Gig Harbor and Tacoma, Washington, have long been sought-after destinations for homeowners and visitors alike. Nestled along the Puget Sound, these communities offer a blend of maritime charm, scenic waterfronts, and thriving local economies. Each summer, the real estate market in these areas experiences a surge in interest as visitors, captivated by the region’s coastal beauty, consider making it their permanent or seasonal home.
As of summer 2025, the real estate markets in Gig Harbor and Tacoma remain strong, though slightly different from the rapid growth seen in previous years. Median home prices have stabilized after years of steady increases, creating a more favorable environment for buyers.
Gig Harbor, known for its picturesque waterfront, historic downtown, and a strong sense of community, continues to attract retirees, families, and remote workers looking for a slower pace of life. Waterfront properties remain highly desirable, while prices remain elevated, inventory has
improved compared to recent years. Buyers looking for homes with private docks or water access are finding competitive opportunities in the market.
With its mix of historic neighborhoods and modern urban development, Tacoma offers a more diverse range of housing options. Areas like North Tacoma, Stadium District, and Proctor remain hot spots for buyers seeking character-filled homes near parks, dining, and cultural amenities. Meanwhile, neighborhoods like South Tacoma and Eastside are gaining traction due to more affordable pricing and increasing development projects.
Overall, vacation rentals and second homes remain key drivers of real estate demand, particularly in Gig Harbor. With its easy access to Seattle and a slowerpaced coastal lifestyle, the area continues to be a prime location for those looking to escape the city while staying connected to business opportunities.
Tourism plays a crucial role in shaping the real estate market in Gig Harbor and Tacoma. The summer months bring an influx of visitors, many of whom extend their stays through short-term rentals, boosting the local economy and increasing demand for seasonal housing.
Gig Harbor thrives on its maritime culture, attracting boaters, kayakers, and fishing enthusiasts. Visitors who come for events like the Gig Harbor Beer Festival or the Maritime Gig Festival often explore real estate options drawn to the town’s coastal charm and accessibility to Puget Sound. The steady stream of tourists fuels demand for vacation rentals, with properties near the waterfront commanding premium rental rates.
Tacoma’s tourist attractions like Point Defiance Park and the Museum of Glass, along with its growing arts and music scene have also contributed to growing real estate interest. The city’s revitalization efforts have made it an appealing destination for visitors considering relocation. Short-term rental platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo see high demand in summer, particularly in neighborhoods with easy access to Tacoma’s downtown and waterfront areas.
However, the rise of short-term rentals has also led to discussions about housing availability and affordability for local residents. Some neighborhoods have implemented regulations to balance the needs of homeowners and investors. Prospective buyers interested in vacation rentals should stay informed on evolving policies before making investment decisions.
For those considering real estate investments in Gig Harbor and Tacoma, understanding seasonal trends and strategic planning is key. Here are some insights:
We specialize in small spaces & big dreams. compact design, accessory dwelling units (ADUs & DADUs), small footprint, cottage houses, aging in place, on-grid-off-grid, new build & remodel
First consultation is complimentary.
• If you’re looking for a vacation rental, focus on high-tourism areas like downtown Gig Harbor or North Tacoma, where seasonal demand remains strong.
• For long-term investments, consider developing in neighborhoods like South Tacoma or Gig Harbor’s newer communities, where property values may have more room for appreciation.
• Properties with waterfront views or close proximity to recreational areas tend to appreciate in value and attract more interest from summer visitors.
• Investors in short-term rentals should analyze occupancy rates and rental income potential before purchasing.
• Some areas have implemented restrictions on short-term rentals to preserve community balance. Check local ordinances before investing in Airbnb or Vrbo properties.
• Summer is the busiest season for real estate transactions, with buyer competition. It’s also the best time to view properties at their peak condition.
• Buyers looking for deals may find better opportunities in early fall as the tourist season slows and sellers become more flexible.
• Working with realtors specializing in Gig Harbor and Tacoma can provide insights into market trends and hidden opportunities.
