1. Your child should always wear an appropriate helmet when riding a bike, scooter, skateboard, or other similar equipment. Helmets help to prevent head injuries.

2. Your child should wear kneepads and elbowpads to

minimize bruises and broken bones as much as possible.

3. When swimming, ensure your child is being appropriately supervised at all times. Swimming lessons are highly recommended and placing a fence around the pool area helps minimize the chances of small children accidently falling into the pool.

4. Ensure your child is wearing age-appropriate sunscreen

and bug spray containing DEET.

While it’s true that a herniated disc is a very serious and painful condition, our procedure has been able to help many people find relief and avoid back surgery. Fireworks: The big fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m. and will be shot from the First United Methodist Church parking lot. Arrive early to get a good view and a seat for the fireworks. The streets around the square will be closed to vehicle traffic, so if you can’t find a patch of grass, camp out on the sidewalks and the streets.

ften parents get frustrated with children because they think their child is not listening or they are being lazy. Most children really want

to please their parents and most children really want to do well."

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it is difficult to diagnose ADHD in children younger than 4 years old. This is because younger children change very rapidly. It is also more difficult to diagnose ADHD once a child becomes a teenager.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition of the brain that makes it difficult for children to control their behavior. It affects 4 to 12 percent of schoolage children and is diagnosed in about three times more boys than girls.

ADHD includes three groups of behavior symptoms:

1. Inattention

• Frequently acts and speaks without thinking • May run into the street without looking for traffic first • Frequently has trouble taking turns

• Daydreams, often has a hard time paying attention

• Cannot wait for things

• Often does not seem to listen

• Often calls out answers before the question is complete

• Is easily distracted

• Frequently interrupts others

• Often does not seem to care about details; makes careless mistakes • Frequently does not follow through on instructions or finish tasks • Is disorganized • Frequently loses a lot of important things • Often forgets things • Frequently avoids doing things that require ongoing mental effort

Q: Do we seriously recommend the first dental visit at age one?

A: Absolutely!

Every single week I meet a 2-3 year old with tooth decay and it breaks my heart every time.

Our options are limited at this point and it’s hard on everyone involved. Often times, these preschoolers live in households with parents who genuinely care about a healthy lifestyle.

However, dental issues tend to go under the radar when we are busy with life. All of these families wished they knew about this recommendation and made an appointment earlier. Some were even misguided by trusted friends in medicine and dentistry.

A visit with a pediatric dentist at age one will also establish a dental home base. It’s nice to have a go-to place when there are questions about your children’s oral care. Pacifiers and finger habits are popular conversations for our families with toddlers. We can help guide you in breaking these habits and keep a happy home in the process :-) Also, our precious toddlers will fall and hurt themselves. We can often save you a long, expensive visit to the emergency room.
