The Art of Living Well: Immersive by design. Expressed daily.

Dear Reader,

I hope this letter finds you inspired and ready to embrace the beauty of self-expression.

Style is such an extraordinary part of life—it’s far more than the clothes we wear or the accessories we choose. It’s how we carry ourselves through both triumph and tension, how we lead with integrity, how we take care of our health— mental, physical, and emotional.

Style shows up in the stillness of early mornings and the boldness of a well-cut suit. It’s in the sparkle of a jeweler’s creation, the rise and fall of a symphony, the way a thoughtful financial plan brings peace of mind, and the strength found in a solid workout or a quiet walk. True style honors the whole self—from the inside out.

Mental wellness is part of this rhythm. It’s the foundation that allows us to live, lead, and love with clarity. As we layer on textures of experience, responsibility, and ambition, nurturing our inner world becomes not just an act of self-care—but one of courage and strength. And what’s more stylish than that?

For me, style is also deeply relational. The people in this community feed my spirit. Their stories, their resilience, and their creative spark infuse everything we do. This platform is the outpouring of that inspired creativity—an ever-evolving reflection of the beauty, depth, and individuality that lives here.

Here in the Ozarks, we are surrounded by people and places that reflect this integrated approach to life. From entrepreneurial vision to creative expression, our community reminds us that style is not a surface—it’s a signal of what we value, how we move forward, and what we choose to embody.

We’re honored to showcase the craftsmanship of Golden Hour Jewelers, where every piece tells a story of timeless expression. And we offer our heartfelt congratulations to State Bank of Southwest Missouri, celebrating 40 years of trusted service and meaningful impact in our community.

This month, as you turn these pages, may you be reminded that the most compelling style isn’t worn—it’s lived. Immersive by design, expressed daily, and entirely your own. Whether you’re discovering new trends, redefining wellness, or simply living with greater intention, let your style reflect the whole of who you are.

Here’s to living beautifully—and leading with style.

Happy September!

CELEBRATING THE Golden Moments

Kevin and Natalie Ballard of Golden Hour Jewelers create jewelry that tells your story

ARTICLE BY PATTI ZIELINSKI | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LEIGH LOVE

To Kevin and Natalie Ballard, owning jewelry is an experience: It celebrates love, commemorates milestones, is a living history of a family’s legacy. When you look at a beloved piece of jewelry, it recalls the person who gave it to you or the feeling you had when you purchased it.

When the Ballards were conceptualizing Golden Hour Jewelers, which opened this past June, emphasizing this experience was foremost in their minds. And it shows: When you enter the store, you feel at home. The name echoes this sentiment. “When people buy jewelry, they are celebrating a golden hour in their lives: an engagement, anniversary, birth of a child, an achievement,” Natalie explains.

The Ballards have over two decades of industry experience in the United States and internationally, primarily in luxury retail. Both are Graduate Gemologists certified by the Gemological Institute of America. Kevin, a second-generation jeweler, holds a Level IV training with luxury watch brand Patek Philippe and was hand selected to go to Geneva, Switzerland. He has level III training with Vacheron Constantin. He got his start in Springfield in 1996, when he joined his father, Dennis Ballard, an executive at Justice Jewelers, as the gemologist and appraiser. “I was there during what was considered the heyday of Justice Jewelers. Then, I went on to blaze my own trail,” he says. That trail included working for some of the best luxury jewelry retailers in the United States and Caribbean.

Natalie, who started working at a local jewelry store when she was 16, furthered her studies in London, Antwerp and New York, where she gained a deep understanding of fine jewelry and gemstones. “I worked in the Brussels office of Boghossian, the Swiss jeweler known for exceptionally rare and high-end jewelry. The contact I had with many one-of-a-kind pieces is the basis for my design inspiration.”

The couple employs their experience and curated eye in their design of pieces such as custom engagement rings and wedding sets that blend artistry, elegance, clean lines and understated luxury. Their connections in the global luxury jewelry industry afford them the ability to procure rare and exclusive items for their customers.

“For example, we are the exclusive carrier of Crisscut diamonds in Southwest Missouri and the first retail store in the United States that carries Bobbies Paris designer handbags,” says Natalie.

“We work closely with our designers to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship because we do not compromise on quality,” says Kevin. “We listen to our clients to learn about their wants, needs and desires and then facilitate that through our connections.”

The Ballards prioritize education for all customers, whether they are young, first-time buyers on a budget or those who are more affluent and purchase jewelry regularly. They encourage customers to make appointments to ensure individualized attention. “When people are investing their money, they also appreciate the privacy of a private consultation,” Natalie notes.

The store was designed to facilitate this personalized experience. Jewelry parties, like the popular Sip and Sparkle, turn jewelry buying into special occasions in which a small group of brides-to-be come to the showroom in the evening to sip Champagne and nibble on canapés as they get their fingers sized, try on rings, ask questions and discuss what they desire in terms of style and price.

“In any experience, people will remember how you made them feel. For us, it’s about creating a beautiful, immersive experience people will remember for a lifetime.”
— Natalie Ballard

This sense of community is one of the many reasons the Ballards became enamored with Springfield—and relocated here in January from their home in France. “We came here to stay with family for four months while we were doing renovations on our 400-year-old house in France. As we immersed ourselves in the community, we fell in love with the culture, the diversity, the arts, the natural beauty, the people. So, when we decided to open a jewelry store, we knew we wanted to open it in Springfield,” Kevin says.

The Ballards understand the importance of being in the moment and savoring experiences in their own lives as well. In their off hours, they enjoy exploring local parks or take fun excursions to places like the Butterfly Palace with their children Tristan, 2, and Juliette, 7. “We follow the LoveSpringfield Instagram account and when we see a great park, we’re like: Let’s do this!” Natalie says. “We love nature—biking, walking, taking the kids wading in creeks, exploring parks, gardening and discovering new restaurants.”

This sense of being in the moment, of sharing experiences, of educating people—whether it’s their kids or their clients—is what drives the couple. “In any experience, people will remember how you made them feel,” Natalie says. “For us, it’s about creating a beautiful, immersive experience for people that they will remember for a lifetime.”

LIVING STYLE in

THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND HOME

INthis unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression.

As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors.

Although we tend to consider cost-per-wear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space.

The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives.

In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory.

Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed with the

same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes.

The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.