• Seeking advice from property management companies can help optimize rental income and navigate local regulations.
• Waterfront access, views of Mount Rainier, and proximity to dining and entertainment can significantly impact a property’s resale value.
• Modern amenities, energy-efficient features, and outdoor living spaces are increasingly popular among buyers.
Real estate and tourism are deeply connected in Gig Harbor and Tacoma, making summer a pivotal season for buyers, investors, and homeowners. As visitors explore the region’s natural beauty, many begin considering real estate opportunities, whether for vacation rentals, second homes, or permanent relocation. Understanding seasonal market trends and local dynamics is essential to making informed investment decisions.
For those looking to capitalize on the thriving real estate scene in the South Sound area, now is the time to explore opportunities, connect with local experts, and make strategic moves. As summer 2025 unfolds, Gig Harbor and Tacoma continue to offer a unique blend of adventure, relaxation, and investment potential—making them standout destinations in the Pacific Northwest.

located in the center of Bellevue, Olive Crest has been a champion in supporting children and families in crisis, committed to preventing child abuse through strengthening, equipping, and rebuilding lives. Olive Crest has been spreading its reach across Washington since 1999, with locations in Bellevue, Tacoma, Silverdale, Vancouver, and Spokane. Each site is a significant part of filling the child welfare service shortfalls, providing hope and security.
“Our vision is a strong family for every child,” shares Executive Director of the Pacific Northwest, Paul LaRose. In support of this vision, Olive Crest offers programs for over 3,000 children and families each year in the state of Washington. These
programs include the Child Welfare Prevention Program, Foster Care, and the Independent Living Skills Program for teens leaving foster care.
One story illustrates the transformational power of Olive Crest’s work. Riley had been in foster care since she was three and lived in poverty for years before she finally received a stable home. At 18, she enrolled in Olive Crest’s Independent Living Skills program, where she shared her fears of being left behind. Olive Crest was a constant support, and Riley reached the milestones she deserved: getting her high school diploma, first job, and a room of her own.
Ninety-nine percent of children in their care found safety and stability—surpassing the national average of seventy percent.
Riley’s journey didn’t end there. When her siblings’ adoptive family accepted her into their household when she was 19, she was able to rejoin her family after growing out of foster care. "After a life of maltreatment and abandonment, Riley’s dreams have now come true," LaRose shared.
Olive Crest is made possible by partnerships with businesses, volunteers, and churches. These partnering organizations fundraise, offer family-friendly programs, and provide mentorship and employment for young people. Their partnerships also bring financial support, host family-focused events, and create opportunities for youth mentorship and job placements. A dedicated volunteer spearheaded the launch of three Care Communities in Pierce County, providing ongoing support to foster families and organizing over 300 Christmas gifts for children in need. In 2025, this dedicated volunteer will launch two more Care Communities, expanding their reach even further.
In 2024 alone, Olive Crest supported 2,043 children and families in the Pacific Northwest. Ninety-nine percent of children in their care found safety and stability—surpassing the national average of seventy percent. By 2030, the organization aims to serve 1.2 million children and families across the Western United States by expanding mental health services, new resource centers, and housing for teens and young adults.
Olive Crest’s mission can be supported in various ways, whether through its mentor, volunteer programs, or Kids at Heart monthly giving program. For only $21 a month, donors can keep a child safe throughout the year. Locals can also get involved on event committees, sponsor donation drives, or become an Olive Crest family and host a safe haven for at-risk children.
To learn more, visit OliveCrest.org or call their Bellevue office at 425.462.1612. Together, we can change lives, one life at a time.
Fern Nichols
the gospel that reaches millions
by STEVE RUSSO
Publisher’s Note: This article offers an insider's and personal look at a global movement's humble start. As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." One mother's faith in Jesus casts a stone that rippled worldwide, proving Mother Teresa's words: "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."
Some movements are born on stages. Others begin on their knees. This one started with a whisper to God—and it never stopped echoing.
“God will take us to a place where we only have one option, and that’s to look up.”
