MOBILE CRANES
Klema expands fleet with Liebherr LTM 1110-5.1 mobile crane Klema Kranverleih GmbH based in Oberschleissheim has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1110-5.1 mobile crane. The new 110-ton model will expand the Bavarian company's fleet. The main factors behind the decision included the high performance and great variability of the LTM 1110-5.1 in terms of axle loads and transport weight. LTM 1110-5.1 closes the gap between 100 and 130 tons. The Liebherr 110-ton crane's great flexibility in action was the main reason behind the purchase decision. Klema and Liebherr have a strong, long term partnership Managing Director Henry Lewin explains: “We regard the new LTM 1110-5.1 as a sensible addition to our fleet, closing the gap between 100 and 130 tons. We decided to buy the Liebherr 110-ton crane because its design makes it flexible on public roads, where it can carry 13.4 tons of ballast."
Long, powerful boom and great mobility The concept behind the LTM 11105.1 is designed to ensure it delivers high performance with a long telescopic boom along with great mobility. It has such a lightweight design that it has a gross weight of just 48 tons with axle loads of less than 10 tons. Even in countries where mobile cranes with a 12ton axle load are permitted on the roads, crane operators have for some time been demanding cranes that can be driven with 10 tons per axle by simply removing the ballast. This version delivers major benefits for obtaining licences and route permits, increasing flexibility for job planning. Despite its lightweight construction, its 60-metre telescopic boom enables the LTM 1110-5.1 to exceed the performance of comparable mobile cranes on the market. First job with full ballast and double folding jib At its very first job, Klema’s new LTM 1110-5.1 had to show exactly what it was made of – the maximum ballast of 29 tons was required to replace filter systems at Zolling power plant, around 50 kilometres north of Munich, and
the crane had to be set up with its 19-metre double folding jib. Crane operator Thomas Feder is full of praise for his new machine: “It’s a great crane, fantastic handling, superb quality. The crane can be set up quickly and requires very little space. Bring on the next challenges”. A close partnership over many years Liebherr and Klema have a long term partnership. “Liebherr stands for quality and service, but the fact that we have had a good business relationship with the team there for many years makes our purchase decisions that much easier”, says Lewin. Klema Kranverleih GmbH first opened for business in 1965 when it bought a 6-ton mobile crane and a forklift truck. Over the decades, this small business has developed into a modern company with more than 80 vehicles today, making it a strong partner for handling heavy loads. The company has several outlets in southern Germany.

Delays on the building site can lead to costly consequences in no time, so it makes life much easier to know you can rely on machines that are renowned for their robustness. This is exactly why crane service provider Schmidbauer has consistently relied on Tadano as part of a large construction project. EMUGE-FRANKEN is a manufacturer of threading, clamping and milling technology. When construction work became necessary at the machine manufacturer’s headquarters in Lauf an der Pegnitz, EMUGE-FRANKEN turned to the construction company Klebl. Klebl is an expert operating throughout Germany, particularly in the market for industrial and logistics buildings. The company mostly relies on system construction with prefabricated parts. When it came to assembling the
prefabricated components in this project, the company needed a reliable partner to support the tower cranes already at the job site with the necessary lifts. This is what prompted Klebl to approach the Schmidbauer Group. Schmidbauer is a premium provid-er of crane rental, special transport and assembly services, from plant and mechanical engineer-ing to the construction, energy and chemical industries, with a total of over 500 employees. Schmidbauer relies on state-of-the-art technology and sophisticated engineering to ensure max-imum performance. It has a nationwide network of branches, including a site in Nuremberg, not far from Lauf. The Nuremberg branch, headed by Peter Kratz,
is responsible for lifting at the EMUGE-FRANKEN’s plant. Schmidbauer and Klebl work hand in hand: “We regularly work alongside Klebl Bau, and we have developed a strong relationship based on this partnership over the years. Klebl construction manager Jürgen Weismann knows exactly which cranes he needs. He told us what he was look-ing for and we were obviously only too happy to help," explains branch manager Peter Kratz. A total of four different Tadano ATF cranes are used on the construction site, ranging from 70 to 200 tons. In some cases, the machines were on site for a fortnight, carrying out a whole host of different lifting tasks. Thanks to Tadano's renowned flexibility and user-friendliness, this was a straightforward job for the machines and crane service providers alike. Unparalleled customer service “We are very happy to rely on Tadano, as we know we can always count on their machines. This is a crucial factor for us, particularly on large projects like this. Every minute a crane is out of action not only costs money, it also causes real frustration. In the worst-case scenario, delays like this could set back the entire construction process and mean we cannot meet our deadlines,” explains Peter Kratz. This is why he appreciates the ATF cranes from Tadano so much, on ac-count of their robustness. And if ever they need to go in for a service, Kratz is keen to praise the rapid response time of the Tadano service team: “The customer and spare parts service is light-ning fast. If we need a spare part, we know we can pick it up from the Tadano factory in Lauf an der Pegnitz within 30 minutes. And if we can’t repair it ourselves, a mechanic is out on site with us in minutes. It’s just exceptional customer service that I couldn’t go without. After all, I need my machines purring and running every day. Tadano takes care of that perfectly.”
