase for you to see it for yourself and celebrate all that makes our school the success that it is today.

In this issue, we will showcase the many highlights of the 2023/24 year to date. In addition to the virtual tour of our new campus, we will be showcasing our many successes and achievements in school, from the playing pitches, school trips and so much more. Furthermore, we have had great success on the national stage with the school being recognised as an Apple Distinguished School –one of only 13 schools in the country to be awarded this status. This was further topped off with the school being awarded the Gold Award for One Good School by Jigsaw in recognition of our promotion of mental health and wellbeing in LETSS. We hope you enjoy reading this first edition of our newsletter and look forward to your feedback and suggestions for future issues. Many thanks to all the staff and students for their contributions to this digital newsletter.

An Ghaelbhratach

GAEILGE

Tá tús curtha againn leis an bpróiséas chun an Ghaelbhratach a fháil don scoil.

Is scéim ghradaim í an Ghaelbhratach a thugann aitheantas do scoileanna a ghníomhaíonn le húsáid na Gaeilge a chur chun cinn tríd an scoil ar fad.

Eagrófar imeachtaí éagsúla sa scoil sna seachtainí atá romhainn amach agus táimid go léir ag súil leis an scéim a chur i bhfeidhm agus an teanga a chur chun cinn i Meánscoil Luimnigh ag Foghlaim le Chéile

IN THIS ISSUE:

Cuireadh tús le Club Gaeilge sa scoil chomh maith agus tagann na daltaí sin le chéile gach seachtain nó gach coicís faoi stiúr duine de na múinteoirí Gaeilge.

Bíonn caint agus comhrá acu, imríonn siad cártaí agus cluichí boird agus éisteann siad le ceol. Spraoi ag am lóin gan dabht!

Day 1- The flight to Reus

MFL

After landing in Reus, and once bags had been collected, we boarded the bus to Tarragona (an ancient Roman amphitheatre). We checked into our hotel (Hotel Calypso) in Salou, and cycled along the Costa Dorada from SaloutoCambrils.Thecyclewastiringandhottosaytheleast.Wewereallsweatingloadsafterit. Our rooms in the hotel were small but they had enough. They consisted of 2 beds, a couch that could be made intoabed,awardrobe,adeskandanold,barelyworkingtv.Itwasn’tmuch,butitwasenough. That evening we got to have some free time at the pool, and an early night. The next day was going to be exciting.

IN THIS ISSUE:

Day 2 – Port Aventura

We woke up and headed straight to breakfast. After that we went on the bus to Port Aventura. It was roasting in Port Aventura. Once we all checked in, we went on all sorts of rides. The experience was amazing to say the least. You could have gone from being terrified to excited in a matter of seconds. All of the rides were very good. Port Aventura has one of the tallest roller coasters in the world called the Shambhala. It’s an astagering 76m tall and can reach speeds of up to 134 km/h. We spent a couple hours in the massive theme park before going back home and resting for the next day to come.

Day 3 - Barcelona

First, we visited a sacred place, the Sagrada Familia. The architecture was stunning to see. It was super super tall. You could see it from miles away. We got a tour of the place, which included the history of it. As we went inside, we got blown away by the beauty of the cathedral. Everything in the Sagrada Familia means something, from the door to the statues.

After the cathedral, we got the bus to Park Güell. Park Güell was sensational. All of the mosaics were beautiful. The whole place was full of colors. Some of the things I saw there were incredible and nothing like I’d seen before. The view from the top of Park Güell was beautiful. You could see the whole of Barcelona. We hung around there for a bit and then got the bus back to the hotel. Unfortunately, that was our last day of fun in Spain. We got a good night's sleep and sadly had to depart back home to Ireland.

A WINTERS TALE

A Winter’s Tale

This year the school staged ‘A Winter’s Tale’ in our brand new GP Area. The show showcased the wealth of talent within our student body. Highlights from the performance included a rendition of ‘Titanium’ by the school choir, a stunning range of vocal soloists from each year group, piano solos and a 2nd year drama. We look forward to hosting next year's performance in our new sports hall, and inviting family and friends to join us.

String Lessons

String lessons take place every Friday in school in association with the Irish Chamber Orchestra in UL. Tamasine teaches 30 students a variety of string instruments, whether at novice level or an already budding musical talent.