—Fern Nichols
It didn’t begin with a ministry plan, donor base, or strategic blueprint.
It began with a mother’s prayers.
In 1984, at her kitchen table in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Fern Nichols felt an ache that many mothers know too well—an ache for her children’s future. Her two oldest sons, Tyrone and Troy, were heading into junior high school, and her heart was heavy with fear. She saw a spiritual battlefield ahead and knew she couldn’t shield them from it alone.
So she did what few dared to do in desperation—she looked up from her knees and prayed to God for insight, inspiration, and peace.
And then she picked up the phone.
“I called another mom,” Fern remembers. “I just said, ‘Will you pray with me for our children and their school?’ She said yes. That was all it took.”
Together, two moms began praying weekly—no coffee, no snacks, no small talk—just open Bibles, humble hearts, and the conviction that Jesus hears the prayers of mothers.
John 14:13-14 (ESV):
“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
They prayed for their children, teachers, principals, classmates, coaches, and especially the school bus driver.
“We’re in a battle,” Fern said during our conversation, her voice still strong and resolute at 79. “So we pray with purpose— just like Jesus taught.”
From that quiet beginning, the ripples began.
“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
-John 14:13-14 (ESV)
A former teacher and veteran of 15 years with Campus Crusade for Christ alongside her husband, Rle, Fern knew the Gospel's power. With four children—Tyrone, Troy, Travis, and Trisha—her mission turned personal.
A single phone call between two moms soon became a global prayer movement. With Bibles open, they stormed heaven together. And from that one act of faith, a global movement was born: Moms in Prayer International. That movement is now active in every U.S. state and over 150 countries, under the leadership of President Sally Burke.
When the Nichols family relocated to Poway, California, the following year, the prayers continued and began to spread. Fern invited more moms. The groups multiplied. The burden was universal. The solution remained simple: no plan, no fundraising, no goals, just purposeful prayer.
Moms in Prayer is one hour weekly: praising God, confessing quietly, thanking Jesus, and praying for kids and schools—a beacon of hope turning fears to faith.
The Movement That Grew on Its Knees
By 1986, Fern had introduced a clear, repeatable structure that continues to define today's movement: Praying the Four Steps of Prayer.
• Praising God for who He is
• Silent confession to cleanse hearts
• Thanksgiving for what He’s done
• Intercession—for children, teachers, staff, and schools
This isn't a social hour or a parenting support group. It’s spiritual warfare.
“There’s a reason we don’t have snacks,” Fern says. “This isn’t about small talk. It’s about going to war in prayer.”
That spiritual clarity, combined with a reproducible format and deeply biblical roots, fueled the movement’s expansion. Word spread through churches and Christian radio.
The breakthrough came when Fern was interviewed on Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson, introducing Moms in Prayer to a national audience.
Suddenly, letters and phone calls poured in. Mothers across the country and around the world asked, “How can we start a group?”
Every single inquiry was answered. Focus on the Family mailed out booklets after the broadcast, while Fern personally responded to every letter she received.
The Four Steps of Prayer
1. 2. 3. 4. Praising God for who He is Silent confession to cleanse hearts Thanksgiving for what He’s done
Intercession—for children, teachers, staff, schools, and communities
“We’re not there for fellowship. We’re there to bring our children before the throne of grace.”
- Fern Nichols
Without an office, staff, or budget, she wrote resources, developed leader guides, and coached women across state and national borders. Her educational background and years serving with Campus Crusade for Christ gave her tools, but her faith fueled her.
Initially called “Moms In Touch,” the organization later changed its name to “Moms in Prayer International.”
A major part of Moms in Prayer’s lasting impact comes from its intentional structure, modeled after how Jesus taught His disciples to pray. Every meeting follows four clear, God-centered steps—designed to focus the heart and elevate faith.
Moms learn to pray not merely about their anxieties but through the lens of who God is—His holiness, mercy, sovereignty, and love. This Christcentered approach anchors each prayer in truth, removes distractions, and strengthens purpose.
“We’re not there for fellowship,” Fern says. “We’re there to bring our children before the throne of grace.”
Over the years, Moms in Prayer faced resistance—skeptical school districts, financial strain, logistical obstacles—but Fern never thought of quitting.
“When things were hard,” she says, “God would remind me: I will take you to a place where your only option is to look up.”
And she did.
She clung to the promise of Matthew 19:26: “With God, all things are possible.”
And again and again, she saw God move—miraculous donations, divine connections, and moms finding each other in the most unexpected corners of the world.
“I just wanted my sons to know Jesus,” Fern says. “I never dreamed He would shake the world.”
Fern carried her cry worldwide, teaching moms to storm heaven. She recalls a Kenyan mother weeping, “Jesus heard me.” Fern’s books—Mom’s Little Book of Powerful Prayers and When Moms Pray Together: True Stories of God’s Power to Transform Your Child—share His answers. Her Bible study, Igniting a Passion to Pray, draws women to Him. “Moms want our kids in His love,” she writes.
Today, Moms in Prayer groups meet in more than 150 countries, and their resources are translated into over 60 languages. The mission continues to grow from Kenya to Korea, Poland to Peru.
At 79, Fern is still active in Moms in Prayer. She’s been married to her husband, Rle, for 58 years, and they have 10 grandchildren. Her life reflects the gentle humility and deep faith that started it all.
“I never said ‘me,’’ she says. “It’s always God. And the amazing women He called to walk this with me.”
If there’s one core message Fern wants every mom to know, it’s this: You don’t have to go at this alone.
Kindergarten or college, struggling or thriving— no matter the season your child is in, God calls you to stand in the gap. Moms in Prayer offers more than just a structure—it provides strength, support, and a circle of women who understand the power of prayer.
“I just wanted my sons to know Jesus,” Fern says. “I never dreamed He would shake the world.”
But He did—through one praying mother, another, and millions more.
Today, the movement’s mission is as focused as ever: Moms in Prayer International impacts children and schools worldwide for Christ by gathering mothers to pray.
Its vision is bold: that every school in the world would be covered in prayer.
The purpose is simple, but profound:
• To stand in the gap for our children through prayer
• To pray that our children receive Jesus and walk boldly in faith
• To pray for teachers, coaches, and staff
• To pray that schools are guided by biblical values and moral truth
• To offer support to moms carrying heavy burdens
And it still begins the way it did in 1984—with a humble mother looking up and asking someone to pray with her.
“Little did we realize that ordinary moms, releasing God’s power through prayer, were about to birth a worldwide prayer movement.”
—Fern Nichols
From a kitchen table in Canada to gatherings in every corner of the globe, Fern Nichols’ story reminds us that God often works through the available, not just the accomplished. She never sought a platform or a movement; she just wanted to protect her children.
And in that surrender, God wrote a bigger story.
Today, if you’re overwhelmed, unsure, or afraid for your child’s future, Fern’s journey reminds us: look up from your knees and ask God what He should have you do about it.
One hour a week. Four steps. Countless miracles.
“What God has done through this ministry,” Fern writes, “is living proof that He hears our prayers and responds.”

What to watch for— and how to stay safe
Scam Artists Are Evolving—Are You Prepared?
Scammers have always been crafty, but with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), their tactics have grown more convincing than ever. From fake legal proceedings to eerily realistic messages, fraudsters leverage cutting-edge tools to dupe even the most cautious individuals.
This isn’t to alarm you—it’s to equip you. Awareness is your best defense. Let’s break down what’s happening and how you can protect yourself.
Probates for Profit: A Case Study
A recent scheme in Washington State revealed just how elaborate scams can get. Fraudsters targeted estates of the deceased without heirs, manipulating probate laws to name themselves as administrators. They sold homes, cars, and assets—pocketing the profits without notifying rightful heirs.
The Attorney General’s office reported over 200 probate filings and nearly $28 million in stolen property. The scammers even lived rent-free in some estate homes, pretending to be legitimate representatives.
Schemes like this are hard to spot by design. And now, with AI in the mix, the deception is even harder to detect.
How AI Is Fueling Modern Scams
AI has given scammers new tools to make their cons look and sound legitimate:
• Impersonation: AI can mimic writing styles in emails or texts, making them appear from trusted contacts.
• Voice Cloning: Scammers can replicate someone’s voice with just a short sample—perfect for believable phone scams.
• Deepfakes: Hyper-realistic videos of lawyers, executives, or officials can manipulate victims into trust.
• Fake Ads & Websites: AI can quickly generate credible, professional-looking materials.
• Pause and Verify: Never act on suspicious emails or calls without double-checking. Call official numbers, not those provided in the message.
• Slow Down Big Transactions: Urgency is a red flag. Scammers use panic to prevent you from asking questions.
• Educate Your Circle: Talk to family—especially older adults—about common scams and encourage second opinions.
• Question “Too Good to Be True”: Be skeptical of offers that seem off, even if they’re well-crafted.
• Use Security Tools: Many institutions offer fraud alerts and scam-checking resources. Take advantage of them.
Just as scammers use AI, you can too—through tools that detect fraud, block threats, and verify legitimacy. And remember: when in doubt, “ask before you act.” Your trusted advisor, attorney, or real estate broker can help you think clearly before moving forward.
If you suspect a scam, report it to the FTC or local authorities. Stay alert, stay informed—and don’t get scammed.
Five Tips for a Thriving Outdoor Escape
1. Precision Mowing – Keep your lawn looking sharp with weekly trims, letting clippings decompose naturally for added nutrients.
2. Smart Watering – Water deeply in the early morning, using a timer to optimize efficiency and encourage strong root growth.
3. Mulch & Maintain – Apply mulch to lock in moisture and suppress weeds, keeping your landscape fresh and low maintenance.

Tucked along Harborview Drive in downtown Gig Harbor, Harbornest is more than a stylish home boutique—it’s a reflection of the heart behind it. Founded by Amy Flippo in early 2022, Harbornest was born from her passions for interior design, real estate, and, most of all, community.
A REALTOR®, interior designer, and mother of three, Amy fell in love with the “story of home”—the feeling that goes beyond the house itself and reflects the style and soul of the people within. As she staged listings for clients, she noticed a gap in the market for luxe but approachable home goods sourced locally. When the perfect location opened up, Amy seized the opportunity and brought her vision to life.
Harbornest quickly became a gathering place, hosting seasonal events, small business pop-ups, and workshops that brought people together. Vendors like Mollie Marigold, Salt & Stone, and Little Bird Child have found a welcoming platform in the shop, and Amy uses her space to champion creativity and connection.
Legal matters don’t have to be overwhelming. Stolz & Associates, P.S. offers trusted legal guidance with a personal touch. Whether you’re navigating estate planning, probate, real estate, or business law, their experienced attorneys are here to help you make confident decisions. With a long-standing reputation in the South Sound, they provide practical solutions tailored to your needs—because peace of mind starts with a solid legal foundation.

A deep commitment to giving back is at the core of Amy’s mission. “Giving back is woven into the heart of Harbornest. I believe in giving where you live—supporting the people and places that make our community feel like home,” she shares. “Organizations like the Multicultural Child & Family Hope Center, 321 Buddy, and B2S are just a few that hold a special place in my heart. Whether it’s lending a hand, sharing resources, or simply showing up, I love seeing how small acts of kindness create a big impact. Community is everything, and there’s nothing better than lifting each other up!”
Amy and Harbornest proudly sponsor local fundraisers, school auctions, and causes close to her heart, including the PTSD Foundation. Her support is hands-on and heartfelt.
We applaud her consistency through the years, watching her fill the local movie theater with the Grinch fundraiser for the Multicultural Center and seeing families fill Fondis. She is a community champion we should all support. Go check out local owner Amy Flippo at Harbornest.

“Excuse me, Miss Park Ranger… do you know when the mountain will be out?”
As I begin my fourth summer as a volunteer ranger with the National Park Service, that question still makes me smile. Visitors travel across the country and the world to catch a glimpse of Mt. Rainier. It’s a sweet reminder of how fortunate we are to have some of the best hiking trails in the nation right in our backyard. From the mossy, old-growth forests of the Olympic Peninsula to the wildflower-covered ridgelines of the North Cascades, our state is a hiker’s dream.
If you’re just beginning your hiking journey, Mt. Rainier is the perfect place to start. This glacier-capped volcano offers 360-degree views of dramatic landscapes and iconic peaks like the Tatoosh Range. Wildflowers, waterfalls, alpine lakes—this park has it all. Some of my favorite hikes include Skyline Trail to Panorama Point, Spray Park, Fremont Lookout, Burroughs Mountain, Crystal Lakes, Summerland, Tomie Peak Fire Lookout, Naches Peak Loop, and Comet Falls. Note: Timed-entry reservations are required from April 1 to October 31. If you crave adventure, head north to North Cascades National Park. You’ll find alpine lakes, meadows, and jaw-dropping vistas. Don’t miss Blue Lake, the Sahale Arm, and Heather–Maple Pass Loop.
On the east side, Snoqualmie Pass offers gems like Snow and Gem Lakes, Franklin Falls, Annette Lake, and Ingalls Lake, famous for fall
golden larches. In spring, wildflower hikes in the Columbia River Gorge, such as Dog Mountain and Columbia Hills State Park, are must-dos. Colchuck Lake, the gateway to the Enchantments, is another bucket-listworthy trek.
Olympic National Park offers everything from rainforest to coastline. Top picks include Obstruction Point, the Hoh Rainforest, Ruby Beach, Hole-in-the-Wall, Staircase Loop, Mount Storm King, Sol Duc Falls, and Mount Ellinor.
Getting started is simple: all you really need is a solid pair of boots, a backpack, and the ten essentials. I used to “forget” a few of those items to save weight—until a few trail mishaps taught me better. Now, I’m firmly in the “better safe than sorry” camp—and I also pack a block charger, Diet Coke, and Pringles.
When the mountain calls, check trail conditions on AllTrails or the Washington Trails Association (WTA) website. As the long summer months draw near, I hope you will feel the mountains calling and have a chance to embrace your connection with nature. As John Muir would say, “…and into the forest I go—to lose my mind and find my soul.” Happy hiking!

As the days get longer and the sun shines brighter, it’s the perfect time to refresh your home for summer. Start with lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton for your bedding and curtains to keep things airy and cool. Swap out darker decor for pops of bright colors—think ocean blues, sunny yellows, and coral pinks.
If you want a bigger impact, consider updating your outdoor space. Add fresh cushions to patio furniture, incorporate potted plants or string lights for a cozy feel, and create an inviting area for summer gatherings. Small touches, like switching out candles for citrus or coconut scents, can instantly bring a tropical summer vibe indoors.

For more than three decades, FUSION has been a pillar of support for families experiencing homelessness in Federal Way and Northeast Tacoma. Founded in 1993 by a group of dedicated women with a vision that no one should be without a home, the organization began with a single house. Today, FUSION owns and operates 26 transitional housing units and the Pete Andersen FUSION Family Center, a 90-bed emergency shelter, providing stability for more than 550 individuals annually.
“Our mission is to provide housing and support services to families experiencing homelessness in our community so they will have a safe, secure environment as they work toward self-sufficiency,” says Executive Director David Harrison.
Beyond offering shelter, FUSION equips families with the necessary resources to thrive. Families in their programs are paired with caseworkers who help them develop a path toward stability. Whether they need financial guidance, mental health services, childcare assistance, or job training, FUSION ensures they receive support. Children in the program also have access to tutoring, enrichment activities, and seasonal celebrations, allowing them to experience a sense of normalcy.
FUSION extends its impact through FUSION Décor Boutique and Poverty Bay Café & Bakery, two businesses that help fund the mission. The café also serves as the home base for TABLE (Transforming And Building Lives through Employment), a job training program designed to provide hands-on work experience for individuals seeking stable employment. The success of this initiative is evident in the story of one of their first graduates, who transitioned from

homelessness to securing a job in a grocery store deli, working his way up to manager.
“We are so proud of the grit and determination of our residents and are inspired every day by the drive they have to improve their situation for their families,” Harrison shared.
With increasing demand for their services, funding remains a critical challenge. “We consistently have a waiting list of dozens of families needing shelter,” Harrison says. To help bridge the gap, FUSION relies on donations, grants, and fundraising events, including its Annual Gala, the organization’s largest event.
This year’s Gala, “Waves of Change,” will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Dumas Bay Centre. It promises a night of fun, games, music, and auctions supporting FUSION’s mission. Last year, the event raised over half a million dollars, helping 92% of transitional housing families move into permanent homes—critical funding that helps FUSION continue its work.

Lace up your running shoes for the 2025 Galloping Gertie on Saturday, August 9, and experience one of the Pacific Northwest’s most scenic races! This popular event includes a half marathon, 10K, and 5K—each course crossing the iconic Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Known as “Galloping Gertie,” the bridge connects Tacoma and Gig Harbor, offering breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains.
Few races provide the opportunity to run from span to span on such a historic structure. All participants receive a custom finisher medal, a tech tee, and free downloadable race photos. Even better, proceeds from the event benefit local charities, making each step count.
The original Tacoma Narrows Bridge famously collapsed in 1940 due to aeroelastic flutter, making it one of the most studied engineering failures in history. The current race path crosses the modern eastbound bridge, which opened in 2007 and ensures a safe, exhilarating experience for all runners.
First-timers and seasoned racers alike will enjoy this unique course filled with history, community, and spectacular views. Join the fun and run the bridge that made history. For details and registration, visit GallopingGertie.com.

Preserving automotive heritage in the heart of Tacoma by
LeMay – America’s Car Museum (ACM) is a dynamic tribute to the automobile and its enduring impact on American culture. Located in Tacoma, the museum showcases more than 300 vehicles spanning over a century of innovation, design, and history. It’s more than a collection, it’s a living story of mobility and lifestyle that continues to evolve.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, ACM is overseen by a dedicated Board of Directors. Its mission is clear: “to preserve and interpret the history and technology of the automobile and its influence on American culture.” Through thoughtful curation and professional operations, the Museum ensures that the stories behind these machines are passed on to future generations. “The Museum will sustain its vital public service through viable, professional operations and complementary alliances,” they share.
At the heart of ACM lies the legacy of Harold and Nancy LeMay, Spanaway residents who amassed the world’s largest private automobile collection in the 1980s and 1990s—over 3,500 vehicles at its peak. “Harold never came across a car he didn’t love or appreciate,” says the team. After Harold’s passing in the early 2000s, Nancy, the LeMay family, the city of Tacoma, and the Board brought his vision to life. On June 2, 2012, the museum opened its doors, and 13 years later, it still houses part of the original LeMay collection.
Visitors can explore over 300 vehicles, from early 1900s Model Ts to mid-century American classics and sleek modern supercars like Lamborghinis and Ferraris. The current “Rare & Luxurious” exhibit is a showstopper, featuring elite models such as the 1930 Duesenberg Model J and a 2024 Ferrari SP3 Daytona.
Beyond static displays, ACM offers interactive experiences including professional racing simulators, a photo booth car, a slot car track, and a family center complete with a pinewood derby track, making it a dynamic education center for all ages.
Community engagement is a top priority. ACM hosts and attends events year-round, including the Cruise-In car shows and DriveIn Movies each summer. It partners with AAA for eco-initiatives like Batteries to Branches and supports health drives and local celebrations such as the Pride Festival, the Maritime Parade, and the Car Show.
Supporters can help sustain the museum’s mission through donations or memberships, all available on their website: AmericasCarMuseum.org.
Ranked among the top 10 automotive attractions in North America, LeMay – America’s Car Museum is not just a car museum; it’s a living archive, private event venue, and education center dedicated to preserving America’s automotive heritage.
